...who play in the Midland League sharing with Coventry Sphinx have apparently had talks with Cov RFC about moving into the BPA according to the CT.

They must have some money behind them...

Last time I checked on their progress was about a year ago, and they were doing very well. A club that size, in the league it's in, can't require heavy funding though, can it? Maybe a 100k or so?

Just wish they'd change the name from United. Just sounds like there's so little thought gone into it and it's all to formulaic and dull and lazy.

For a new club you want something fresh and vibrant, or something with some kind of association.

Would have thought they could have considered Godiva at the very least.

I like their colours using the red and green of the city. Agree re the name....they have Godiva on their badge so would be nice to see that in their name

Godiva Athletic? Or Godiva A.F.C for short?

Despite how pleased I am for their success, they really should change the kit...red and lime green is the colour of infected diarrhoea ffs.

Navy blue shirt, white and gold trim, navy shorts and white socks with gold trim. Nice.

EDIT: Just seen lifeskyblue's post; I realise they're trying to keep the kit in-keeping with the traditional Coventry colours, but in my opinion, it looks awful.

The whole Cov Utd thing comes across to me as a bit of an ego trip. If there's some money to put into local football why not put it into someone like Sphinx?

Well yep, that would have been much more preferable, but even though they have denied it, the formation of Coventry United did come across very much as a protest against what was happening with CCFC and its owners.

Playing naked no doubt?

Yep completely agree, add that they tried to take advantage of our demise and sisu to launch themselves. They can Feck right off in my view.

It does translate that way, now that I think about it. Bit underhanded, I must say. Still, I can't see them making waves or attaining FL status anytime soon.

A bit of competition is not a bad thing. Keeps you on your toes.

I don't wish them any ill, but to me it seems if they had gone about this in an entirely different way they might well have galvansied a lot more support.

To call them competition is overstating it somewhat.

someone called stupot07 seems to think they are taking advantage of our demise..... A bit dramatic....

Yup.

In general, I'd say good on people setting up a new club (and what's wrong with Utd anyway? It's a traditional name, and if they did ever get to a half decent level it's traditional for Utd v City to be derbies. Either that or Rovers etc.)

My problem was always more they seemed to be trying to capitalise on our misery.

If they just focus on their own club and try and grow it however, then fair play to them and hope they do well.

If there had been a National League club in Coventry (that is the level of Nuneaton, tier 6) then the stunt to move to Northampton would probably never had happened.

Sphinx are tier 9, Cov Utd are tier 10 (but at the top of the table 10pts clear of nearest challenger).

I said they were set up with the premise of taking advantage of our demise. No drama, just fact. That's a lot different to being genuine competition. You're just being pedantic. As been said before why not invest in a well established club like Sphinx?
