Sam Ricketts (3 Viewers)

Just wondering if he needs a rest, or is maybe carrying a knock.

There's forever been talk of being careful with Joe Cole and not playing every week etc., but I think we sometimes forget that Sam Ricketts is 34 too and he has played nearly every game for us this season.

He was as steady as a rock earlier on in the season, but lately has seemed more sluggish and is making lots of little errors.

Just wondering if he is playing because needs must. He is either seemingly very tired, or carrying an injury.

Asking a 34 year old to play practically every game of the season is a massive ask.

Thoughts?

Could be carrying a knock, or perhaps he has no confidence in his current CB partner? Or, a bit of both.

Did he look at all suspect with Turner or even Stokes at his side?

Definitely declined In performance since the start of the season, probably doesn't help alternating between CB & RB every week & have a different partner at CB each time.

But no room to drop or rest him at the minute, Ramage is a far bigger concern for me, if you can't really play football playing CB at least be a ball winning oaf, struggles to do that from what I've seen he's really not the answer to our CB woes!

I think there are alot of them that could do with a rest out of the team and some new players brought in before we blow our chance

I think Cole needs far too much rest. I think it has disrupted the continuity of the midfield too much and we have seen little reward for it. I have read he commutes from Essex everyday driven by his father in law, a 200 mile round trip. Those sort of arrangements never seem to work.

For me the addition of Cole has dampened the fire rather than ignited it.

Why doesn't Cole drive? :S

Driving 100 miles up the motorway and back is pretty tiring, I imagine that's why he doesn't drive himself to training and back.

His performance levels have dropped dramatically. Ever since he has had to be the lead man of our patched up defence cracks are developing in his game. He's slow at making a pass, making it obvious to what ball he's gonna play. His cool calm composed game has long gone. Forever found wanting and looses him man and often too easy. Square peg in a round hole but should do better leading by example. Set the standard to what is expected not sink to what's around you. Can we afford to drop him tho.... Not on current available squad. Needs to up his game and in his role as a captain of his team!

I don't think 'Peter Ramage' is the answer to any question to be honest, unless it's 'What's old, slower than a tortoise and gets fans on the edge of their seats for all the wrong reasons?'

Could well be right, didn't go today so can't comment but on the last few (especially Southend)looked well off the pace.
But right now if he rest's him, you're gonna have to play.

You don't usually rest your captain though anyway do you.

At 34 it's a hard ask to expect him to last a whole season.

Lasting the season in a settled well organised back 4,he would find easy.As part of the back-line shambles we find ourselves with. Not so much

Having watched back the highlights from today's game it highlights just how poor he was, left his man for there first goal. Had no awareness to who was around him. Could of prevented the corner in the first place if I recall. Ball came off Lorentzsons back after he was shoved, Ricketts could of prevented the ball from going out as it had no real pace on it. On the build up to there second corner bishops sliced shot fell kindly for the scunny player to reach, Williams was in loads of space waiting for the tap in as Ricketts stood in a day dream. Again let his man go! Thankfully ramage did his only good act of the game to slide in to clear to prevent the tap in.

Ricketts is a liability I'm afraid. Ramage is worse.

Mogga needs to sort this out. We don't want this season turning into a failure after the high expectations set.

Thought he was back to his impressive best today just love the way he makes dummy's of the opposition forwards. He was the only defender today providing the attacking intent to drive the team forward.

He's one of my favourite players during the season. Ok you could argue he was at fault for the second goal as he was marking their striker. But that apart he had a good solid game.

He is not the problem but is exposed when not playing next to a lump like reda or turner. For years I wanted us to be more cultured and play it from the back but now I miss a big lump to stick his head in the mixer at both ends all the best partnerships (like ferdinando and vidic or even peake and killer) have one of each. Mowbray needs to address it soon or those I am berating that are calling for his head will soon gather momentum.

But he was very much at fault for the first goal too. That was HIS man and he just ambled out of the 6 yard box, so he was directly at fault for both goals. Can't see how that equates to a good soild game.

I really rate the bloke and he has been brilliant for us, but lately he just hasn't been the same player.
