The first World Cup semi-final was watched by nearly 8m on Tuesday night, according to the latest viewing figures.

Coverage of Holland's win against Uruguay averaged 7.92m (35.3%) for ITV1 between 7pm and 9.45pm. A further 639k (2.8%) watched the game on ITV1 HD.

After the match, James Corden's World Cup Live pulled in 3.21m (14.2%), and 313k (1.5%) when it was aired on ITV4 from 10pm.

On BBC One, Holby City secured 4.05m (16.9%) in the 8pm hour, and it was followed by New Tricks, which took 3.41m (14.4%) from 9pm.

Factual programme How To Beat Tough Times: Money Watch averaged 1.21m (5%) for BBC Two in the 8pm hour, before sitcom Miranda brought in 860k (3.5%) from 9pm.

A repeat of Top Gear took 1.27m (5.8%) for BBC Two between 9.30pm and 10.30pm.

Big Brother pulled in 2.51m (13.7%) on Channel 4 between 10pm and 11.10pm, up 790k on last night's episode. A further 190k (1.9%) watched the show on timeshift.

Earlier on Channel 4, the second instalment of new religious strand 4ThoughtTV appealed to 650k (2.9%) in its five-minute slot at the end of the Channel 4 News.

Gok's Fashion Fix secured 1.72m (7.2%) for Channel 4 in the 8pm hour and 177k (0.7%) on timeshift. It was followed by The Sex Education Show: Am I Normal?, which took 2.87m (12.1%) and 362k (1.9%) on Channel 4 +1.

Build A New Life: Was It Worth It? pulled in 876k (3.7%) for Five in the 8pm hour, before CSI grabbed 1.18m (5%) from 9pm.

Overall, ITV1 dominated primetime with 27.5% compared to BBC One's 17.2%. Channel 4 came in third with 9.4% (+1: 0.9%), followed by BBC Two with 5% and Five with 4%.

Elsewhere, a double bill of Family Guy secured the top two biggest multichannel audiences of the night, with 664k (7.5%) and 793k (4.9%) tuning in to BBC Three between 11pm and 11.45pm.

An episode of Agatha Christie's Poirot attracted 626k (2.6%) to ITV3 between 7.55pm and 9pm, before a repeat of Wycliffe took 503k (2.1%) from 9pm.
