Too weak in midfield in a game like this Burton sat back let us play pretty tip tap football but no drive where it matters, up front If Stephen Hunt was fit or anywhere near fit he should have started or the very least be on the bench same with Joe Cole, best player Tuesday in crap conditions should have started today for atleast the first hour, and leaving JOB on the bench when the chips were down another mistake, but we'll be back of that I'm certain but you have to play our best players

To be fair this forum feels indifferently about jim o brien until we lose then all of a sudden rate him .
I agree he should have started but the lineup was adequate enough to win the game , the 11 on the pitch lost that not Mowbray , we gave it them

He put Bigiamara on. According to you he's better than JOB isn't he?

At the minute, TM is a bit stuck with choices for fullbacks. Phillips is just not working, so I'll be over the moon when we get Lorentzson in there. Bit of experience, bit of drive, bit of awareness.

Burton are just a better team than us, they're full of confidence of team spirit.

Yup, too pretty for this league. Today was the triumph of endeavor over ability.

Not really , we dominated the stats , but 2 errors cost us , we beat them they beat us , didn't look a great side today even when we were playing below standards , Walsall far better than burton , their defence wins them games , not a lot else

I'm not the biggest JOB fan, he's okay but for me a bit wasteful but any game at 0-1 he's the guy to bring on because he rouses things up and annoys, as he did v Peterborough

They're a capable team, yes? So really, they managed to capitalise on two errors and stonewalled us in order to win. That's the difference between us and them, the unity and confidence to take their chances and shut up shop.

Even without playing well, they brushed us aside. It just highlights our shortcomings, if anything.

I thought a lot of our players looked below par today. . Maddison had a shot and not a lot else.. i love Maddison but at the minute i think we need more bite in midfield and tough out a few games so a battling performance /win then bring our luxury players on...Vincelot was Motm for me today

We were most certainly too weak and Lameiras' inclusion was a big mistake, but in saying that, that is what a lot of fans were calling for.

Today wasn't the game for him I don't think. Burton are strong, organised and muscular in their approach. At times they just took the ball off Lameiras like it was taking candy from a baby.

We were the best team though until the goal. Once that goal went in Burton looked in total control.

Before Phillips' error they hardly threatened at all.

It's true. Phillips mistake completely took the wind out our sales. We looked shellshocked after that. He is backed I know but Phillips is just not good enough. Stokes also has showed he's a CB not LB.

Worrying how we didn't seem to create much after we went behind. Creativity was none existent.

Would like to see us try and bag a left back and put Stokes back in the middle. He looks more natural and suited to that role.

Now you sound like the Crewe manager.

It was nil nil other than those pesky goals we conceded.

We were the better team though and second half we started really brightly and looked the more likely to score.

Phillips' mistake changed the game. After that Burton looked well in control.

Don't think Steve Davis said anything of the sort for that game compared to what I have said about our game. He said that the only difference pretty much was the 5 goals.

I am saying once we gave the goal away Burton looked in complete control.

Where is the association?

So man for man you'd swap our 11 for theirs?
The were disciplined, well organised and difficult to break down.

Think we always have errors in our team unfortunately. Fleck, Phillips the two keepers etc.

Burton didn't look like they were going to make an error but we always seem to have that in our make-up unfortunately.

A bit of a silly comment there Samo. There's a big difference between a good team and a good group of players. Today, Burton were the better team, with the right blend of ingredients - ability, strength, concentration, organisation, etc, and they executed the game plan to perfection. They are the better team, the league table confirms it - 6 more points than us in 2 less games.

That doesn't mean we don't have some better players than them - e.g. Armstrong, fleck and Cole to pick 3. But as a squad and a team we do lack some key attributes Burton do have.

I thought Murphy offered very little today, next to no movement off the ball in the first half. Stokes gave the ball away at least three times as he had to resort to trying to thread difficult balls through to his feet. All our best moves were down our right in the first half.

Came to life effort wise in the second half, but just didn't look like he had the beating of anyone.

He is no dribbler and very one footed. If he can't get one on one to push it into about eight yards of space and run onto it using his pace he seems void of ideas and confidence.

I have seen a lot of him now and he is starting to look very one dimensional in certain games. I know he is only 18, but I think he could do with a couple of games out now. Hopefully the arrival of Hunt will give us another option.

Jacob Murphy is 20, not 18

One of the little things that irks me about Murphy is when Stokes or whoever is left back has the ball. Just watch him next time he plays.

Stokes receives the ball out on the left flank with the ball in our half and Murphy nearly always stands about 20 yards away from him waiting for a through ball. He never ever comes for the short pass, to give Stokes more opportunity to get the ball to him.
Stokes will receive the ball and either he tries to force a longer pass through, which rarely comes off, or he has to pass it backwards or sideways.

So why doesn't Stokes run toward him to reduce the distance? Maybe Murphy is under instructions not to run backwards?

I can understand the frustration with Murphy as he can appear to blow hot and cold. As mentioned many times before if he wasn't inconsistent he wouldn't be playing league one. One thing I definitely don't understand is calling him 'very one footed' is an outright lie. If you'd watched any significant smount of games this season you would know he fancies his chances on either foot. Just for example, the two goals below...

I have said in another post that I have yet to see Murphy play well... there are a few flashes but then nothing at first I thought it was a fitness issue but now it seems that is him either good or really crap...to be fair Theo Walcott disappears from games at times so maybe we just expect too much from our players if he was playing for another team against us would we be saying ...we could do with someone like him? Wouldn't mind Sawyers and Rico though

Personally i think the chap who said we were beaten by a better team is wrong. Burton looked hugely inferior to walsall and just kept smashing the ball up the pitch. We were off the pace Saturday but still were the better team up until Phillips mistake who by the way is no where near good enough for this level of football. We got punished for two dreadful pieces of defending and that was the difference between the two sides. In fairness to burton though they are very well organised but they are not a better team than us. Only team i've seen this season who are as good as us was Walsall.

Walsall are the better team to my mind too, but as you say, Burton were very well drilled and organised.

Not pretty to watch bit effective. Can they keep it up all season, I'm not so sure, but I can't see them tailing off too much, so if we were to make the play-offs I can see them being there too and to be honest, I wouldn't want to come across them again.

So difficult to break down and I could see us coming off second best once more if we were pitched against them.

According to Clough Burton were not at their best compared to recent games, especially in the first half. Said they were too nervous. I think their record speaks for itself this season. Have a habit of destroying unbeaten home records.

They're a very close-knit, efficient unit aren't they; a testament to what it takes to get out of this League. Nothing flashy, nothing spectacular, just sheer determination and confidence.

If they don't get auto-promotion, I'd be astonished.
