The way that announcement and others at the time were worded it was like the station was being done because of them.

Haven't read the whole thread, but is it possible to get a JR into the allocation of funding to a station built - up until now - for purposes including event travel to the arena ( an arena which was partly owned by CCC and now has been - in effect - sold to Wasps, who presumably were led to believe the station was to be used on event days )?

A LONG-AWAITED £23million Coventry to Nuneaton rail upgrade which includes the troubled new Ricoh Arena station is two more years behind schedule, the Observer can reveal.

Expanding Coventry Station with a new platform as part of the scheme – billed as crucial for the local economy and flagging city centre – has hit the buffers, and is not now due until summer 2017.

The entire phase 1 – which also included a new station at Bermuda Park, and extended platform at Bedworth station – was expected to be opened by winter 2013/14.

But the Observer has learned that – while work at all other stations had now been completed – there are severe delays to building the new six-carriage platform at Coventry station and the scheme’s track and signal changes at Coventry station and Three Spires junction just south of the Ricoh Arena.

Not really as he hasn't wasted millions of pounds on a station that can't drop fans off at the stadium it was built for. Now that is embarrassing.

Neither has CCC. And it will be of use in a couple of years. I don't get those that make out that it shouldn't have been built knowing that there would be a delay.

we vote for & elect persons to be mp's,
they are supposed to, therefore, do the bidding of the population,
then when approached to solve the problem of a railway station that would be improperly serviced,
they run & hide & refuse to intervene to bang heads together,
lon mid snigger in the corner,
ccc cough & mumble,
ccfc fans fume at this crap,
it would therefore appear that the political people are more concerned to keep their snout in the trough, rather than listen to the people,
bah humbug !!!

I have repeatedly stated this.

The council in an interview admitted electrification is highly unlikely to happen, diesel stock was always the likely only available action and the real prevention is cost and, for sustained use, platform availability.

We can be fairly certain that the 2 games picked will attract bigger crowds than we can expect, with the exception of a playoff game.
So from a business point of view it is a good decision.
