Sad news. Legend seems to small a title for someone who carved the music scene for decades. Hugely talented and a ground breaker. They'll never be another like him.

What a sad loss to the music world.
A few years back we went to a Tina Turner concert at the NEC with Bryan Adams as the warm up act (Yes, just as he was starting out and had his first top ten hit). In the second half Bowie came on as a surprise special guest and him and Tina did an unforgettable version of Let's Dance together - went on for about 30 minutes. Absolutely magical show.
RIP David Bowie.

This is the first time I have actually cried and literally been in tears over an artist since John Lennon died.
Think I will be in stunned silence over this news for days to come.
As Eddie Izzard has said this morning, every radio station across the globe should dedicate their entire programming to the songs of David Bowie for the day.
He WAS that important.

I love Bowie. The vinyl of Blackstar popped through my door on Saturday morning too, great album.

I'm sure someone from Radio 1 said they interviewed him just this weekend and she knew nothing at all.
My assumption is that the media didn't know and it was only those really, really close to him who were aware.
Do you think for a second if the media knew that someone wouldn't have opened their big gob about it?
Was watching Amy on Friday and the press all knew she was really suffering and on a slippery slope, yet when she booked into a remote, quiet hotel somewhere as part of her rehab, apparently the Sun and the Mirror bought up every other room in the hotel so they could photo her at her lowest ebb.

a real music genius that continually moved in new directions breaking the ground for others. Few will ever have the music influence he had.
There are two favouirite memories of him that will always make me smile.
Firstly the nights down the Lanchester Polytechnic student bar (now Cov Uni) in the early mid seventies, dancing (I use the term loosely) to the likes of "suffragette city", "rebel rebel" et al. Had some great nights with good friends
Secondly seeing him in 1983 at the Milton Keynes bowl on the Serious Moonlight Tour. He mesmerised 40000+ from the moment he walked out on to stage until the second he left it. No one wanted the night to end

BBC 6 Music are certainly doing their bit......fantastic tributes, loadsa tunes & Radcliffe has a special tribute show from 1.00pm......would not surprise me if he chokes up on air as he was a massive massive Bowie fan....
World is certainly a shitter place today.

Got into my car to go to work this morningh, and 5 Live playing Ashes to Ashes, unusual for them to play music, then they said that David Bowie had died.
Had to pull over, rare for me to get really upset over anything really, but this has genuinely it me hard.
Been a massive part of my life since my early teens, had virtually everything he'd recorded, spent years(and many, many pounds) scouring record fairs, Reddingtons Rare Records in Birmingham etc. for picture dics, white labels, first editions, imports, etc, was pretty much obsessed with his whole life and work.(I even liked Tin Machine!)
Though it's an exercise in futility trying to pick a "best" track from Bowie, I'm going to put this one up today.
There is a Starman waiting in the sky now, and his name is Bowie.
The World is a lesser and much sadder place today.

An absolutely massive loss to the world. He changed the musical world forever, his life was a piece of art. I think 'Low' is my favorite record of his, just the sheer boldness of embracing the Berlin electronic world when it was absolutely not what the world was wanting or expecting of him, he did things on his terms. The guy is my musical idol and massively influenced the music I make today.
This morning I feel a mixture of absolute sadness but so so proud of him.

Starman, Heroes, Life on Mars, Suffragette City and Five Years are my favourites.
Been a big part of my life too and when I embraced punk and pretty much dissed all that had gone before it, there he still was and at gigs for the likes of the Clash and Buzzcocks and Generation X etc. etc., there his music was still being played in the background before bands would come on.
The album Heroes very much fitted in snuggily with what was going on around it and that was the same with all his albums, he always seemed to capture the mood of the latest vibe and be at the forefront of anything new and innovative, but at the same time it always felt the perfect fit.
Think that even if anyone didn't like his music they would have to admit to his importance and how groundbreaking he was.
His music will live on forever and a day.

To be honest, I missed the Bowie phenomenon by a few years, but as an artist, I have respect for him. "Heroes" is actually one of my favourite all-time songs by anyone.
R.I.P to a true legend of the music industry.

Like Otis when I heard on the radio this morning that Bowie was dead I wobbled a bit just like when Lennon got murdered.He was the 70's to me even though I was into Sabbath and Deep Purple etc, I still listened to his music and enjoyed it. I too never knew he was fighting Cancer so that has made it even more of a shock.Lemmy passing away was no shock but Bowie dying is a massive one. I was only reading about his new album last week and wondering if it was any good ? But I've heard it is excellent so at least that's positive if nothing else.

Loved his music, but I never saw him. Only last week as I was mapping out my 'What I'm gonna do in my 50th year', did I wonder if he had another tour left in him. Gutted at his passing but so thankful for his music.

"Five years" is one of the songs that me & my best mate used to sing to each other at the tops of our voices in every car, van, house party etc.
My best mate died after an OD at a party back in 1997.
"Kooks" is the first song I played to my eldest son on my guitar when we bought him home from hospital.....18 months after the death of my baby daughter.....
.....just a little example of how music moves us all & really does provide a soundtrack to our lives.

Shocked and saddened to hear this.. Talented enough to transcend taste and genre.. So many great songs that have provided a musical soundtrack to so many peoples lives.
Such wonderful personal memories of the 70.s listening to Bowie tracks down the Lanch and the Climax.. The world is indeed less today.. RIP...
