You think so? I'm not with you unfortunately.

Notts County have recruited well so far and retained John Stead who scored a few goals last year and will fancy a promotion push under Kevin Nolan
Grimsby your right did struggle mainly since the loss of Omar Boogle who'd scored 19 goals by January and are under a rebuild but another who will be aiming to hope for a playoff spot
Newport are a club high in confidence with new manager Micheal Flynn who put a amazing run in to end the season with survival, they will hope to build on that to be a club not fighting for survival.
Yeovil and Newport likely will struggle again but they wont be easy teams to break down and offer us the points for free.

I'll come back to you on the rebuilding sides (Newport/Grimsby), but Jon Stead is an atrocious footballer. Him and Ameobi up top, no pace.

He may not be the best but he did manage to get a good return in a average side last year and has a strike rate of 1 goal in just over 3 games so he's a goat marksman in this league.

The issue with this league is the consistency, teams are shit some weeks then turn over the leaders... so hit and miss

also top 8 might not mean 8th.

The top budget would also be in the top 8

Exactly, but then plenty of teams won't finish in the place their budget is.

Some will be above, some will be below. All depends how well it's spent and then the manager etc.

The teams should submit their budget and have the Football League draw up the table that way, like a secret auction instead of messing round with all that needless football.

Good idea. At least then if they placed us in the playoffs we could be saved from them by having SISU tell them that they got the budget numbers wrong and put us near the bottom.

Yes we have a top eight budget so we should finish 8th ?

How do we know it will be 8th? Isnt that Fisher or whoever playing with words along the lines of the turnover last season would have been 8th in L2 last season perhaps? When this claim was first made he/they could have had no idea of the other clubs budgets 2017-18 surely, I doubt the budgets would have been submitted early by most clubs

The EFL rules imply all teams will have only recently worked it out EFL Official Website - Appendix 5 - Financial Fair Play Regulations

3 SCMP Submissions
3.1 By the third Friday in June each year, each Club must submit its Pre-Season SCMP Submission for the immediately following Reporting Period. The Pre-Season SCMP Submission will be in the form of an Excel workbook setting out the information required therein (and including the requirements set out in Note 5 below) and will be in such format as The League may prescribe from time to time. For the current Season this requires submission of the following Worksheets:
3.1.1 Assumptions
3.1.2 Key Indicators;
3.1.3 Relevant Turnover;
3.1.4 Turnover Reconciliation;
3.1.5 Player Related Expenditure; and
3.1.6 Player Salary Costs.

Guidance
By 17th June 2016 each Club must submit its Pre-Season SCMP Submission for the financial year ending May, June or July 2017 (exactly which date will be determined in accordance with Note 2).
3.2 For the avoidance of doubt, the Pre-Season SCMP Submission must be supplied notwithstanding the fact that during the preceding Season the Club was either a League 1 Club relegated into League 2 or a National League Premier Division Club which was then promoted into League 2.

Due date this year was 16th June 2017 ( Friday last week)

Just playing statistics.
If fisher says top 8 budget the plan is therefore to finance to finish 8th.
Anything better is overachieving.

As usual TF says things with an element of truth to try to keep his immediate audience happy. Him saying it is no evidence of a top 8 budget and therefore an aim of top 8 finish at all, because he cannot know yet what the other club budgets are. We could be overachieving at 10th or underachieving at 6th for all he knows, until the EFL release details.

Its just a throw away line that has been latched on to as some kind of proof, when in fact there is no real substance to it one way or another. Its not a plan at all, its him saying something that he thinks will come across as reasonable and deflect further investigation. Not so long ago we had a top 8 budget in L1 - that went well :facepalm:

The EFL do provide clubs with a league table of budgets but they do not identify each club in it so it is anonymous other than a clubs own position as I understand it. As the deadline was 16 June 2017 I very much doubt the "league" figures have been compiled yet

In any case it isn't just about money otherwise the likes of Burton, Yeovil, AFC Wimbledon etc would never have got promoted and we wouldn't have been relegated

Budgeting for 8th shouldn't make even the hardiest of Fisher fans happy.
He can make an educated guess but I suspect 8th in reality is an optimistic quote.

Do we know what percentage of our FFP allowance we actually use ?
I would suggest the cup win, ticket sales, attendances and player sales should give us a top 3 budget at least.

Back trying your hardest I see. Ignored what osb says and going on about Fisher fans whilst trying to push his shite as fact.

While opposition in the league must be beaten fair and square on the pitch a second longer in this league than necessary is a gigantic piss take. We cannot be aiming any lower than an immediate return by whatever route we can take. Bearing in mind that League 1 itself is a joke too. It isn't arrogance to have high expectations in this atrocious league.

my educated guess is that at the time he said it he was just guessing with aim at deflecting questions

The link to the SCMP details is in my post above...... L1 & L2 do not use FFP. The percentage is 55% EFL Official Website - Appendix 5 - Financial Fair Play Regulations

Going to depend on when prize money and cup income actually received. If it was before 31 May then it is in last years figures and budget. If the player sales etc give us at least top 3 then Fisher is wrong at top 8

He could be right at top 8 if he doesn't allocate the full 55% though, hence the question on seeing what we actually allocated.

I'm buzzing for Grimsby first away - big Saturday night out in Cleethorpes! Well worth a night by the seaside. We get to give the clown in the cap some stick too - surely even he's not capable of being sacked 1 game into the season!!!

Very naive if people think we are going to walk the league / promotion.

Is it naivety or Optimism
That's the difference, I am always the optomist so yes we will walk this league.
