Reason Behind Saturdays Ticket Farce (1 Viewer)

Just seen this on another Forum, apparently the council doesn't trust GTFC Stewards capabilities in controlling large crowds!!

Addendum to the Safety Certificate issued by North East Lincolnshire Council to Grimsby Town Football Club.

The following temporary condition is being applied by the Council in respect of the football match scheduled to take place at Blundell Park on Saturday 12th August 2017 between Grimsby Town FC and Coventry City FC.
“The Council supports the fixture taking place under the stewardship of the Club subject to the following condition:
As a condition of the safety certificate the capacity for this fixture be reduced through no further sales of tickets to away fans (Coventry) with immediate effect and a 20% reduction in capacity for home fans.”

Local government realty is in a mess in this country. Can't keep the streets clean but spend money poking their noses in everywhere else. If I were Grimsby Town I'd be asking for a rebate on the lost income.

First game at the Ricoh? Capacity limited due to council not issuing safety certificate. They were the ones who were in charge of the construction as well.

Can't blame their council, some of their fans kicked off in the Smugglers pub on the seafront and had an enforced police escort to the ground, bunch of pikeys...

Well yes, the police would have know about the tendency of such types to cause a bit of trouble. Two riot vans rocked up at the Smugglers, that won't have been a surprise to the police.

Maybe they thought that too many Cov fans would lead to uncontrollable crowds. They already had to bring vans down from Durham to help maintain order, there was a lot of police presence in the town centre after the game too.

I thought tickets were still on sale on the day? When I got there they had only the one turnstile open. That was for tickets but also had an "Away fans £20 " notice on it too. I thought people were able to pay on the gate despite them saying that tickets were withdrawn?

I think they were, but the fact they said they wouldn't be a lot of people who intended going from travelling - the whole thing seems like a bit of a farce.

Strange one, was on holiday up that way and 5 of us were going. We took our chances in the end and we're able to pay on the gate otherwise it was home stand. When I asked the steward he said that in the last hour police have said POTG is now an ok option. Fair play to the steward, he asked me if I wanted a free ticket so I snatched his hand off. The only ball ache was as my 8 year old nephew decided last minute rather than get dragged around shops in Bridlington he wanted to come too. Wasn't allowed to POTG for him and had to go ticket office to buy concession ticket. Surely if you can see a child they could just accept a fiver over the turnstiles instead of 20 quid.

Nothing unusual there. I suppose it could be to stop the person on the turnstile charging adult prices but putting it through as a child and pocketing the difference.
