RCC 8 - great saves and handled crosses well
Haynes 7 - Solid enough, got forward well at times
Phillips 7 - Tackled his winger very well, getting better
Stokes 7 - Looked assured
Ricketts 7 - Too casual at times but lovely reverse ball to Vincelot for the penalty
Vincelot 8 - Dominant
Fleck 8 - Tireless
Cole 7 - Improving, rarely loses the ball
Murphy 8 - Two great goals, he's a bit of a wildcard but unstoppable at times
Maddison 7 - Some lovely touches and some over playing (forgivable)
Armstrong 9 - From the first minute you could see he was going to have a good game. Great movement.

JOB 6 - Energetic but gave it away
Kent 6 - Good running but no sign of an end product

RCC- 8 done everything well and didn't drop one ball.
Haynes - 8 looked better today. Fast and strong. Committed.
Stokes- 8 looked controlled and steady to me.
Ricketts - 7 not his best game but still steady and commanding.
Phillips- 8 massively improving now. Great engine and very fast.
Fleck - 7 did well, not his best but very good still mind.
Vincelot-7 did well again. No frills get what you see.

RCC - 9 made four great saves (three one on ones) and quick distribution helped start countless counter attacks
Phillips - 8.5 had their LM in his pocket all game, few poorly placed passes towards the end but can be forgiven when he made so many tackles
Ricketts - 6.5 solid but a few errors allowed RCC to showcase why he's so important
7.5 - can't believe how solid he has been last two games as a makeshift ex-nonleague at cb
Haynes 7 - solid defensively, got in to some great positions, lacked final ball
Vincelot - 7.5 a player you would love to play with, as committed as you can be, drove forward with the ball well at times
Fleck - 7.5 so composed on the ball and dictates well from midfield. Few misplaced passes going forward
Cole - 8 barely gave the ball away. Touches of class, set piece delivery like we haven't seen for years and commands other players in defensive situations.
Maddison 7 - some great touches, great vision and agility. Overplayed slightly on occasion if I'm being harsh
Murphy 7.5 - took both goals exceptionally. Rating seems harsh but on occasions can seem disinterested defensively, makes odd decisions at times but no doubting his potential
Armstrong 9 - ran his heart out and the Crewe defence ragged. Clinical finishing to the extreme (didn't like to see dispute between him and Maddison over pen). Missed out on a ten for that awful miss.
Bigi 8 - still can't get over the criticism of him. Huge quality on the ball. Few fantastic passes and glided passed players
Kent 6 - much of the same. Ran at players with no end product
O'Brien - 6.5 didn't see too much playing time but worked tirelessly and few neat passes

Just wonder if a case can be made for Phillips suddenly playing well because we have brought Lorentzson in?
Sometimes a player can be more determined to keep his place with a competition for places and a new player breathing down his neck. Just trying that bit harder.
Yes, Lorentzson is injured at the moment, but it didn't sound very serious and surely he'll be banging on the door very soon.
Phillips trying extra hard to keep his place perhaps? He had been poor early on, but has suddenly started putting very good performances together.

When we lost Reda I thought we would be in trouble. Sometimes it seems an injury to one can be the catalyst for another. With Turner short lived he knows his chance is now. Well done to him.

I think it is the other way round Otis, I think Phillips was trying too hard when he first got back in the side and made one or two silly rash mistakes. I think the little run of games has given him confidence and settled him down a bit.
Players have to be ready to take their chance and we are seeing that with RCC and Stokes certainly. To some extent we are now seeing signs of it with Phillips and Haynes. They are not going to be perfect every week they are young players. But neither have Armstrong and Murphy been perfect every week. The team needs to keep developing and learning together. With Maddison back in and seemingly hitting the ground running the second half of the,season could be an interesting one.

All things are possible & we don't have a portal into his mind. However, I think this is unlikely. He's a young lad given an opportunity in the first team - he knows that when Martin is fit there is always the threat of Ricketts moving into the RB position. I'd have thought that's all the motivation he would need.
I suspect it's more to do with:
a) He's getting more experience and improving as he learns.
b) Possibly he was against poorer LMs this last two games.
I hope it's more of the former but only time will tell. I'd love him (& Haynes) to make the grade.

To be watching a back line of Phillip Willis Harries Haynes in a few years would be amazing (assuming they've all improved to the appropriate level)
Then a midfield including G Thomas, Lawton, Stevenson, Maddison with Sambou up front banging them in.
A man can dream. I remember thinking Willie Boland and Carlita were going to rip the Premises to shreds.

Yeah, same here, I'm a bit of a footy romantic too...there's a strange pride seeing the youth players 'make it', and personally, I'd love to see the boys evolve into formidable first team players.
I was there too, hoping the likes of Barry Prenderville, Boland, Adam Willis, Chris McMenamin and Richard Spong would actually do something other than languish in the reserves or warm the bench.
Well, dreams can become reality, 'cos we've got some brilliant young prospects coming through these days.

RCC not been totally convinced by him, but yesterday he had a great game, and he made a crucial save at 1-0 when he came out and a brilliant block with his feet. From a possible 1-1 game within minutes it was 2-0 and virtually game over. In the 2nd half he made a couple of excellent stops and his decision making was very good too. Crewe actually created more chances than Chesterfield did, and for me it was his best game so far,very pleasing to see.
Philips had a pretty decent game and had a purple period in the 2nd half when he made 3 or 4 great tackles in a very short period.Playing more regularly has helped his confidence, and the team has benefited.
Haynes was always a good attacking outlet, and looked more like the player at the start of his career, defensively still not quite convinced.
Ricketts had a poor start with several misplaced passes, but got much better as the game wore on.
Stokes had another outstanding game, calm and assured and hardly ever gave the ball away. He looked liked he had played there his whole career,don't think there has been a more consistent player for us all season.
Vincelot and Fleck both had steady games,both good without being outstanding.
Cole missed what looked like a sitter in the first minute, was decent without being exceptional, however he rarely gives the ball away, perhaps we all expect too much from him.
Maddison was always busy showing for the ball, shows moments of absolute quality, one pass in the 2nd half to Murphy was sublime.
Murphy showed again what an enigma he can be. My man of the Match though, scored 2 fantastic goals, won the penalty,set up Armstrong's first goal, and also provided a great cross for the sitter that Armstrong missed. Yet he had a 10-15 minute period in the 2nd half, when he looked poor and was brushed off the ball far too easily.Then suddenly he burst into life and becomes virtually unplayable.He is a real talent though and an absolute match winner.
Armstrong two great goals and a penalty, a much needed boost to his confidence, as his goals will be vital in the weeks ahead.
Bigi came on when the game was over, but was involved with a lot of link play and passed the ball a lot better

RCC was my man of the match. After all the recent criticism, knocks in confidence for coming and claiming crosses. Yesterday he was excellent all round. Come and collected every ball in terrible slippery conditions. Made vital saves in 1v1 situations and deserved the clean sheet.
Aaron Phillips also had one of his best games for the city and seems to be growing in confidence having a good run in the team.
Adam Armstrong was unplayable at times too, what a future he has
Jacob Murphy too had a fantastic game offensively too, I'd like him to help and drop more occasionally. Tho maybe he's told not too.
Chris stokes was solid too, unfortunately for Haynes I'd keep stokes in ahead of him when martin is fit or a suitable defender is drafted in.
