What a catalogue that band has though considering they were best known for a couple of singles. Really underestimated band for me.
By the public, yep, but not by critics I don't think. Very much admired for their invention and artistry.

No. Packed in gigging back in about 1982 I think. Andy Partridge, the main writer and singer, suffers from stage fright and he walked off stage once in a concert and they never played another gig after that.

Yeah I'd forgotten about that. Maybe stacks of cash might make him a bit less scared? :)

He's already going to hell after writing Dear God, so I don't think he is afraid of much at all to be honest.

'Did you make disease and the diamond blue,
Did you make mankind after we made you!'

'I won't believe in heaven or hell, no saints, no sinners, no devil as well.

No pearly gates, no thorny crown, you're always letting us humans down.

The Wars you bring, the babies you drown.'

Beautiful!

By the way: I propose that CCFC's one and only vegetarian 'firm' should henceforth be known as 'The Cherry Tree Club'
We could wear some nice clobber, crack a few skulls and then go for a nice vegetarian meal. :)

We need to meet up at Dosa Plaza if it proves to be nice!

We can get a pitcher of elderflower presse, roll up some vine leaves and smoke lentils.

If you did kick off and you stuck the head in as you're veggies you could call it a " nut cutlet ! "

How dare you! I may be a veggie who listens to XTC but that doesn't mean I take it up the Gary Glitter! (although I might do and wouldn't apologize for it!) :D

All this talk is making me want to play all the back catalogue.

What's your favourite XTC song then, people!?

Back on topic. Statue of Liberty for me - or the cover of All Along the Watchtower.

I love XTC but no cover could match the original of All Along the Watchtower.

However... I do really like the Metallica cover of Whisky in the Jar. (talking of covers)

Both from the excellent first album.:) All along the Watchtower is just mad, but I love it. I love the way Partridge uses his voice almost like a weapon.

First three albums are terrific.

Do you think? For me Hendrix's version is far superior. Used to debate this very point with a Dylan fan at work.

I stopped buying XTC albums after Black Sea because I thought they'd become rather plain. It's only recently I came to appreciate the later albums.

That was exactly the same for me. They were still really quirky, but had lost that edge I felt.

Will need to revisit stuff I think.

Apple Venus I thought showed once again the greatness they were capable of. I love that album so much, though I feel Moulding's efforts on it trail in Partridge's wake.

The "Cherry Tree Club "
The Infamous " C T C" rooking to the sounds of "X T C"
I've actually just heard that XTC are indeed reforming and the title of their new album will be entitled the Cherry Tree Club.

First single off the album 'We're only making plans for Chickpeas.'

I meant the Hendrix version Trent, I'd forgotten it wasn't his song!

I felt that with Skylarking they had reached a whole new level, come of age. In fact I still see it as their finest work.

(Sorry everyone, can't resist a thread with Veggie food, XTC and threesomes in it! :))
