Not Bobby Goulds biggest fan but he is spot on with his criticism of our lack of crosses to our forwards, defenders hate crosses, forwards love them. Hate to use them as an example but watch Leicester, okay a higher level but they have sort of mixed the modern way of playing from the back with pace and encompassed the old get the ball forward and wide and sling in crosses and it pays off regularly as it did in the last minute yesterday. We have a six foot four centre forward in Darius Henderson and a nippy pacey partner in Adam Armstrong, let's build our forward play around them this one up top tactic has been sussed by opponents and clearly not working anymore. We won't finish top
six if we don't change tact.

I agree about Tudgay, in his few minutes on the pitch he always creates a lot for Armstrong and tries to bring him into the game.

Agree to a point, why not a twin strike force of Henderson and Tudgay with AA hovvering around here and there to pick up the pieces I think he's ideal for that roll

Been saying this all season, we also don't commit enough players in the box when we do get it wide.

We only really have one winger in Murphy. Cole's never been a winger, yes he would play from the left but it was Ashley Cole that provided the width. Hunts pretty much a write off in my eyes, stupid signing.

Agree, but isn't that the way we set up, wouldn't it be better to have Vincelot in front of the back 4 and Fleck one side and someone else the other pushing up supporting the forwards

The danger with having players in the box is we already massively struggle to defend on the counter

Playing the way we have been(Lack of players in the box) encourages opposition defence to counter. If we load the box, it makes them defend and think twice about countering. ;)

I was always told by managers that, if we have nothing to defend, then attack, and that is precisely what teams are, and have been doing to us.

Has Bobby Gould not realised that when any of our players get into a position to cross the ball, there is nobody in the middle to cross it to, when we get the ball wide we need players getting into the box and getting on the end of any delivery

Well I respect Gould but at times he is a clueless irritant. Our season has been built around playing through from the back. A confident game with pace and a forward line of 'small' people! We have had brilliant success with it and i see no reason why we suddenly need to change to a old fashioned big man little man way and start lumping it in. It can be argued too that byline crosses are the easiest to defend and big lumpy centre halves in league 1 will head them clear all day.

We HAD brilliant success with it!

No back to back wins since November. That says the system is no longer working. Teams have adapted their games to snuff us out. Occasionally of course, it does work, Crewe and Bury, but far too often it simply isn't working at all.

You can't just look back to the period where we were having success, you have to have a look at now and the past 4 months and the trend, which is very much downwards. You simply cannot deny that. Since November we have shown relegation form. We were 11 points clear of 7th place and now suddenly could be out of the top 6 by Tuesdays night.

That tells you the system isn't working. If it was working we would have a much better return that what we have in front of us.

And even then our success was mainly down to playing on the counter, stealing the ball high up and using Kent and Murphy very wide to carry the ball. As frustrating as Kent was, since he's gone we now longer have width, and no one really to carry the ball at pace from deep - Murphy doesn't really do the same job, and now with Maddison back and Cole on the left we've gone narrow again and trying to pass it through the middle and score the perfect goal.

We are indeed trying to go straight through the middle. It's a constant series of one two's. If your opposition knows that is how you are going to play with no plan b it makes it much easier to counter.

How many goals have we scored from crosses this season I wonder?

Talking home games but I can't recall one cross from open play that has resulted in a header yet alone a headed goal
