Not sure if you know and this is NOT a joke but very upsetting for one of our major posters.. Otis Parrot was last night killed by a rat,his wife and daughter are very very upset by this, I would like to appeal to anybody with an ounce of humanity left in them and donate to get Otis and family a new parrot..this is a genuine gesture. This is not charity but to give something back to someone who contributes amusing and deep thought posts at times

I myself donate £10

PS.. Otis I do hope you don't mind me doing this, if you get more donations than you actually need maybe some flowers for your wife or donate to a charity from SBT Forum

Saw one for 1800 in a garden.centre yesterday

Hope it was insured then as we aren't going to make much of a dent in the that unless one our richer fans buys the naming rights. Or maybe we could tempt a parrot from the London area as we have a bit of history there.

Thanks a lot, you lovely bunch of humans. :) Very, very kind gesture, but no need.

My missus is saying the last thing she wants now is another parrot.

Would much rather you put the £10 each towards a new stadium. :)

To be honest there is more chance of you building it. Shall we keep sending you the donations?

I am certainly not a do gooder usually but I must admit I really felt for Otis and his family with them being upset

Can't even imagine what it must be like for something like that to happen to a family pet. Horrible thing to happen.

Really appreciate the concern and the sentiment. Really do. Thanks everyone. :)

It was horrible and just an utterly bizarre thing to happen too. It just all seemed so unreal you couldn't believe it could possibly be true, but it was

My daughter was very upset, but so much more so my missus. She has been distraught ever since and now hasn't slept for over 36 hours. :(

And on a side note, I do believe every day should be a do gooder day shouldn't it?

Wouldn't it just make the world a bit of a nicer place to be?

Anyway, I managed to recover the bird and he was pretty much still intact, so that made me personally feel so much better. It was like the rat took him away from us, but now we had him back and he was ours again.

Being able to bury him in the garden and then kill the rat has given me at least a little sense of closure.

I do think it makes it so much worse when it is a pet that talks to you. Makes it so much more personal and makes the animal seem so much more alive, it you get my meaning. They also live such a long time too. We just believed we were going to have the next 25-30 years with him.

Only had him a year, but taught him loads of stuff. He would say 'cheeky monkey' and 'cheeky chicken' and 'crazy in the coconut' and 'okey dokey' and 'holy schnitzel' and 'hello poopy' and so much more.

He would play peek a boo with you and hide and seek and he would wrestle with you and he would imitate the vacuum cleaner and do the actions too, hoovering the floor and you only had to say the name of someone in the house and he would fly straight to them. He knew all our names too. He was lovely.

Best thing he would do would be to fly upstairs into my daughter's bedroom, land on the the top of her bunk bed and stare out of the window into the garden and say 'where's the birdies?' Don't think he got irony.

Going to miss him so much, cos we got so attached to him and him to us. Guess that's why my wife now doesn't want another parrot. He is irreplaceable in her eyes.

Once again thanks for all the really kind words. It really made me smile and warmed the cockles of my heart. :)

Even better still, it even made my missus smile too. ;)

I had a pet slug that died. Can I get some donations? A tenner from everyone would replace him. ;)

I was in the Philippines and got invited to spend a day on a boat with a family, their friend and son, they wanted nothing in return, it was on an island just off Cebu, when I was travelling back to the mainland with 2 women and son I was talking about my hotel on the beach and realised that they would never enjoy anything like this because they were quite poor, I invited them to come back to my hotel and swim in the pool and I would buy them a meal, it was much much more than any reward just to see the happy looks on their faces, I cannot express how good inside it made me feel for that night, they couldn't thank me enough and the young lad asked if he could call me Uncle Steve...it cost me £30 not a lot to many on here but it made them feel like millionaires and gave me such enormous satisfaction...That is what I would do if I ever won the lottery...don't need any thanks just to see genuine people happy if only for 1 day...BTW Otis if you ever get a parrot or alternative my offer will always stand
