I guess it is harmless tv,fairly easy to understand and translates easily not like a show like minder but it is a load of crap.

Surprised at that. Would be interesting to know how the list of most sold compares to the list of revenue generated. Wonder if a program like that is top of the list as its a cheap time filler?

Patricia Routledge is a very gifted actress, but in the time it was written that part was one of the best comic part written for women, and possibly still is. So the real shame is that such talent was constrained by a formulaic sitcom.
Her best work, that I have seen, was a cameo role as Kitty in a Victoria Wood show and in Alan Bennett's "Talking Heads". Both writers write excellent parts for women.

Mrs Bucket's house was in Heather Road in Binley Woods. Onslo's was in Willenhall. Story goes that the house they used for his had to be tarted up as it wasn't 'believable'!

The Vicar of Dibley wasn't that bad and although I never watched it, Absolutely Fabulous got quite a few plaudits didn't it?

I used to like the Lover Birds, but I was very young at the time, so my recollection might be a bit clouded.

I do like Dads Army...the repeats make comfortable viewing. I much preferred it to Hello Hello... Never found that at all funny. Yes I liked porridge and fools and horses but both were part of their day...they wouldn't seem as funny today I'm sure. Fawlty towers was good but again I don't think any remakes would add anything.
I'm old enough to remember Terry and June...believe me watching paint dry is funnier than that.
And do you remember Love Thy Neighbour...would never be made today. Unfunny and boorish

None me of the above should ever be remade as they were written for the actors involved in some cases and no modern person could replace the Ronnie Barker.

i liked the gaffer with Bill Maynard and the one with Alf garnet but don't think they could remake those;)

An episode of Doctor Who was part filmed in Cov as well - The Shakespeare Code. They used Cheylesmore Manor House (round the back of New Union St) and Fords Hospital (Greyfriars Lane).

Thing is, as Porridge is set in a world that most of us don't understand and it's in a bubble and for that very reason I would say it does stand the test of time. I still find it really funny to this day.

Fawlty Towers has dated, but is still funny. Have to say now that the early episodes of Only Fools look terribly out of date and stereotyped.

Porridge will always stand the test of time though in my opinion.

These figures must tiny in comparison to shows like friends as they have just said on the radio that the cast of friends still get £14 million each oer year in royalties

Just took a look at what the top paid TV stars are on. Now its on Wiki so probably isn't 100% accurate to say the least but some of them are mind-blowing. Dr Phil on $80m, Charlie Sheen was on $50m for Two and a Half Men. Mariah Carey and Britney, $18m and $15 to judge on American Idol and X-Factor.

All 6 of the Friends were on a $1m an episode as are three people in the Big Bang Theory.

Thought her acting was a bit wooden.

And besides, not sure we can all like it, not after all the controversy and consternation that came from the actors on that show. Apparently Gerry Anderson treated them all like puppets.
