False Promise (3 Viewers)

We've had many young players start their careers at City and gone on to bigger things. Some even used the club as a stepping stone to stardom. But some aren't so lucky. Those who are touted as the next Alan Shearer or David Beckham end up in non league within a few years. So for this week's Cooks Question, i want you to tell me your examples of highly rated young CCFC talent who didn't live up to the hype. The best answers will be read out on this week's episode of Sports Lounge, 10am til 12 noon this Thursday live on 98.6 Hillz FM. You can also catch the show on demand from Thursday afternoon through my Mixcloud page (mixcloud.com/liamcook)

Took the words out of my mouth. Was at Upton Park to see his full debut and in the first 5 mins he took a long ball clearance down dead, turned Bilic and Dicks inside out and shot just wide from outside the box. Very impressive...alas, downhill from then.

Tony Sheridan, Paul Shepstone, M. Stephenson and Nil Lampty all very technically gifted players that never reached potential in pro game. Lee Hurst without injury was on the way to having a really good career.

Callum wilson scored 5 in 7 at the start of this season and has been injured for months and is due a return soon, he's still a fantastic player

Of all the bad things to say Grendel, he did win an fa cup but could have done much more in the game

I was a big fan of his. Never really understood why it went wrong. He scored for fun for us in an awful team and single handedly kept us in the league for two years but after his big move it all went downhill.

He was great for us but maybe suited to being the big fish in a very small pond. He was my first hero

Trevor Gould (younder brother of Bobby). He was the best boy footballer at Caludon Castle when I was there but he came to nothing. During the Jimmy Hill years we had a number of very exciting young prospects (Peachey, Allen) none of whom rose to fame.
Graham Paddon joined us at 18 in 1968 but never lived up to expectation and left after playing just 5 games with one goal. He did have some success with the clubs he joined after us.

Kevin Thornton in recent times.

Convinced he was going to the top and then he fucked it up with a drink driving arrest.

Graham Paddon came into the team at 18/19 and was doing really well when out of the blue Noel Cantwell flogged him for a measly £25k to Norwich, where he was a star and went on to be the same at West Ham
