The club have released a statement following recent media reports linking the club to a move to Butts Park Arena...
Coventry City Football Club are aware of recent media reports linking the club to a move to Butts Park Arena.

Any reports linking the club to any long-term deal with the Rugby Club is only speculation and we're currently exploring all options in regards to a new stadium to secure the club's long-term stability.

We will not be making any further comment at this time.

Has martcov just said the club are saying they are building at the butts? Yes he has. My answer was the club haven't which I can happily provide evidence for. Can he? Les Reid and the club are not the same person nor the same company.

Rob s says they are pissed off about it coming out. He has good contacts at CCFC.

anyway, that was the latest rumour. If it is the Butts, won't be, it is not the point. The stadium that we need is in Coventry and now belongs to someone else. One of many reasons is that we haggled over a poxy ( relatively speaking ) 2 or 5,5 m share. Could the club please release a statement saying wtf they are doing? Would be appreciated.

He is Les Reids long time pal don't you know, he appears to come on this forum when Reid wants to say something on the forum, any idea why he can't speak for himself?

There are a fair few footy related posts judging by his post history, not just about Les Reid. There was one in the Doncaster Match thread, you would know if you read it. ;)

What's that got to do with anything? Did CCFC promise a brand new state of the art facility in the city? Do they go around proclaiming to be the richest club in Europe?

You don't like the fact so claim it has no resonance. I imagine that is fine in you world.

The rumour came from Les Reid who could have just picked up on what Anderson said and pieced it together.

Not at all, he claimed to have 'sources', not to be reading between the lines.
But sources have confirmed to the Coventry Observer the plan is for a joint venture over playing and non-playing commercial operations with Coventry Rugby Football Club, which would also stand to benefit.

Where did the rumour originate? Where did the information apparently come from?

Apologies Mart, got it wrong, they actually said richest club in the world.

BBC said:
Wasps say they are on course to become the richest rugby club in the world after announcing their latest financial initiative.

On Monday they will become the first sports club to launch a retail bond listed on the London Stock Exchange, which is expected to raise up to £35m.

Wasps are also set to pass French giants Toulouse in terms of revenue.

"We expect to be in that position either at end of this season or next season," said Wasps' David Armstrong.

The big rise in revenue is a result of Wasps, who beat Exeter on Sunday to consolidate sixth place in the Premiership, buying the Ricoh Arena, in Coventry, and moving from High Wycombe to play in the Midlands.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 live, the Wasps chief executive added: "We were previously the second-lowest revenue-generating club in Premiership rugby. We are now the second highest in Europe.

"In terms of size of revenue, we will overtake Toulouse in the next few months. We are in a very strong position financially."

Doesn't say the source was from the club though does it? Which was what you were trying to insinuate. That the club was claiming to be building at the butts. When in actual fact the club has made no such claims. On the other hand wasps the club have claimed to be the richest club. Starting to get why grendel calls you council dart now.

No, I queried why Wasps couldn't start work on their promised state of the art facility, given they proclaim to be so well off, before finding someone else to pay for it.

Your response was about who paid for the academy which is totally irrelevant.

Didn't Rob S post on here saying the club were furious details had been published?

Depends, they might end up being the biggest loss making club in the world if revenue generated does not cover expenditure.

No my response was about who pays for what, I was simply pointing out that CCFC were provided with facilities paid for by the Higgs charity, which is not dissimilar to my mind than Wasps getting a sponsor for their planned training centre. My post is squarely on topic.

Who does Anderesen work for? He is a very intelligent person - was professor at Cornell, writes books on big data etc.. Now there was a claim that he is not good at local geography and some back peddling. Les refers to sources as does his mate RobS. Both are known to have good contacts to SISU. My take is that SISU threw the Butts into the discussion to strengthen their hand in rent negotiations just as Wasps put out the academy rumour to strengthen their hand. The reality could be that Anderesen is here to work out whether it is better to rent for the next 10 years from Wasps or build a stadium. How much can we afford as rent as opposed to a new build and it's costs. Which is what I have being trying to say about whether it would have been better to pay up to 30m for the Ricoh when we had the chance, or to pay at least 30m for a lesser stadium somewhere near by. Andersen should have been there then.

Yes, he also does that but it doesn't follow he is therefore not echoing the thoughts of an award winning journalist too.

Are you having trouble thinking that one through?

Possibly. Still no official stance though. I'd love it personally. Well that's if us fans got a say in how it was in terms of closeness to the pitch and away fans etc.

Not quite true is it, don't we pay for the use of Higgs? So we hire an existing facility. Same as if you or I wanted to hire it.

What Wasps are wanting is someone to pay for their own facility which may or may not be open to others. And if it is open to other it will most likley be at a cost which generates money for Wasps.

Any venue has running costs, why wouldn't you have to pay something towards that, the important bit is whether it is a profit centre for the provider or more of an asset that is used at more or less break even. I doubt any sponsors would like to pick up the tab on running costs either, but they will want their name emblazoned all over the facility to maximize publicity.

Hedge fund in using someone else's money to invest with shocker. I'm sure Joy will be dipping into her own personal bank account to pay for a new stadium as she does with all SISU's investments.
