As a kid used to love the Boxing Day fixture at Highfield Road especially when the pitch was snow covered. But the best ever Christmas game I've ever seen was on the 27th of December in the 77-78 season, when we beat Norwich 5-4 in a thriller. This match has been mentioned on here before, but it was so special it's worth a revisit. Ian Wallace's bicycle kick was world class and I can still remember us in the West End going ballistic when it hit the net.Blyth's penalty save to give us the win was Roy Of The Rovers stuff, and even though it was a proper freezing day,the football was that good by both teams that you hardly noticed it at all. What a game !

Not sure on that one wingy ? I also recall a Boxing Day match as a kid when we played Liverpool, and they had St John,Roger Hunt, Callaghan and other star names. It ended 1-1 but what stood out was when St John floored Brian Lewis with a right hook which left him out cold for ages.My dad who was a boxing fan reckoned it was the best punch he'd seen for a long time !

I was stood on the Spion Kop with my dad and my uncle. I think Lewis was winding him up as Lewis was a bit of a tough guy wasn't he ? St John decked him and calmly walked off if I remember ?
Yes, I remember that too.

St.John went on to play for us later on too didn't he.

Can't remember him pulling up any trees for us though. He was a great little player for Liverpool.

Thinking about the Jimmy Hill years and came up with Peterborough home not sure if it was 3-0 or 3-3 Hudson for us, sat in the wooden stand and paid extra for a cushion ,opp main stand before the fire that was. cant remember year but a great game.

Was at this - not often your keeper gets carried off shoulder high like a hero having let 4 in :D

Peters hit the post at 5-4 but you're right Blyth was the hero for his penalty save. Still talk about this game all these years on,as it had the lot, goals, saves, near misses, and it was the perfect Christmas present !

For me as a fan it was the Man U boxing day game. Still smile everytime I see that Huckerby goal :)
Deffinately, I remember the explosion of joy when that went in.
As for the 4-3 against Spurs I don't remember it being a Boxing Day fixture, I'm sure it was a night match, anyway apart from the cup final, it was my favourite ever game.

It was definitely a daytime Christmas game. One of the best games I've been to. Was this the one where spurs had to wear our away kit?

Can't remember the 5-4 against Norwich been boxing day but another cracker. Last minute penalty save from Jim Blyth.

Villa and Liverpool over Christmas ('92 / '93). Fell in love with CCFC that week.
