An octopus named Paul has predicted that Spain will beat Germany in tomorrow's World Cup semi-final in Durban.

The octopus, which is kept in the Sea Life Aquarium in the German city of Oberhausen, chose a mussel from a jar bearing the flag of Spain, rather than one with a German flag, BBC News reports.

The supposedly psychic octopus has correctly 'predicted' the winner of all Germany's games in this fashion during the tournament in South Africa.

Its correct results included the team's unfancied group game defeat to Serbia and quarter-final underdog victory against Argentina.

Paul's owners claim that he correctly predicted almost 70% of the national team's games during the European Championships in 2008. However, he wrongly forecast that Germany would beat Spain in that tournament's final.
