On Football Focus on Saturday they were talking about Sturridge and his injuries. He has had 18 separate injuries just this season, and Mark Lawrenson said he's probably out now with a twisted sock !Dion Dublin commented that every player in any division plays with some sort of injury, but you just have to sometimes carry on and put it to the back of your mind.Someone also said of Sturridge that he has the heart of a pea,so in other words he is a bit of a softy who would rather pick up his £ 150,000 a week than play football for his living ? No wonder Liverpool fans staged a walk out over pricing !

There is a cracking conspiracy theory going round that he's not injured anymore, but won't play as he's found God.

18 different injuries?? That is shocking.
Yes Nick they said his latest one was in training recently.Lawro was giving him lots of stick, saying he should man up a bit more etc. He may be after a transfer but as he's now 26 years old he needs to be playing more before his career passes him by.

I know he was as hard as nails but our own George Curtis broke his leg at Forest but was back playing in just a couple of months. Sturridge would be out a whole season with that !

Here you go.

Who needs a flat earth theory, eh.

If that s true then you have to feel really sorry for him. It could be a case of him having too much too soon and it getting on top of him.

Too many holes for it to be true you'd think.

But...

"It’s common to find Sturridge using the hashtags #godislove and #godisgood after a Liverpool victory. When he reached a half-century of top flight goals at the beginning of February, the striker tweeted: “Thanks to God for allowing me to score 50 prem goals.” And after winning a Barclays Player of the Month award back in September: “I do all trough (sic) Christ who strengthens me.”"

And increased criticism through the media, as the OP evidences...

Like I said, too many holes really (keeping it quiet for so long would be some achievement in the modern age!), but it'd be a superb story in its own way!

A lot of sportsmen and women are Christians and play their sports,so I don't believe for a minute that is behind him not playing much.As for his obscene wages that would be called in biblical terms as filthy lucre ?

I thought Cristiano Ronaldo was God. At least he thinks he is.

I feel bad for Sturridge, I'm sure he doesn't want to be injured and it seems to be open season on Sturridge at the moment with everyone having a pop at him through the media saying he doesn't want to play, without giving him a chance to defend himself.

The Christian he's playing next to tonight isn't very good on crosses and couldn’t hit a stable door.

Good Lord. How can we be talking about this without mentioning the old "Jesus Saves! But Keegan scores the rebound...."

I'm disappointed in you all. :)

No problem with the fella's religion - whatever floats your boat, imho. I suspect that he's just a bit knackered physically. He's probably been overtraining and stressing his body since he was seven.

He wouldn't be the first footballer to quit because of injury in his twenties, but I wouldn't wish that on anyone in truth.

Would this be the same Dion Dublin that refused to play for us in case he got injured before his big money move, perhaps? ;)

I'm just hoping he's saving himself for the Euros. A fully fit Sturridge to go with Kane and Vardy would do a job in France.

I'd take 5. Rooney, Vardy, Kane, Walcott and either Defoe or Sturridge. If I had to choose now it would be Defoe. The squad next month should be the one we take to the Euros, barring any injuries.

Hmm Defoe is a good shout tbh. I'd take Rooney but I wouldn't start him. I'd go with the youngsters. Alli, Barkley and Kane all to start I'd say.

With advances in sports science, a load of paunchy ex-pros screaming 'man up' ought to be consigned to the bin.

I would be shocked if he took 5 attackers as he will take loads of defenders and midfielders

Theo would be a two way. As it stands now my team would be:

Hart

Clyne/Walker Smalling Stones Bertrand/Rose
Barkley Alli Henderson
Rooney
Kane Vardy

Subs:
Butland, Forster
Jones/Cahill
Dier, Milner, Albrighton, Drinkwater, Carrick
Walcott
Defoe

3 keepers, 7 defenders, 8/9 midfielders and 4/5 forwards. Would mean that Shelvey, Sterling, Delph and one of Jones or Cahill would miss out which admittedly is unlikely.

they will take Jones as he is versatile even though they have cover for every position and will take sterling and delph instead of the Leicester pair he will take Baines if fit

Defoe I always think has been criminally underrated. If ever we've actually had a goalscorer, he's it.

Getting on a bit now, mind!
