The club's owners have written an open address to Coventry City fans...

I’d like to start by apologising to each and every CCFC fan. None of you deserve the dismal result of relegation.

This season has been one of extremes - the unbeaten run in the Checkatrade Trophy culminating in a tremendous day at Wembley; the Academy continuing its phenomenal success and being crowned champions of the PDL. These two extraordinary events paradoxically occurring in the same season the first-team are relegated defies belief.

I was overcome with emotion when the club made the Checkatrade Final, and I can only try and appreciate how it feels to have the club you love and have supported for so long be relegated to the fourth tier.

There have been numerous mistakes made this season. Firstly, player recruitment in the summer was not good enough; the appointment of Russell Slade who, albeit a good man and successful League One manager, was not a good fit for the club given its current predicament and focus on youth players.

This was something we tried swiftly to address. We have brought Mark Robins back to the club because we believe he is someone who can successfully rebuild CCFC. I am sure you all see some of those improvements in the short time he has been here. This summer will be one of change and reform as the club has already stated.

Our plan and aim has to be promotion next season; a return to League One and then upwards from there. I understand it is a time of great uncertainty as a CCFC fan, and this is not a position I like any more than you. But we are working hard behind the scenes to secure facilities that will allow the club to retain and develop its treasured Academy, and we hope to be in a position to provide a further update by the summer.

We all understand the economic and emotional importance of having a stadium the club can call its home. We are working to achieve this. In an increasingly competitive football climate, it is imperative that we can grow the club to put as much talent on the pitch as possible. We want to give Mark all the support he needs to get out of League Two, with immediate effect.

Lastly, we need to ensure that the club has a CEO with whom the fans can communicate, liaise and bemoan to, when necessary; a leader who can engage with the Sky Blue community at large. We are in the process of recruiting this individual.

As owners, we must take responsibility for the club’s position. Looking back on this season, I wish we could restart. However, as a great man once said: “We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.”

Not signed. New CEO? Is Fisher going to get the boot then?

Fisher's got the bullet, I can hear some people fainting already as I had seen some guarantee that they'd get a season ticket if Fisher went....

'The club's owners' doesn't match up with 'I was overcome' either. Who writes this stuff?

Yeah, it is odd to have a letter that isn't signed off by anybody, reminds me of Hale & Pace 'The Management'

There'd be a few sleepless nights if he did go. They'd all be thinking up other reasons not to go.

Yeah, why not sign it? Nothing is ever straightforward. Interesting this comes out on the day of takeover and "further negotiation" shenanigans.

Isn't the statement saying they'll appoint a CEO?

All very nice, I suppose, but not what we'd hoped a statement from them would say today.

Calling Slade a good man is the football equivalent of describing a girl to your friends as having a great personality. Cold stuff, nameless author.

The problem is, we don't trust anything they say so in that context, no matter how genuine this might be , it means very little. In fact the "I was overcome with emotion" crap just pisses me off....and they're anonymous.

Very muddled. Parts of it read like a goodbye, parts of it read like a hello and parts of it read like something copy and pasted from something we've read before.

So the club are quoting Martin Luther King Jr!

I would put this from MLK quote back to SISU,
"Everything that we see is a shadow cast by that which we cannot see"

It reads as a good apology for the failings of this season and an attempt to address the many concerns fans have.

It's just frustrating that they do this after it's been pointed out to them that nobody has bothered to apologise to the fans (who are their customers) for this season.

It's a step in the right direction to engage the fans but nothing is ever proactive from Fisher. I hope it might signify him leaving but it's more likely that we'll get another Anderson/ Waggot figure that will be communicating with fans as Tim doesn't like explaining himself to us for his consistent failure.

My guess is that it means that advance season ticket sales have been a lot worse than had been forecast.

Actually this is a significant development
They have to justify refusing the bids we now know they have received recently
And they have to convince Mark Robins to stay on to lead the planned recovery
As often happens with a failing organisation no one has taken the responsibility to put their name to the statement

SISU are in a similar position to a company like Akzo Nobel who are currently trying to stave off a hostile takeover which some of their own shareholders want to happen
It could be that some of the investors in the SISU fund that owns CCFC are pushing to get out with the least bad deal possible from their viewpoint
To resist this SISU would have to come up with a viable alternative to the ridiculous penny pinching in recruitment this season which led directly to relegation
We can all remember Fisher boasting about the change in the bonus system for players which led to a better financial performance in the last Financial Year
It also led to all our best senior players including Fleck & Vincelot looking for better deals elsewhere in the same division
