We're a side with a front four consisting of no-one over the height of about 6ft 2 and we play a long ball every single time without fail to the like of Lameiras and Murphy on the wings who aren't comfortable in the air. Armstrong at least attempted today in the air whereas he didn't on Tuesday yet there were still lots of times that they waited for the Burton defence to make mistakes so they could counter which didn't work and when the ball was loose, we didn't even challenge the second ball.
Everyone slating Phillips today for his mistake need to have a look at the options in front of him. Lameiras offered nothing at all defensively and was like a pansy tippy toeing around the Burton winger like he was Messi and untouchable - no wonder Phillips didn't have any trust in him and was playing it backwards as he didn't have any options available at all in Lameiras attacking either.
Murphy should have been took off at half time. Isn't interested at all and for a winger to sit on the half way line when his middle players are trying to create chances advancing forwards is bizzare, you see so many players getting on his back for this as well yet it keeps happening and he thinks he's invisible.
Wingers as a whole were dreadful - they can't even beat the first player! I felt extremely sorry for Stokes today who had nothing available to him until Cole came on and was banged on at by fans and players for ages - if I was LB, I'd look inside too to Fleck who is comfortable rather than attacking options in murph/Lameiras would instantly loose the ball and I'd be on my back foot again.
Why we didn't bring O'Brien on today was a myth! Sitting 4 rows from the front you can hear the advice he gives to the back four and especially Phillips - Phillips looking a completely different player with o'brien in front of him who is an absolute work horse and isn't affraid to make a challenge. Bigi was poor.
Team for me should consist of.
(New Keeper)
(New RB)
Ricketts
Ramage
Stokes
Vince
Fleck
Cole
Maddison
O'Brien
Armstrong.
