A difficult game to score, it was a game where were were under par, outplayed in the first half, better in the second but created little.

RCC - 6 - did what he needed too, never really tested despite port vale getting in our final third a lot int be first half. Claimed some catches, distribution not as a good as usual.
Phillips - 6 port vale targeted him on the first half, but was on of his better games. Didn't offer any outlier going forward.
Martin - 8 (MOTM) - was impressive today, made numerous last ditch blocks. Looked calm and composed in the ball.
Ricketts - 6 - had a few awkward moments in the first half and was a too casual at times.
Stokes - 6 - he is mr consistent, he does remarkably well given Murphy offers zero protection. Also tried to give us an option on the left
Vincelot - 5 - was poor first. He and Bigi gave their midfield far too much room and port vale were able to pass through us and get into the whole between the midfield and defence.
Bigi - 4 - like Vincelot gave port vale too much space in the midfield. Gave the ball away a lot, was far too deep and took too long to control and choose his pass. One nice ball out Phillips in the first half.
Lamieres - 5 - showed some nice touches, and a great through ball for Murphy. But like the rest of the midfield struggled to impose himself on the game in the first half
Cole - 5.5 - though he looked more assured on the ball and one amazing piece of skill. But you can't forgive the first half in which our midfield was dominated.
Murphy - 6.5 - offers nothing defensively, and the amount of times he waits for pass to arrive to him is frustrating, but he was the initial catalyst that got us on the front foot in the second half with some strong running.
Armstrong - 5 - looks a shadow of his former self. Looks like he needs a break.

Subs
JOB - 7 - his work rate upped the tempo, he didn't give their midfield or left bAck a second on the ball and it seems to drag the team forward 10 yards.
Maddison - 7 - Looked stronger than last Saturday, what a piece of skill and shot for the goal. His movement off the ball and ability on it, is head and shoulders above anyone else in our squad
Kent - 3 - ran around a bit, and missed a glorious chance in his only touch after coming on. Just couldn't get into the match but provided fresh legs.

Cole and bigi were poor, Armstrong offered little for most if the game and matting carried the defence. How job doesn't start is madness, he is our best player after Madison. I would get rid of cole now, offers little compared to lameiras and Kent. Lameiras motm for the best part, job changed the game though. Agree with most but:
Cole: 4
Lameiras: 7
Stokes: 5

Rcc-7 pretty solid. Fans didn't help first half
Phillips-6.5 quite impressed defensively last 2 games. Didn't tire as much as against Oldham. Not convinced he can push on but come back improved
Stokes-7 some good link up play second half and pretty solid at back
Ricketts-6.5 organised defence well second half
Martin-7.5 my mom - think he very solid at the moment. He needs to learn to give an easy pass to the midfield rather than try being the playmaker
Bigi-6 tires in games and still prone to inexperience. Shame he hasn't played 150 games at this level due to an early move. I think he would be a good signing. Some of his passing is excellent
Vincelot-6 thought he wasn't at his best yesterday but was instrumental in geeing up the players around him
Cole-6 easily his best game. From 35-when subbed he was good! His turn was beautiful! Really hope he can push on
Murphy-6.5 poor first half. Really didn't help stokes at all but second half much more positive and unlucky not to win penalty
Lameiras-7 our best player on the ball. Does some daft stuff but his touch is sublime
Arma-6 not the player he was earlier on but thrives on the ball to feet and we failed to give it to his feet so much

Maddison-7 such a great touch. Everything he does oozes class. Fabulous goal
Job-6 excellent energy and drive
Kent-5 not long enough really but should have stroked home Maddison pass

Leaving Job and Maddison out of it I don't think there was a player worth more than a 6 to be honest, I would just edge Murphy m o m for his attacking second half

I thought Cole did okay, certainly looks like he is improving. If we had big Reda playing, he would score from every corner Joe Cole put in.

JOB doesn't start because of the Cole fixation...despite games going away from us when Cole is on the pitch like Sheffield United and yesterday. I do feel sorry for JOB because he is one of our more consistent players.

RCC a 7 and Phillips only a 6.5?? What game do some people watch, seriously.

RCC - 6 - Nothing to do, defence looked unsure of him a few panicked headers away from under his nose. Punched it instead of trying to catch in impossible situations which I'm glad about as it shows he's learning. Needs to work on distribution, can barely kick it past the halfway line.

Phillips - 8 - Briliant performance.

Martin - 8 - See above.

Ricketts - 5 - Sloppy in possession, he's very hesitant when dealing with the bouncing ball.

Stokes - 7 - Ever improving, one of my players of the season.

Vincelot - 7 - Thought he was immense last 30 mins, real senior pro's performance. At times had to do 2 mans job defensively as Bigi was nowhere to be seen.

Bigi - 5 - Okay in possession but out of possession he's useless. Needs games, needs to build confidence and needs to work on how to manage a game. He's 22 but his lack of game time means he still plays like a 17 year old.

Lamerias - 6 - A few real classy moments, a few 'what the hell you doing' moments. No doubting he's talent, apart from Maddison he's the most talented player we have. He's going to be very very good but like Bigi, needs game time.

Cole - 6 - First half hour wasn't in the game at all. From then to when he went off at times he showed real glimpses of quality. In the right game and right situation I still think he can be huge for us.

Murphy - 6 - typical Murphy performance, one minute he looks like a Sunday league player the next minute he looks like Franck Ribery. Oh and stop trying to take people on whilst you're on the byline, you can only end up running it out of play or running it straight to the keepers hands. You achieve absolutely fuck all by doing it.

Armstrong - 5 - Really quiet lately, my worry with him is that if he's not scoring he doesn't offer the team all that much. Would start Tudgay next game.

Maddison - 7 - What a goal
Job - 6 - good impact again.

Agree with most of that.
RCC had a couple of dodgy 'pass-outs' in the first half, but overall was pretty steady, albeit without being troubled too much.
Thought Phillips had a pretty decent game and was one of the few players especially in the first half who matched Vale's aggression and physical approach.
Stokes as always was steady and has turned into a very consistent and reliable performer.
Ricketts and Martin were both generally steady, without being outstanding.
Vincelot wasn't at his best yesterday,I think he misses Fleck as the whole team clearly does.
Bigi worked quite hard and shows for the ball a lot, but he gave the ball in dangerous areas on an alarming number of times.Shows willing but still not totally convinced.
Cole keeps the ball well at times, but not yet the 'match winner' people had hoped for.
Lamieres some lovely touches at time, but seems to get bullied of the ball quite easily, nearly gifted a goal in the first half with an awful back pass, often flatters to deceive for me.
Murphy a true enigma, but has pace to burn, and most games will produce moments of real threat and is a proven match winner
Armstrong was poor yesterday, although the team as a whole were poor and he was generally feeding on scraps.A couple of times he had chances to put in decent crosses he just blasted them over, without looking up and trying to pick out a player. But he has made an outstanding contribution so far, and I'm sure another goal is not far away.
JOB made an instant impact with his energy and drive, and hopefully will start Monday.
Maddison proved again what a real talent he has. His ability to find pockets of space, to take a ball under pressure, his awareness of other players marks him out as a quality above your Kents or Armstrongs. A wonderful goal and him returning to full fitness is a real bonus. We just need to keep him. and keep him fit.
Kent not on long enough really, but he missed a glorious chance, fortunately it didn't cost us.

Martin was great, maddison looked amazing when he came on. need to start him and jim against chesterfield with either cole or lameiras. Phillips made some great tackles but constantly looks like hes going to give a pen away when their attackers get near the box, im hoping that swede gets fit soon.

I think that might be slightly unfair, because I'm sure Cole said he wasn't quite fit enough to play both Saturday and Monday, so I'm sure JOB will be back in on Monday.

Don't think yesterday was about dropping players, but choosing players over a 2 game stretch.

RCC - 7 clean sheet, did his job. No clangers.
Phillips - 6 first half 8 second. Though that was his best game for us, won his share of headers got the ball away when he needed to, offered a threat going forward. Looks like Mowbray is rubbing off on him.
Martin - 7 solid throughout, really becoming one of the most improved players under Mowbray
Ricketts - 6 did OK, maybe I expect more from him
Stokes - 7 solid enough with little cover and good going forward.
Vincelot - 7 did his job well, obviously misses Fleck
Bigi - 7 Played some lovely balls second half, not convinced about him defensively but he's improving in terms of playing to the teams shape. Got better as the game went on.
Lameiras - 6 did OK, some nice runs but too much of a passenger without the ball first half.
Cole - 4 for the first half hour, 6 afterwards. Awful at first, obviously missing his pace and off the pace of the game. Got better towards the end of the second half, one lovely bit of skill and a couple of decent balls into the box show there is a player in there, just whether we can coax him out and use him properly before he goes back. Offered nothing defensively.
Murphy - 8 again out biggest threat. Taking it from deepened driving at players, frightening pace makes a lot of balls look better than they are. Probably the best of the front 4 at tracking back but that's like saying he was the shiniest turd.
Armstrong - 5 Looked tired, offers nothing at all without the ball and very little going forward if he's not on the end of something in and around the box. Needs a rest. He's started snatching at things and his selfishness is becoming less of an asset when he's not scoring.

Subs:

JOB - 7 What we were missing in the front line. His energy is so important. Plus I've watching him moan. First name on the team sheet for me.
Maddison - 7 What a goal and some great close control elsewhere. Understandably looked a little off match sharpness and a touch afraid of the tackle IMO. But when he's got the ball, oh my God I love this kid.
Kent - 6 Did OK, it's Kent innit. Lots of pace and skill, little footballing brain. Not on at the right time to make a difference.
