Think the Spurs game was New Year's Eve or day Norwich certain it was a Boxing Day game and in another 5-4 was v Newcastle. Think the Norwich 5-4 was the best had everything bicycle kick goal from Ian Wallace, last minute penalty save the lot, think Norwich might have been top of the league too

It was definitely a daytime Christmas game. One of the best games I've been to. Was this the one where spurs had to wear our away kit?

Can't remember the 5-4 against Norwich been boxing day but another cracker. Last minute penalty save from Jim Blyth.
It was on the 27th as I always thought it was on Boxing Day but after checking it was the day after. One of the best games I've ever seen !

Wasn't that the Villa game where we went 1-0 up in the 90th minute only for them to kick off go straight up and equalise and we had to wait nearly 20 years for our first ever win at Vile Park

Also remember a Boxing Day game vs Forest but it was shite. 0-0. Pearce spent most of the game kissing his Forest badge in front of the Wst End after he missed a penalty for them. I think the crossbar was still shaking when we left Highfielf Road

When THAT goal went in, was anyone else expecting the ref or lino to disallow it simply 'cos it was a winner against Utd in the last minute?

It was the 90's and refs usually only allowed Utd to grab a winner that late on, even if it meant adding injury time till they did score.

Man United. Because I think it has been twice at Highfield Road.

Cheers for the link Ken, I haven't seen that in 30 years! Definitely the most entertaining game I've ever seen. Most of the actual goals weren't that spectacular, but I remember it was open football for 90 minutes, end to end stuff with great shots and saves, and the woodwork hit several times. I've never been able to dislike Spurs, because our games with them always seemed to be played in a fine spirit, and they often seemed to be the source of 3 points for us just when we needed them most :)

As a kid used to love the Boxing Day fixture at Highfield Road especially when the pitch was snow covered. But the best ever Christmas game I've ever seen was on the 27th of December in the 77-78 season, when we beat Norwich 5-4 in a thriller. This match has been mentioned on here before, but it was so special it's worth a revisit. Ian Wallace's bicycle kick was world class and I can still remember us in the West End going ballistic when it hit the net.Blyth's penalty save to give us the win was Roy Of The Rovers stuff, and even though it was a proper freezing day,the football was that good by both teams that you hardly noticed it at all. What a game !

I was in the West End that day... one of the most thrilling games I've ever witnessed. I don't even remember it being cold!

Loved the 3-0 against Villa, the 3-2 against Man Utd, and then Arsenal, as well as the 4-3 against Spurs, but I really enjoyed the 5-1 against Liverpool on 19/12/92.

Great game, 2 goals from Bugsy, 2 from Micky Quinn, and one from Gallacher. We absoloutely smashed them.

Boxing day 1977 at Villa Park, Deehan scored, the Vile supporters were singing Wallace is a Wanker and guess who had the last laugh to make the score 1-1, great game and great Sky Blue support that day

I was in the West Stand that day, sure the ball actually hit the roof of the stand after it had hit the bar for the missed pen. 1994 it was.
