Shadowy Coventry sports bodies, a City of Rugby & squeeze on CCFC (1 Viewer)

We should be asking all sorts of questions like what is the difference from moving the sky blues 35 miles to Northampton
and the insects 84 miles to Coventry plus they are owned by a hedge fund just like sisu I just don't understand it...

Unacceptable. If the RFU want to fund additional promotion of Rugby that’s OK, if the FA want to fund additional promotion of Football that's OK.
CCC money should be dealt out evenly in proportion to a sports popularity and participation levels.
Really? How much money has CCC put into 'city of Rugby' and what is your source? Link please.

I don't know, indeed what is CCC budget for each sport?

You tell me why CCC will not provide a detailed breakdown in answer to this FOI someone made requesting this information a few months back.
http://www.coventry.gov.uk/downloads/file/20290/req00738

And why is the information about pitches no longer available on the link provided in the answer?

Didn't read the article as I had a late day at work today but has read something about it being the book. Thought it was already complete!

Surely it'll just be all his articles, slightly reworded?

Thanks for this Captain.
The bald figures don't really say a lot...but the amounts look fairly small and reducing, not too surprisingly.
A breakdown would help to understand it, of course.
As it I can't see a figure earmarked for or invested directly in rugby.
I know what you, mean about the pitch asset listing, I've hit this dead link myself.
It used to be there.

E-mail sent to Kevin Maton earlier - made me feel better

Hi Kevin, following the latest Coventry Observer article how do you feel as a supposed Coventry City FC fan, when you are told that Coventry is to be a city of rugby. In 1987 250,000 citizens of Coventry celebrated the FA cup win, had WASPS won the Rugby Premiership title this year I doubt there would have been any significant celebration in the city. Rugby has never been a significant spectator sport in Coventry. You as part of the council may have helped to import the WASPs franchise to Coventry and I hope that despite the council’s active promotion of WASPS and all things rugby, that the council isn’t deliberately squeezing out the football club to achieve the city of rugby aims.

Sent to my local councillor earlier

Hi John I hope that you are well, as my local councillor I feel I need to raise an issue that I am finding unfair. I am a devoted Coventry City FC fan but also played rugby at school and passively follow the sport. The latest Coventry Observer article regarding – “Coventry – City of Rugby” & the Coventry Sports Network, who seem to be in collaboration with Coventry City Council promoting rugby. Whilst I have no objection to external bodies promoting their own ventures I am concerned that a minority sport should be given such preference by the council and with decisions being taken by an unelected quango, with limited transparency.

I hope you are able to challenge the concept of a “city of rugby” and that it should not be promoted by a local authority who already have other existing sports clubs that are not rugby.

Current status:
Contains five adult football pitches and one 3G AGP of
standard quality having being built in 2004. It is a key site for
delivery of disability football.
Also contains four netball courts of poor quality which have
declined over the last three years.

Recommendations:
Retain as a priority site. Ensure sinking fund is in
place for the future replacement of the AGP carpet.
Seek funding opportunities to improve the quality of
the netball courts in order to ensure continued
future use of the site for competitive netball.

So are we now thinking this is all happening with the hope of a change of ownership.

Or

Is it just pure and simple we can't work with SISU so let's move on without them regardless of what happens to CCFC?

Or

They saw an opportunity to take over our stadium on the cheap. Now they see an opportunity to take over our academies home where the uneducated will blame SISU leaving them in the clear.

I am talking about the suggestion of the collusion by all the other parties
Wasps are been smart I don't think there is anybody who can't see what they are doing.
And sorry Astute the door was kicked open by SISU to allow Wasps to do it.
So are the others supposed to be colluding in this as they hope it will force a new ownership.
Or have they just decided they can't work with SISU?

Don't you read much on here? Many can't see what Wasps are up to. And others are trying to divert away from it.

Have you ever seen me say any different to SISU giving the chance for Wasps to get the arena? I said that it could well happen as soon as the news broke about us going to Northampton.

So they all just individually decided at the same time? They all happen to be working together on things in different areas too.

I think it is slightly more than a co-incidence.

Whereas other self proclaimed smarter posters talked somewhat about white elephants and declared there was no other game in town.

That is the problem. Sometimes you can see more with your ears and a mind of your own than your eyes. Yes SISU were to blame then. But you can't blame them for everything since. If that was the case SISU wouldn't be to blame for anything as it would all be the fault of Richardson.

Maybe those wanting to blame SISU for everything can see that they might as well wait until those that can see what has been going on are all busy ;)

Truely believe that this is very much based on personality clashes, well educated and indepedently wealthy people at Higgs, socialist (!!) councillors at CCC, well educated senior employees at CCC v hedge fund mentality of SISU, perception is everything, SISU's battering people in court, looking to make a fast buck etc.. its probably no different to WASPS owner but its the way SISU have acted it clearly upset the other parties. whether SISU have been wronged or not, it looks like the other parties are unwilling to deal with them.

Yep, a post at SBT where the some comments aren't yet again being regurgitated is surprising.

whilst I am all for making things transparent all these links and such were hardly shadowy - you just had to look its all on public record, the majority is filed at Companies House and can be accessed by anyone for free, https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/

Bottom line is we still need a solution and from what I can see we are moving further away from any hope of that daily - battering people in the papers from either side does not help
(a) save the academy
(b) move our club forward

Didn't say that I asked you why they are all supposedly working together?
Are we saying its to get SISU out or is it simply they feel they can no longer work with them and are moving forward without them?

Agree but I am now asking why are we suggesting they are now all colluding. For what aim?
