The story was that the council had decided to bail out ACL with public money.

At the time the CT was aware of it but sat on the story due to its cosy relationship with the council. Amazing really that a local paper would collude in such a way.
And yet not so amazing that Tony, Mart, Dongo et al ignore the fact completely. They think shouting Les Reid will make it all go away.

Stupot - have faith sometimes top managers can make a silk purse out of a sours ear. look at Leicester currently leading the premiership and it's considered by some Chelsea and man City have the best squads amounting to 100's of millions! Of course it's tough but momentum and big crowds can play a big part and our current squad would not be so bad in the championship with a few teaks....

We will have a bottom 4 wage bill because we will have a bottom 4 turnover and not have an owner willing to supplement it with £10-15m pa.

Our current squad would struggle in the championship.

It's not about having faith or not, it's the cold hard facts of finance.

Tell TM that! I'm sure he knows what he could do given a few quid. If not then we should all give up on promotion now if we maintain the view you have.

It's football and isn't always as simple as the best squads. Leicester are a clear example of that. QPR should be at the top end of the championship but they are not.

Don't be so quick to dismiss.

But that story came out long before LR left the CT. So where's the suppressed stories or even details? As I said I don't recall reading anything since LR joined the observer that hadn't already come out.

Didn't it come out after it actually happened?

I agree there will always be someone wanting to pay for the sponsorship of the arena, as you said though, the question would be how much. I believe we are the major draw as the popularity of football still far outweighs Rugby. I imagine Ricoh paid what they did as they believed there was a chance of us becoming a premiership football club during the 10 year agreement and the exposure that comes with anything attached to that is enormous. I just cant see anybody willing to pay very much for the naming right of an arena that, in 2 years time, may just be for a rugby club that are seen on BT sport once every couple of months. As wasps have to raise this £2m a year plus any operating costs they have before break even they will be pretty anxious to get a deal tied down asap and that may mean agreeing something that is below the value of the Ricoh deal.

The sponsorship deal is beening done for the arena as we speak........

I'm not quick to dismiss, I just know given our restraints on revenues and an owner who has said they won't throw in extra cash that our wage bill will be one of the lowest in the championship. That makes it an almost impossible task, we can dream but we also have to be realistic.

And why should we give up on promotion because we know we will likely struggle in the championship? I'm sure most teams that get promoted are happy with being promoted and know that they will likely struggle in the championship but just enjoy the ride.

The way you go on, it sounds as though getting to the PL is a formality - get promoted, have some momentum, bobs your uncle your in the PL......

Leicester are doing great but I doubt they have a bottom 3 wage bill, and we know teams that get relegated tend to have inflated wage bills with aging players that are past their best.

Now the CCFC deal is signed, that being the hold up, question is how long will this next deal be, 2, 5 or 10 years?

Some history (well more of a self promotion peiece by Fletcher, but an interesting read anyway, it does suggest the Jaguar hall element may have expired too) http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/sport/football/football-news/paul-fletcher-how-struck-ricoh-3025113

Who knows how long, but it is the right time to maybe tie up the Arena and halls to one sponsor now that would be worth more surely?
And who knows maybe the Wasps sponsors JLR will want to have the Arena now that they are doing well in the automotive world, after all they were the original sponsor back in the building stage.

No point arguing this Stu, we are all wanting the same thing. I just don't share you pessimism you call realism. We don't exactly know what the owners will do, do we?
They do want out asap and to get there they will need to invest at each stage. Selling Maddison for 10m and reinvesting a chunk of that may well make what my optimism is saying, happen. We have the right man at the helm and that makes a huge difference, not just the cash you can pump in.

So have they said to the CET we have a story. It's yours as an exclusive but you can't print it till the deal is done due to commercial confidentiality.
I can only read those documents on my phone and can't make any sense of them.
Is that's what's happened. Or have the CET for wind of the Wasps deal and then it has been confirmed off the record again under the agreement don't publish it till we say and you get the exclusive.
Or am I way off track here. Is it all about something else?
I keep asking as I can't make sense of the documents and all anyone who is complaining says is read the documents.

Don't see the point of all this because nobody will change their view. People will interpret and twist things to fit their position because nobody likes to admit they were wrong.

I remember arguing endlessly with people on here about the signed HOT for the SISU buy-out of the Ricoh that the council then reneged on. People screamed that no such agreement existed. It was of course produced in the ethics hearing the other week but went largely unnoticed. The fact that a number of SISU claims from that time turned out to be true, but which were dismissed as 'spin' as the time, is still not going to change anyone's position. The irony of course is that the spin tended to come from the other side and people swallowed it whole. Perhaps SISU should have hired a PR company (and then denied it).

I just don't know what the accusation is?

It's not an accusation. It's what happened. The telegraph knew/found out of the bail out. The council then requested they not release the story. Thus buying time to allow the bail out. Gilbert states they just report on the news and release whatever they have. Apart from this time

Thanks for trying to explain it....

So was it a case of you already know the story. Dont report it and we will give you the exclusive
Or
Here is a tasty story report it when we bid and the exclusive is yours?

Or.

Don't say anything until it's all gone through because shit will hit the fan.

Let's face it, at that time who else would report it? It's not an exclusive the nationals would be in on

Is that how it is said then?

That's what I am asking how is it put in the documents I can't make any sense of them?

I am really surprised about this myself.

I was totally under the impression we had been building a stadium out of town and it was being built in such secrecy that it was nearing completion.

Oh well happy Christmass one and all.
