Bigi... (17 Viewers)

There's such small margins for error in passing the ball from the back. Further up the pitch I think would much more suit him.

Who would he replace - job, Murphy, Maddison?

As I said on another thread, I just can't see how he would fit in anywhere for us.

Which raises the question - why sign him. The cynic in me suggests it was perhaps encouraged so we could retain Armstrong.

Well yep, tend to agree. In my book Bigi ain't no defensive midfielder.

I really can't see what role he can fill. If I remember rightly, last time he was here didn't we end up playing him wide midfield?

I think we all got excited see what he leanered from going to newcastle and could add more in midfield but looks like just hasnt cut it really hopefully TM sees that and will just use him as a back up and start using rose more.

...unless he's better than Rose.

Yeah the solution of using Rose kind of confuses me as he is a complete unknown quantity. I'm not saying don't give him a go but others have suggested 'Why is Bigi getting in over Rose?' and unless there are some MLS experts who know exactly what he is like, isn't it just all hopeful speculation?

Rose confuses me because his game on the face of it just doesn't suit the way we play. Would be very surprised to see TM pick Vincelot and Fleck and Rose in the same team.

Rose is a box to box midfielder, so not the DM Vincelot is and not the sitting playmaker Fleck is. Get the feeling if Rose played it would have to be alongside both the other two.

Can only see Rose playing if we change our game plan.

This was my thought exactly. Might be used more if we were to go 4-4-2. I have no idea on the guy other than what I have read on here but it doesn't sound much like he's a deep-lying playmaker so either way it doesn't really resolve replacing the Fleck role.

Bigi doesn't fit in out team for me. He's not been very good for us yet, little attacking impetus and like Otis has said he worries me playing in such a crucial role in front of the back 4.
Our back 4 are fragile, we need strength in front of them, which Fleck and Vince provide. Lose either of them for Bigi and we become really lightweight. He doesn't make the tackle very often and just doesn't give anything to the team.

Maybe best to think of him as a wide option occasionally, fresh legs on the wing in the last half hour, but shouldn't be starting IMO especially as a holding mid.

That might not be a bad thing Otis.

The current game plan hasn't really been working of late, and whilst I disagree with the comments that suggest other teams have worked us out and stop us playing, because in theory we should be able to adopt our own tactics to counteract that, maybe a shake up is what's needed.

Throw Rose, Fleck, And Vincelot alongside JOB and one other in a five man midfield and it could breathe a bit of life into us.

How would you work that then? I would think Maddison would be a no-brainer to be starting so would you send him or rose out wide? JOB on the right, who would play central infront of Fleck and Vince?

Back towards Bigi a bit though, I'd have thought Cole could be a much better replacement at holding mid than Bigi? Reads the game better, can play any forward ball all day long, more composed and I'd be a lot more comfortable seeing him protecting the defence.

I don't think he has the legs though, if he gets beaten he can't chase them.

But then saying that, neither has Pirlo (Not saying Cole is as good as Pirlo!!)

I'd be more inclined to play a more narrow formation and the front attacking three rotating with a bit more attacking support from either Vincelot or Fleck at any one time, I might even completely embarrass myself and suggest we play three at the back with a busy midfield, but that's probably not realistic with the players we have.

I have to admit I'm not certain on what Rose offers (I don't think anyone does), but if he's a high energy positive thinking player I'd shove him in the team and mix it up a little bit. I certainly don't think Bigi is actually good enough to be in the team at all to be honest, and it boils down to that for me more than anything else. I think wingers have been one of the weakest outlets this season (apart from the defence down to injuries recently). So rather than have a greedy player that can't pass very well, let's cram the midfield and get a bit of Ticka Tacka in there and see what happens.

Very ambitious formation, probably stupid in fact, but if we were to stay with the squad we have at the moment then I feel as if there's too many players under preforming at the moment, and we shouldn't incorporate them into the team for no reason.

The way the squad is building it points to a change in formation firstly we need another striker imo and it seems most opinions he'll want to play regularly, then there's Armstrong how can he be left out ? and McClaren won't keep him here if he's sub for too long. Then we need to supply them, a winger ! Murphy ? or newbie and then a strong midfield Fleck, Vincelot and then anyone from Cole, Rose, Hunt, JOB, Bigi, Maddison anyone else ? Who would be a manager ?

Rose I thought was very good, and for me the one highlight. He offered urgency, covers and eats up the grass well, decent on the ball, and looks strong.

He has more attributes than Bigi.

Rose had a good half and suddenly it's the second coming of Jesus. You're all deluded - Bigi is leagues above everyone else we've got

Bigi remove yourself from any free kick situations with immediate effect.

I think removal from the squad would be the best solution

Yeah, I don't get why he always fights to try and take them. The one in the first few minutes was awful, I can safely say I could have done better with my wrong foot.

He just needs to go out on loan but can we afford to do that in our precarious position.

I think we did well to get the money we did for him when Newcastle signed him.

Now Newcastle are punishing us by saying we must keep him for the season with no recall...

If you don't...Armstrong stays in Newcastle!

There was a player in there somewhere.

He wasn't good enough for the move he made.

He suffered from lack of playing time and now looks worse.

Can we afford to carry him, or anyone, for that matter? No.
