Wtf ...booing him?

in fact may see the best of him now he is free, and hasn't got all this speculation hanging over him.

he can just buckle down now and give his all for home town club and get us promotion.

I'm not going to, but after his statement I wouldnt be surprised to see some of our fans giving him some stick unfortunately.

Maddison: 'Delighted to sign for a club of the size of Norwich'

Maddison said: “I’ve been working hard towards achieving this goal and I’m delighted to be signing for a club the size and stature of Norwich.
“They are a club moving in the right direction and I’m looking forward to progressing my career there after finishing this season at Coventry.”

Is it me, or is that a bit of a cunty thing to say? Almost a slight dig at us?

How times change. Two months ago we were flying, playing some of the best football I've ever seen, for the first time in years being a city fan felt great. Now we're still 5th but losing, stopped scoring, playing shit football and sold our one shining light. We deserve some luck soon, if we don't get up this season I really fear for us.

Moan moan moan...when you don't even know what the deal is!!! Next few days could be very enlightening, and I don't expect TM and his team to let us down!

Yep, let's at least let the dust settle and see what is said in the morning.

Jumping the gun a bit at the moment probably without the full facts.

Ivor Lawton wouldn't have left us like this. Truth is, James it just a prick. He's not a fan at all. If I'm brutally honest, I hope he fades out of the game faster than frimpong.
On the bright side, we have fortune and Ramage.

Fuck off I'm perfectly entitled to moan as I've watched shit for so many years and until we have some genuine success to prove otherwise I'll post it as I see it.

Our bad run has coincided with his return (not that they're necessarily related) but to a certain degree we lose tempo when he plays

If we got 5,6,7 million for him would it be wise to come out and say because the first time we bid on a player we would be held to ransom

Let's see what is said first. At the moment a lot if it is conjecture (amount etc.)

I want to hear what TM has to say and what the club have to say and also if there is some other deals we are not aware of yet.

If it's 2 million with add-ons (and right now it appears that way), this deal has a worrying Callum Wilson-esque vibe about it. All that's missing is a few crap makeweight loans.

He had to be sold to pay for the wages of the new recruits is my guess.

He is still very unproven, yes he does some good skills and turns. I can't see the outrage though. I am struggling, it just seems like another good excuse for people not to go to games and shout about SISU.

Come on Nick, this deal must have been agreed days ago, personal terms to discuss and agree etc. We could have done so much with some of that money in the transfer window. I know there is still a possibility of free agents coming in but I get the feeling we have been taken for fools again

Sky Blues manager insists only scenario he'd agree to would be a sell for silly money and loan back deal

Coventry City's James Maddison scores the winning goal for the Sky Blues
Tony Mowbray has urged Coventry City owner Joy Seppala not to sell prime asset James Maddison any time soon.

The talented midfielder, who is under contract with the Sky Blues until June 2018, has been the subject of renewed speculation linking him with Premier League clubs – Liverpool and Arsenal reportedly ready to make a move next summer, if not in the January transfer window.

The suggestion is that he could be worth as much as £10million based on the sale of MK Dons’ Dele Alli to Tottenham in last year’s mid-term window for an initial £5m with numerous add-ons that would push the figure significantly higher.

He was immediately loaned back to the Dons for the remainder of the season and helped them gain automatic promotion. And that is the only deal that Mowbray would entertain if the price was such that the club couldn’t turn it down.

“Here we have a 19-year-old who they might think they can nick off a club who, to the outside world, doesn’t have much money, doesn’t own a stadium, has to loan in players, hasn’t got much of a squad,” said the City boss.

“Well, I’d have to say I think the owner is pretty resolved about the situation – I’ve told her what an asset she has got.

“James has played 14 games... in League One! Maybe that’s why teams think they can nick a talented young boy.

“My advice has always been to James to let his career develop where he’s going to play every week and where he’s appreciated; let his talent flourish.

“What’s the rush at 18/19 if he’s talented enough? Even at 20 in two years time he might have played 100-odd games for us so, for me, he has to let his talent flourish.

“The only scenario I could see for James Maddison is for someone to pay us the right amount of money and we get him back for two years on loan and invest the money.

"And yet, in an ideal world, he just stays here and plays football for the team. He wears the Sky Blues’ shirt, scores some goals and creates some stuff for the team and grows.

“If you sell James Maddison now for X amount of pounds, in two years time he might be worth ten times that amount. So it would be more frugal for me to keep him and let him play, let him enjoy his football and understand that some big clubs are only trying to nick him.”

Maddison need only look as far as fellow Academy graduates Conor Thomas and Gael Bigirimana – both of whom had failed big money moves to the Premier League with Liverpool and Newcastle respectively – to see that leaving too soon can have a detrimental affect on a career.

“James is clever enough to understand that if this club decided they were going to sell him he’s not going to go and play for Liverpool or Arsenal now,” said Mowbray.

“Why wouldn’t he want to play and enjoy his football here? He’s only played 14 or 15 games in his career, in his life, so my advice to him and the football club is to put all that behind you.

“Let people write what they write in newspapers and just enjoy playing your football and concentrate on the place where people appreciate your talent and want you to grow.”

He added: “There are lots of things in the equation. It’s not just the boy, there’s the boy’s family, his agent, the club’s mentality on it, the owner’s mentality on it. He’s under contract so we don’t need to do anything.

“And yet you are always conscious of contracts and the fact that they can be run down. I can only advise the ownership and at this moment in time the best thing for James Maddison is to get himself fit and get a starting position in this team because at this moment he’s not guaranteed a starting place because he’s been injured for three or four months.

“That’s why these clubs are, potentially, trying to nick him. If there comes a time somewhere down the line and he’s lighting the league up and the best player in the league and everyone knows that, then the price will dictate that and, ultimately, somewhere along the line all parties will have to agree. But at this moment I think it’s very unlikely that we’ll be selling James Maddison.”

What is the silly money that allowed this then. As if it wasn't agreed by Mowbray I see him walking. He doesn't need this nonsense we are used to. If Mowbray defends the deal, there's more to it than we can see now

I don't see us losing tempo, I think the bad run is more connected to turner getting injured and teams having watched the shelf utd gameplan of how to bully us out of games. Maddison imo is one of the most talented players we have seen at city. I rarely go overboard, in fact the reverse when there was hype on here over Connor Thomas, bigi, Gunnarson Dann and Fox. I genuinely believe this lad is special. If I'm honest I felt the same about Westwood who I thought would go on to be a great keeper and has done OK but been average realky, can't always get it right, but I see maddison going right to the top.

Not sure if TM will see 2 million as nicking the player or as the crazy price it's worth selling for.
He wanted a crazy price and a 2 year loan back.
Let's hope he gets to use the money on wages of future Loanees who take us to the top.
Hope Maddison hasn't made a mistake and gets loaned out again next season to the championship and hopefully us.

If you think we had a budget of £2million for this season then its doubled our budget if we see any of it

I can’t believe the philosophical reaction of so many posters.

The shitfest of the last few years has hardened me to most things about CCFC, and the ups and downs don’t affect me anything like they used to. But for me, this ranks alongside the sales of Dennis Mortimer and Robbie Keane on the upset-o-meter. Of course I’m not saying he’s as good as those players at this stage, but it’s very hard to accept the loss of such a shining young local talent, without even the compensation of thinking that he has been plundered by a massive club.

The whole “undisclosed” thing pisses me off. IMO the kid will go on to be worth an absolutely huge amount of money, so I can only hope that we’ve tapped into that future worth. Why am I not confident in that? I don’t actually believe the £2 million thing – if that turned out to be true I would find it unforgiveable.

I’m hoping for (but not expecting) a good side to this deal when we find out more.

£2 million from a team that is presumably budgeting with Championship football in the back of their minds doesn't strike me as the kind of offer that you can't afford to turn down. It sounds like the least worst offer still on the table when the clock struck midnight. Either we wildly overestimated how much other teams were prepared to pay, mismanaged the auction, or we need the money more urgently than us fans thought. Possibly a combo of all three.
