Chris Birchill, David Smith after a few months, Nick Pickering no pace and very limited.

To be fair to Pickering he was never a winger more an old fashioned left midfielder. I agree he was slow, but I will always be grateful to him for scoring some very important goals that kept us up in 85-86 season, setting us up nicely for what came the following year.

I always thought he would have been better at full back than the totally useless Downs

Roger Van Goole and Julian Gray.

Winger or not Gavin Strachan was Shiite!

Leigh Jenkinson & Julian Gray were both consistently awful. I don't remember either of them having even a half-way decent game for us.

Does Neil Wood count as a winger? Does he count as a footballer?

When we actually HAD wingers, they were for the most part great - Bennett, Froggatt, D.Smith spring to mind. However since I've been following The City ('86 onwards) there were a host of players playing out of position wide. I still have ghastly thoughts about in no particular order: Sean Flynn, Eoin Jess, Michael Mcindoe, David Bell, James Scrowcroft

Used to love Sean Flynn, proper 100% effort player and scored a brace against Leicester.

Jess was one of those players with an immense amount of skill, probably out of this world in training, but couldn't put it in to practice on match day.

LW: Leigh Jenkinson
RW: Ray Woods

Woods had an appearance clause in his contract and the club refused to play him.

He and Jenkinson cost £600,000 between them.

Michael McIndoe and Keith O'Neill immediately jump out at me. Possibly more at the same standard of shiteness.
