Just seen that The Flying Standard has been sold to a company called Coffer Corporate Leisure Ltd.

Looks like they specialise in buying pubs etc. so looks like we could be getting a decent pub in there rather than the damp smelling shithole it currently is.

Brexit tramp Tim Martin has been in the City arms a couple of times recently, this is probably the reason he's been in the area.

It's on the site of a pub which was originally called "The Spotted Dog" and there was strong pressure to name it that when the former Timothy White building was converted into a pub.

I like the name The Spotted Dog. A proper pubs name.

Should petition to get the new place called it.

Looking at Coffer's website, it doesn't look like they buy and sell property in the leisure sector, but provide advice to those who want to. What's the source of this report, Garrison?

So reading deeper into this, it has been sold to a "private investor" (for £3.2M), who were advised by Coffer's. No more detail about the investor or why Wetherspoon have chosen to sell the place, and i have to say i'm quite surprised they are letting it go (unless they are merely selling the freehold and will continue as tenant, but that ain't their usual business model). Council rates might be an issue on a place with that floor area. Does it leave them without a place in central Cov?

Where exactly was this, Dutch? There was a Spotted Dog in Woodway Lane as well.

Yeah its alright in there for a few, don't really go out in Cov much tbh its gone well downhill

bit old for town now but on a rare foray it does seem to offer little nowadays. Hopefully all these developments will breathe a bit of life in to it.

Earl of Mercia is the one, it used to be Lloyds. I think Spon Gate used to be Orange House or maybe Chicago Rock? Something like that

It was in The Bull Ring, just below Butcher Row before both were redeveloped as Trinity Street. So pretty much in exactly the same place as The Flying Standard is now.

It wasn't listed here on pubs they'd actively marketed, there is more to this I think :

JDW to put 16 pubs on the market
Holy Shit - i used to drink in the Last Plantagenet on Granby Street in Leicester when i lived there. Pretty much before 'Spoons was a "thing". Maybe trying to focus on a core market, or lose pubs with giant square metreage which will cost them dear.
Looks like they are being sold off, not just selling the freehold and staying as tenants. Surprised about the Standard, to be honest. Maybe it's returning to Timothy Whites!!

I know you were only joking but Timothy Whites famously 'merged' with near-identical Boots in 1968 then disappeared almost overnight as a separate brand name.

Why is he a tramp just because he championed the cause of a free and independent Britain?
Are all the 17.4 million voters who gave this government the biggest mandate in history also tramps? Or is this derogatory term saved only for people who choose to express a different opinion to yours?

He's a multi millionaire and he dresses like a tramp. Don't be such a snowflake.
My wife has no interest in politics and when I pointed out who he was she couldn't believe how scruffy he was.
