If I had to I’d say the worst signing was Eastwood.

There were rumours about his fitness and attitude before he joined. The idiot Coleman said he wanted him on loan first and McCarthy refused knowing he’d lose the sale.

Coleman and the even bigger idiot Ranson then bought him with a 5 year contract basically blowing a large chunk of the budget on a known dud
Yep. I would go with that. The club management strategy (if you can call it that) as described here makes it the worst that I can remember. It's easy to pick players that didn't work out for whatever reason, but for the club to be so poorly clued up on what a lot of us new smacks of incompetence.

More random disasters:

Terry Butcher. £400K. 6 games. Paid highly as both a player and manager. Destroyed the team.

Pressley (who I have respect for as a manager) was a total disaster for us as a player.

Davie Bowman. Previously mentioned. Lots of hype. Very poor on the pitch.

Isaias. Not sure if we paid a fee. I liked him. Never seemed to be given a chance.

Coleman was very poor for us - very little homework/planning (except if there was a bar nearby). Reid - just as bad - missed a game due to a family party.

Cobi Jones. Mainly because I purchased the ‘Cobi’s in town’ t-shirt from the club shop. Probably imagined at the time it was cool to be wearing something with an American type slogan. Wore it once to much hilarity from my mates. Never seen again. A bit like Cobi’s career with us.

I’d disagree on this. Three nil down, away from home and pissing down with rain and on he’d come. At least you’d get some entertainment watching him try to end someone’s season

I got a green and black away top with Jones on the back cheap because they had printed it on the wrong size and needed to get rid ;)

Getting Allsop and Coulibaly from Bournemouth in the Wilson deal. Two atrocious players in one swoop.
Don't forget Mqwank. Those 3 and 400quid for Wilson!

If I remember, Isaias struggled to get a chance because he seemed to be forever injured. Hard to believe that we had the first Brazilian to play in the Premier League.

As for worst signing, well let's be honest we have a plethora of contenders. I think Sherwood was the one I was most annoyed by. All that experience, and then that one game he cost us a goal because just stopped waiting for the ref to give a decision. No decision was given, and he looked like a total idiot. For a player who'd won the Premier League, that was amateur hour.

Ysrael Zuniga
Yakubu
Onandi Lowe
Zuniga - I thought was quite good.

Lowe. 1 game. 1 goal. Not bad. Previous record was 1:2 for a poor team in our division.

Could play as defender as well.

Got charged with something, got off (rightly or wrongly). Innocent until guilty (in this case found not guilty).

Mistake to let him go.

If I were a defender, would I want to face a huge Yardie type with a point to prove who had a goal and win bonuses to win to fight a legal case?

Mistake to let him go. Bad signing? Bad handling of the situation? You decide.

Keith ONeil was one of our top earners
.He was always injured, 7 appearances in 2 years,he even was out injured once after breaking his hand on a fairground punch bag.
Come on now, he kept several drinking establishments in Leamington going for the time he was here. Those poor landlords were unable to holiday in St Lucia when he retired.

Worst signing but we somehow got our money back:

I give you Garry Borrowdale. Signed for 650 "bags". You read that right, 650K for a full back in the Championship. Thanks Dowie! Confidence seemed to be shot and he performed the worst impression of a professional footballer I personally have seen at the Ricoh. 22 games for us. Somehow then sold for 750 bags by Ranson to QPR, his best ever deal.

After 21 games for QPR he was loaned out. Within a couple of years and multiple loans later he signed full time for Tonbridge Rangers.

A few have mentioned Gary Collier. Yes, he was rubbish and cost a fortune. But....we offloaded him to somewhere like Portland Timbers and actually made a profit on him somehow.

I think the player we also signed for big money at that time was even worse, and played very few games. Step forward David Jones.

Worst makeweight:

Alan Brazil as part of Terry Gibson's move to Man Utd. Arrived injured and overweight. 15 appearances and 2 goals later was released on a free. A disaster. Within 1 year was playing for Witham Town (yes I've never heard of them either).

Leon McKenzie cost us a million quid and returned just 12 goals over 62 appearances. Not sure it makes him our worst ever signing but he wasn't good value whichever way you look at it.

Sure I remember him coming on as a sub against Forest after a long while out. He then went off again injured a short while after!

This is my memory of him. I was sat a few rows behind the dug out ages about 14/15. Actually got a cheer when he came on but not so much when he came back off. Based on the wages and his previous relatively high profile he is well up there. Similar to Sherwood. But Yakubu has to be the winner.
