Rose and Vincelot (3 Viewers)

If these two can gel quickly in midfield it could turn our fortunes around and get us back to winning ways. I think they will give us a physicality and determination that could tear through midfields and run fear into defences.

Can't wait to see them play together myself.

I get what you are saying, but think Fleck needs to be in there for his passing. Haven't thought about how you accommodate all 3. Just emphasises the amount of midfielders we have in contention. Cole, Maddison, O'Brien, Lameiras all offer us something, although some of these seem better suited to big / good quality pitches (perhaps we are saving them for the Wembley play off final?!) :D

Have to play Fleck. Our most important player and our player of the season.

Fleck was useless today. Liability but we need him in the side for the passing. We miss the link between defence and Armstrong when hes missing

It's pretty pathetic, one of the most basic skills in the sport of football - passing, and we have only one player who is any good at it.

Fleck is annoying, because he lacks consistency! He can be great one week and just fade into obscurity the next.

To do well we need consistent performances from key players. You can accommodate one or two who are inconsistent, Murphy being a very good case in point. He can be very inconsistent, but can also be key to the team because he can change a game in an instant. You simply can't though have too many players like that in your side.

Vincelot is a player who plays at a pretty consistent level every week. I like Fleck, but sometimes he is up and down like yo-yo.

I think this is part of our problem. The likes of Stokes and Vincelot and Armstrong seem to put in pretty consistent performances every week, as was, Martin, but Fleck, Maddison and Murphy don't. Phillips never did either and then you can add to that Ricketts too, who was very consistent earlier in the campaign, but lately has been rather error-riddled in his performances.

We need 7's every week from the Fleck's and the Vincelot's and the Ricketts' and the Stokes' of this squad and then from such as JOB, Cole or Hunt.

If you can have 5 or 6 of your team putting in 7 out of 10 efforts week in week out, with one or two putting in 8's, you're going to give yourself a much better chance of winning games.

I like Fleck and JOB, but they have both been inconsistent this season. Phillips was a bit all over the place and now Ricketts has lost his consistency too.

When it's not going so well for you, you need to battle and try and make your mark in showing spirit and determination, bottle and fight.

Fleck disappears too much for me. I think when you analyse him carefully he more often than not has one brilliant half in a game and then a second 45 where he either disappears or fades.

Aren't there stats around somewhere that marks consistency ratings!?

Seemingly, Burton have been steadily ticking along putting in decent performs week after week after week.

I watched virtually every game during our two promotion winning seasons when we were champions both times. Yes, it was a long time ago and no doubt the game was very different. But I can honestly say the team did not have a single weakness and every player gave 100% every game. The team virtually picked itself every week and we had a very good reserve side to supply players in case of injuries - which were very few. I'm not seeing that our current team is anywhere near promotion material. Even with the new additions, there are just too many weaknesses. I'm also not convinced that Mowbray is as good as we thought he was.

Really impressed with Rose and I think there's more to come. For me, he has to start Saturday.

Looking forward to seeing more of Rose, when he came on against Scunthorpe he seemed to be stuck out wide. Heard good things about him making a difference yesterday!

Same with the 2 loan lads.

Read some of the stuff online from when he was at Celtic
I think there is a reason he is managing in the 3rd division

just like many of the Messiahs we have had - when things are going well all is fine - it is stopping the rot - and all of our past managers have gone on long runs without a win (and Mowbray now only has 2 in 12)

Not saying he is poor - just saying he is also not the Messiah

Can't disagree with any of that Otis. Tying in with another thread, I think the inconsistency partly stems from an unsettled side. Making a number of changes every week upsets the dynamic of the side and doesn't allow players to settle into a 'team'. Injuries have played a big part in that to be fair but do any of us really know our best starting 11?

Consistency hasn't been good enough, but that will also come with the number of changes to the side we have experienced.

There some element of TM changing things very often but we have also had a lot of forced changes, suspensions to Fleck and Vince, injuries plaguing the back 4, Arma and Murphy out for a week recently too. I reckon if we can settle down and play a more consistent starting side then some of the nerves will dissipate as they settle into roles and who is around them. Hopefully breeding some more consistency.

Might be wishful thinking but the eternal optimism of the sky blues fan in me keeps on believing we can push on again. Automatics? Unlikely. Wembley? Just maybe, we need a day out!

There will always be a certain amount of inconsistency at this level. After all if the players were consistently good they wouldn't be in L1! The problem is when one or two of our players have a dip in form the whole system seems to fall apart rather than other players picking up the slack.
