So why did said Councillors sell their clubs stadium to a London franchise? SISU won't be around forever. CCFC will be. The Ricoh was part of a regeneration plan not just for the benefit of the club. SISU couldn't be arsed to buy a share? They offered 2m for the Higgs share? Admittedly as a charitable gesture, cue outrage at kids being ripped off. They also then offered 2.77m, the same amount Wasps offered. So two attempts at buying a share. Out of curiosity how much did the council pay for their share? Now considering they were judge, jury and executioner when contributing nothing. Higgs in a round about way paid 6.5m, yet were caught in a dispute instigated by the council and SISU. They had no say but to go along with the council even though the council hadn't paid for their share! Bit much that. Arsenal sold Fabregas, Van Persie. United sold Ronaldo. Hell at one point Barca sold Figo to Real Madrid. It's football, it happens. Can't use that to bash SISU I'm araid. The owners have behaved in an unethical way, no one denies that. So have the council though. You know the people we elect to represent us, who we should expect more from. How many fans disagreed with their ambition of getting to the Premiership when they took over and were shouting buy the stadium? The council are just as bad as SISU. It's bewildering that people expect no more from elected representatives than they do a hedge fund

The council are answerable to the 330,000 people of Coventry not the 33,000 potential followers of CCFC.
Sometimes you need to look at the bigger picture.

People do. Our elected reps. have an obligation to serve the WHOLE community, not just one business albeit an important one.

Meanwhile, our owners have an undertaking to run one business and consistently shown that they're clueless.

You do what you are.

Competitive championship team
Investment in academy
Fan engagement community work

Why would a football club not feel they can do that and why would they not want to do that.

If there is an issue whether this was achieved or not a three person independent panel make a decision. Either way.

The negative responses are all born out of an entrenched hatred by some to anything council.

At that time the council half owned the product the club wanted to buy.
The two could not negotiate or it seems trust each other.
This would have forced the council to honour any sale. It would have also forced the owners to run the club responsibly
Win win.

When people start talking about child slavery and star bucks taxes as the reasons why this wouldn't work. You know you have a valid point.

How many Coventarians wanted Wasps to have the stadium? Not many wanted SISU to have it, granted. A vast majority wanted CCFC to have it though. So have they served the people and the City? Not a chance. They, like you are blinded by a hatred of SISU. Ironically they and you don't see the bigger picture yet you keep telling people too. The football and rugby clubs of this city have been dealt a massive injustice by the council and people like you. How many people lined the streets when CCFC won the FA cup? How many of them still live in the city and want the club to reclaim those sort of moments. Finally how many will line the streets if Wasps win anything? I mean locals not those from London or wherever they used to call home. I imagine you wouldn't attend any parade though. Not within walking distance

The very emotional tenor of your post betrays a deep seated love of your city. These are the very things that the owners of our football club should have tapped into. We both know they have done anything but.

If asked now I would say that most would say the best in this situation is to share it.
At the moment Wasps don't need us and at the moment CCFC can't afford it by themselves.
So it suits all parties. IMHO

Get promoted, give it a couple of years and I can see the rise of CCFC force the situation.

Blue Sky Vision : Wasps will stabilise short of their goal and CCFC will be messing around at the top of the Championship.
Wasps will capitalise on CCFC PL potential and agree on a shared ownership that will maximise both teams financial situations.

I can not help wondering if the club had adopted its current financial stance back in 2008, shown the same attitude to living within means and not racked up £53m + in debts, had a plan to run as a viable business, whether they could have got their hands on the Ricoh by 2010 or 2011. Yes there would have been hard times on and off the pitch. From a purely financial point of view how do you have faith in a business that has racked up 90m in losses since 1991, nearly gone bust several times, shows no willingness to change, let alone hand over the keys to the stadium to it. How much could the stadium have made being run commercially from the start. From a community point of view would the fan base have been united not divided by adversity, would the club be held in higher esteem by the wider Coventry populace, how much more successful could the Cityhave seemed............... there could have been a very different outcome and far fewer villains

Do not read that as blaming the club for everything, it isn't. But the Arena project was based on CCFC to drive it forward and the financial base of that was delinquent at best and calamitous as a matter of course, until the last 12 months or so when the ship has decided not to be a submarine diving to the bottom

moment of depression over :)

Couldn't agree more OSB. As people have mentioned in the past about doing what Leicester did before you got deducted points in hindsight would not have been that bad. If they had thought long term and sorted the club from top to bottom including stadium ownership etc. We would probably have made losses short term still but with FFP coming into play in a sense we would of been ahead of our time. If we could have had the lease extended and income rights from 2008, you would hope by now they would have built a reputable business that can assist with the clubs budget. Providing the community facility for local people and in turn the same people providing their loyalty. It's all with the benefit of hindsight but thinking what could have been will always drive me mad

But it's way too big for this or a lower level,.
It seems that is where the owners see us.

I agree with you completely, in fact I'd go further to say that the stance should have been the only stance. Yes, we enjoyed signing Robbie Keane etc, but the ultimate cost has been massive. If we'd got to the position of owning a new 30k stadium and being solvent, we really could've moved up a level. We didn't and the rest is history. SISU were reckless for their first 4 years.

Do you believe any of that twaddle?

Robbie Keane bought with debt, sold to pay off debt. No net gain to the club as they paid his wages for a year. Who knows what returns the football investors who paid for him wanted? Perhaps they got all £13m?

Around about October/November, I made a conscious decision to stop reading these threads and to try and steer clear of all this stuff... A) because the football was fun, and B) because I was starting to lose track.

Obviously I'm now feeling a little pissed with the way the season has panned out and need a focal point for my frustrations. So who's kind enough and has the time to bring me up to date?

It is obviously all down to court cases the season went to pot though. :)

Basically it's far from over whatever the result. If SISU lose I dare say that there's an appeal process through the European courts that they could pursue, if they win they'll be claims to pursue assuming that CCC don't appeal that decision if they have that option and that's before you even start to talk about JR2.

Basically I'd tune in this time next season and things might, just might be concluded. But I wouldn't bank on it. Where there's a lawyer there's a way.
