Agreed didn't have a good game at all. But too many players had a bad game.

Certain players like Murphy deserve some patience at timesand have earned the right to have a bad game or two as he's proved to be matchwinner.

And was better than murphy yesterday.

coincidently both murphy and lameries suffer from the same thing, they are not willing to put a strong tackle in... They pull out everytime, so frustrating !!!
They are unable to put strong tackles in. They are simply not that type of player.

Did you ever see Michael Owen putting strong tackles in, or Glenn Hoddle? Tommy Hutchison?

We can't expect them to be complete players, but we do need them to excel at the things they ARE good at.

Right, but when we are under the cosh we need to defend from the front with all players making some form of contribution. I'm not necessarily saying strong tackles, but at least look interested. If Murphy isn't prepared to put a tackle in, and I really don't buy the idea that he doesn't tackle because he can't, then already you've lost some ground.

If you are a professional footballer and you don't have the ability to even challenge a 50/50 then you shouldn't be playing. That goes for every player on the pitch.

If we want promotion this season everyone needs to give it 100% at all times. I don't feel I even saw 50% of that from Murphy yesterday.

Don't think I ever saw Tommy Hutchison put a tackle in.

Murphy is not a 50/50 challenge type of player. If he went in for 50/50 he would probably end up injured.

Lamaries was far worse. Far worse.

No he wasn't.

Lameiras was unlucky not to see more of the ball in the first half. There were almost half a dozen opportunities where he could've been played in behind the full back only for anyone of our players to play the ball inside.

Thing is weeman, we can't give him credit for stuff he didn't do.

I thought Lameiras was worse than Murphy too.

There was a couple of times at least where slack passing from Lameiras lead to dangerous breakaways for Burton.

He showed a bit of trickery, but then he was easily out-muscled, kept losing the ball and his distribution was poor too.

Really thought he should have been removed at half-time.

Fair points Otis but myself, I won't castigate a player (not that you have) if I feel he didn't have a great game because others didn't take the right options with him. That's all.

Had there been a few more balls over the LBs head and released him, today's chat about Rubén would've been different.

Solely on yesterday, the lad didn't have as bad a game as some are making out.

Its crazy the crap he is getting. Over the course of the season he has been, so far, one of our better players. Yes we want him to do what we know he can do all the time but if he did he would be in the Norwich 1st team. Wingers will drfit in and out of games all the time.

That's just it though he doesn't drift in and out. You get a 15 minute spell on a good day. I get the impression teams have learnt how to play him. Put a midfielder on him and get the fullback to cover behind.

It is where him Maddison and Lamieras need to swap round occasionally. Just to keep the opposition thinking about who should I be picking up.

this!

I'm actually a fan of this lad and think he has big potential... But there is a different between knocking someone because we lost, and raising a valid point about a player. If things he does badly aren't pointed out to the lad then how will he improve.

So those saying we are being too harsh I don't think we are, we just know he can do better.... Because he has proved he can!!

that just looked like a half hearted display yesterday. Maybe he too - like some have said about lamereis - is a warm August day type of player. And the last couple matches in the cold & rain just haven't suited him. I know I turn up for work some days and just can't be arsed & skive my way rough the day... Difference is , I don't have 17000 people watching my performance, having paid their hard earned for the pleasure ;)

When we are at our best the team thrives on quick ,one touch passing with plenty of running off the ball. Murphy ,although a descent player , is non of these . I would like to see perhaps a first half without him and then if a change of tack is needed he could be a major asset running against tired legs.

There may be an issue with the loan if he doesn't receive enough game time.
Having said that though it is a season long loan so we should be able to utilise him as we see fit.

I still say he is carrying an injury and TM will not pull him until Hunt is up and ready

We lacked urgency and drive yesterday as part of the'offensive' part of the team criticism will be levelled his way also Maddison and Lameiras... they had urgency yesterday ... Murphy seemed to just cruise his way thro a game of football... TM needs to say to him buck your ideas up when you're not on the ball give me something more to enable me to keep you in the team or be prepared to start gathering splinters

The stick Murphy gets from stands seems unjustified. Yesterday all I could hear from up in the stands...Murphy this Murphy that!

It was tough and I had to bite my tongue at times as I wanted to slag him off too but didn't.

I remember slagging him off first half vs Peterborough. Then second half the way skinned their right back, and delivered that ball into AA path is memory I won't ever forget for the equaliser.

Murphys constant this season seems to be have an average game then a good game. He shut me up by doing the business in a subsequent match and I'm sure the same peeps slagging him off now will be the ones clapping and cheering him next match.

I for one feel very happy he's in our squad than anyone's else's in league one.

Lets support and encourage our players instead of ripping them apart.

Passenger is absurd. Lamaries is never going to make it as a professional, Phillips was diabolical, Bigiamara is Ray Wilkins but worse but yeah let's call him lazy - I wonder why.

Lameiras is never gonna make it as a professional footballer is a hilarious statement even by your standards

people need to remember he's still only 20..... Against Walsall he was good up to around 75 mins then looked burnt out and to me hes probably played alot of football this season, more than any other season hes played in! IMO i wouldn't have started him saturday, we needed abit of experience so JOB would have started for me and probably cole instead of Ruben. Tinkering is fine, but we do need to remember the lads are young. TM needs to learn when to rest them so the tinkering works to our advantage, not the tinkering where we have a strong side out but not our best side! We are all still learning and i am sure in the coming weeks TM will sort it and Murphy will fit in just fine!

In response to the other thread that just got closed:

A poster made a point that teams are putting 2 or 3 players on him, but I think that as much as that might be said for. Teams are also looking out for Armstrong, and Maddison, and trying to outwit our defence. We can't be being tactically outhought on this kind of level can we? They can double up on one player if they want, and in theory it should leave gaps elsewhere, but Burton (the example I'm using) just wanted it more than us at the end of the day.

It is his fault that he mostly refuses to pass, and it is his fault that he can't be bothered to play competitive football by even putting a tackle in or tracking back (Stokes has been left on his arse many times when Murphy is in front of him). My thoughts are echoed earlier in the thread, but I'm really not pleased with his attitude at the moment. You could tell just looking at him on Saturday that he thought he was above having to put a shift in.

I think he needs a rest in all honesty, and let some of the other guys have a go. On his day he can be a very useful player, but I agree with the original poster in that he plays for himself a lot of the time. Earlier in the season our best football and most penetrating was quick passing and movement away from the ball. Murphy doesn't contribute to this.

Couldnt agree more, he has no defensive work rate, leaves the LB exposed frequently. Tries to win penalties, loses the ball and throws his toys out the pram while the others are defending clearing up the mess. When he loses it wide he just flails his arms around and expects to be given it back to have another go.

Another point made earlier was that we dont look a "team" around him which is a good point. I feel he plays for himself too much, always wants the goal and doesnt think about the pass enough. Yes its great watching him skin players but he so often gets in a position to play the killer ball accross the 6 yard line for any other player awaiting a tap in, but tries the tight angle wondergoal which never comes off.

Dont get me wrong hes a great player to have in the team and does score and very occasionally creates a chance for someone else (although this is where he needs to improve drastically) but hopefully this new lad and Ruben need to have more time down that left wing. Murphy was blowing after 60mins against Walsall and all but gave up, thats where Ruben and others should be coming on to replace him with fresh legs. And vice versa, why not use him as the power-sub a few times. A tired defence from JOB, Madders and Arma running at them, then bring him on to glide past them with fresh energy.

Murphy hasnt played too well over the last 2 but that doesnt mean he is a bad player, you only have to look at some of his performances to demonstrate he has talent. Gillingham jumps to mind to show what he is capable of.

I dont think there was many players who shone out in these two games, i suppose Vince and Fleck were working hard like Armstrong but no-one was 'carrying the team'. I hear alot about him not chasing passes that were not coming to him but then you have to question the quality of the pass if it cannot make it to his feet! Too many of our players have gone missing over the last two games and we need to ask why but gunning people down as individual isnt the right way to go about it.

I agree he didn't play too well against Walsall or Burton but his presence occupied a couple of their defenders all the time also a couple of times I thought Fleck had the chance to slip the ball wide for him but chose not to. He is bloody dangerous and I'd think opposition discuss how to deal with him all the time, I love wingers but they can infuriate you and seem lazy given the right service they won games
