How many years do we have to watch this same aimless, floated ball into the box!!!!? We are in the third season of it!

I actually thought he didn't play too badly but why does he still take set pieces.

That's a fair post jungle. What I would say is that Shipley was absolutely everywhere today - he balances our midfield.
On the set pieces, I do remember in one of his very first games he came off the bench to score an absolute worldie from a free kick (I think Luton or MK away - not sure). Would certainly like to see Shippers/Walsh/O'Hare back on the scoresheet sometime soon to take the pressure off Godden/Hiwula who look as if they are going through a confidence crisis.

So we have a runner a stopper and a bloke who the game passes by when he plays no wonder we aren’t scoring, whilst everyone is kicking the forwards we don’t get many from around the rest our full backs push up holding a midfielder back but they never score in the oppositions goal

I don't mind Shipley, the only thing i would day is he doesn't last 90 minutes, and if starting should be changed after 70 minutes. Our delivery is poor in general.

Possibly the worst sentence ever written on Sky Blues Talk - and that's quite an accolade. :emoji_smiley:

What would this help us with? Even less attacking creativity and 2 midfielders sat on the halfway line instead of 1? Again the book stops with the front 3 today not with the midfield, we completely controlled the game (what the midfield is there for).

Which book is that ? People are always looking for escape goats.

Interesting analysis then, im not sure you understand that much other than they both play in the middle of the green field somewhere...
I’m allowed my opinion, and that is that Shipley is not good enough to be a regular starter at a club with ambitions of promotion.
The same with the supporters who sing and love Bakayoko and who think Biamou will score lots of goals at this level.
Sometimes you have to be honest, some people like, others don’t.
I like the attitude of those listed above and want none to fail, but cannot let emotion rule judgement, however unpopular.

Difficult when walking the dog to do it, Shipley just runs around, Walsh and Kelly break up play and do little more and infrequently move forwards or pass forwards, Westbrooke is a nothing footballer who doesn’t offer anything going forwards or back.

Makes you wonder how we managed to control midfield for most of today's game with that bunch.

Thought Shipley played ok today put yo killer passes in but both chances squandered. His deliveries weren’t brilliant but then again no one really attacks the balls he puts in and a lot just get cleared or bounce out.

Got it Terry. I seriously see your points but in my view Kelly and Walsh do far more than simply break up play. Westbrooke also set up a fantastic chance for Godden today - that was missed. I see our midfield as a key strength this season and technically above anything we've had in years. As evidenced by our passing game and possession. And strength in depth. The problem right now is really with the front 3 not finding the net. To your point though it may be that we haven't played our ideal midfield 3 as yet: Kelly/O'Hare/Walsh?

Allen has to be in the middle three I would hope.

I actually agree if Allen is as good as everyone thinks he is. We've never had this kind of depth in midfield and there is an argument for many different combinations in our midfield 3. I rate Walsh very highly but looking forward to seeing what Allen can do.

who is today, Shipley, Jordi, Godden ?

Well Shipley has his own hate thread as usual... the other two missed a whole bunch of chances.

Don’t personally get the attack on Shipley today, Walsh’s set pieces were just as bad. Shipley has probably played the best he has for us this season and deserves more credit.

Shipley played some great football and great through balls today. I thought him, Westbrooke, Walsh and O'Hare all did pretty good.

But our set piece corners and free kicks are poor. The ball just doesnt come in at pace into the right areas. Far too easy and predictable for the keeper and defenders.

It feels like it’s been that for years, sort of expect the first man not to be beaten in my opinion, set pieces are not utilised to the maximum by us IMO

Shipley was ok to day and has improved massively but the set pieces all over and last season still haven’t been addressed. Just like the missed chances. This is are Achilles heal and is holding the side from pushing on.

Soon as we get a set piece I’m always saying to myself we won’t score abysmal from corners & free kicks

I would usually agree with you Samo.

Always a need for a boo boy for some on here - this season alone the usual suspects have targeted Baya (on the bench), Max (hardly played), Hiwula and best of all Burge (not even at the club). So fortunately it looks as if it's getting harder and harder to find a real boo boy this season.

What I would say as well is that this thread on Shippers is far more balanced than most of the threads ("he's shit" etc.) - jungle was constructive and balanced from the opening post and it's generally been positive about Shipley.

Are we s

Are we serious about this? It was his pass that set up several chances, could easily have had 3 assists if not more. Shipley was far from the problem today.
You could be right but the OP is about his inability to miss the first man when putting balls into the box. My partner is not an avid watcher if the game and when we get corners she comments on no there going to do a stupid short one or oh no Shippley is taking it again.

Regardless of the taker debate. We score next to zero from set pieces and the manager despite acknowledging the situation has seemingly done nothing to address it.

This is what drives me insane. Robins has spoken at fans forums the last two summers about acknowledging we need to improve massively at set pieces... Then continues to do exactly the same. One of the main reasons I look forward to Allen coming back.
Last week at Rotherham they had a new routine that they tried a few times. This involved two players, Walsh(?) and certainly O’Hare who would both be stationed on the corner of the penalty box. The kick was taken short to the first player and quickly passed on to the second. It looked like it could produce a chance. Having done it a couple of times there was the usual ‘get it in, get it in’ from some of the crowd.

I was one of Shipleys biggest critics but I will always give credit where its due and it is due for Shipley, some of the killer balls he has played through have been fantastic, he seems to have cut a lot of his dreadful passes out by either confidence or better concentration. The thing that lets Shipley down is his absolutely dreadful corners and free kicks, as someone said on here, Robins wants to try and get more from our set pieces but changes fuck all in the delivery stage, its safe to say that if Shipley was a midwife there wouldn't be many safe deliveries !!
