Probable points deduction.

Bad for them, good for our survival chances.

Fuck...does that mean they get points deduction this season? If so, bang goes one of my local North-West away days....

...although I have my doubts away fans will be going anywhere next season unfortunately.

Will they get the points deduction this season or next? If it's this season they are back in the relegation places.

They've been badly run for a while even with managing fleece Sunderland.

ha ha..its all about me.....and there are some top class pies in wigan mate

Actually, I've just checked the table & they've got a fighting chance of staying up.

hopefully they do and take the 10 point hit next season. Won't harm our survival chances.

We took the 10 point penalty and easily stayed up. I know it's 'only' Wigan, but nothings a given when it comes to football.

BBC reporting its 12 points but not yet clear if it'll be this season or next.

"The standard points deduction for an English Football League club entering administration is 12 points and, should that penalty be applied this season, it would drop them to the foot of the table, four points from safety with six matches left to play."

Just feel sorry for the fans. It’ll be the first of 5-10 clubs i reckon

they may change the rules re points deducted due to Covid

They'll have to. As Wigan certainly won't be the last club to go into admin between now and the resumption of the season.

I’m pretty certain the penalty is this season. Only rolls on to next if they go into admin after they’ve been confirmed as relegated.

It would be better for us if they stay up and get the points deduction next season, but I'm pretty sure it will apply to this season. My understanding is that the admin penalty rules only applies and carries forward to the next season when a club goes into Administration already knowing the outcome of their current season ie. if they were already safe or already relegated. I wouldn't be half surprised that given the current conditions, the EFL go easy on them in terms of points deductions anyway.

Taken over 4 weeks ago, smells like owners who want to get rid of debts and buy the club back for a penny... Shambolic fit and proper tests

I’m not sure whether normal rules will apply for clubs going into admin during these times. Unless of course it is dodgy

Heard discussion on radio some saying points deduction this season but someone else said technically the season was over end of May so he thinks next season, could be a bit of a crafty move from the new owners, surely they’ve done a bit of homework on this.

I thought there was a cut-off date in March, before that date it's in the current season, after that date it's carried over into the next.

They won't finish in the relegation places this season I don't think. They have 50 points and have collected 13 points from the last 5 games, including 3-0 last night

so they will lose 12 points this season, which would still leave them needing maybe 3 wins from 6 to stay up

Just read if they finish in the bottom three the points deduction will be this year but if they finish above the bottom three it will be 12 point deduction next season.

This will probably relegate them - puts them bottom of the league. They will need to continue their fine form to escape, but if they don't manage it, it's a right kick in the teeth for players and fans. A possible/probable get out of jail for free for one club.

Fixtures left - Brentford away - defeat
QPR home - win
Barnsley away - ??
Hull home - win ?
Charlton away - ?? (if Charlton safe)
Fulham home - win (if Fulham position already secure)

Looking at those fixtures, I think the owners have gambled at them getting enough points to escape. That Barnsley game will be massive. Also, they need to beat Hull. The last matches of the season may be farcical between teams needing to stay up and those playing for nothing.

I suspect a lot of championship clubs are going to be hurting during close season. Cloth will need to be cut which will absolutely level up the playing field, to a degree.

Looking at their fixtures they still have a fighting chance of staying up but it certainly gives all the other teams down the bottom a pick-me-up as there is another team in the mix.

Also don't we want them to stay up? Am I correct that if they don't come out of admin or have certain arrangements in place before the next season starts there is another points deduction as well?
