The fee (2 Viewers)

Norwich have bought him as potential rather than the finished article (they even said so in tweets), therefore comparisons with some of the genuine finished articles that Southampton sold are invalid.
Is £2.5m + really that low for somebody who has played 20 games in the third tier but has a negligible return in goals and assists?
Would he be worth more at the end of the season? Who knows? He's regressed in the last few games but suspect the move is on his mind.

In the here and now, the fee is 'fair'. It smacks of jumping a little early, however.

(Inclidentally Pennant, and even Walcott, were sold before they'd done much in terms of league appearances, and were sold for far more. That said, Arsenal did used to overpay for young British potential, and Arsenal clearly weren't an option here)

Pennant was £2m.

Has Maddison played for England at youth level?

For me we all had JM to leave at some point as none of us are stupid but my issue is the fee. Crowds have been bigger and things good well so don't understand the rush and need to sell a guy with unlimited potential and not even had a full season yet.

2 million is silly or maybe 3 million we now are told. Who knows? He was still sold way too early. 5 million plus was a minimum. Unrealistic? not really. He has a long contract with us and played not many games. It's obvious he is that good.

As for JM apart from the money this isn't a good move for him football wise. Will he start at Norwich in the PL? No. Will he go into the abyss? Probably. Too many examples. Less players make it then actually go on to make it. Look at bigi as the prime example. 5 years on look where he is. At the same club in a lower league to when he left. If he has stayed championship level until now he may have been ready.

Maddison will go to the PL and be out of his depth. No doubts. He was kicked out of the match by fucking scunthorpe Saturday. Didn't get a look in. What chance has he got at 19 in the PL? Probably a good 3-4 years away from the PL.

Money talks and when his wages have probably quadrupled then he will go. Bigi was the same. They earn the money and not playing then they realize this ain't for me.

I'm also assuming we now hope Norwich stay in the PL so we get an add on?

Maybe that's the basis for a potentially shrewd business decision.
What if he stayed with us, he didn't have a productive second half of the season and got kicked off the field every game then people could become wise to the fact he might not make it. Then we don't get any money for him and it all becomes a non-event.

Looks like we have been given £2-2.5m for him now, and if he does make it there seems to be a clause to increase to £3.5m.
From a business decision, given £2.5 now regardless of if he makes it big, with a possible extra £1m OR the possibility £5m next year or nothing at all if it doesn't work out for him in the coming months. That's a sizeable risk to take when there £2-2.5million on the table in front of you.

OK, maybe I should have clarified then that £2mil for a 15yo pre the super-inflation we get now, wasn't bad.

What the Maddison deal does show up is the gulf between the haves and the have-nots, that those clubs away from the Premiership gravy train are open to being squeezed by those self-same clubs... as they're not on the same ballpark financially.

In danger of becoming a circular path.

It's the timing that concerns me. Says to me that Cov need the money. Otherwise could and probably should have waited till the summer. Maybe the club realise promotion isn't guaranteed and this is purely for the budget as a L1 club again next season. Did mowbary have much say? Probably not which is also a concern
