Our first game in L3 away at Yeovil sold out 2k, away end full.
No roof, glorious sunshine 1-1.
Nothing to shout about really, our gates weren't too much to shout about, neither are theirs.

Coventry population is just over 337k. So only 20k more than Wigan. So NO Grendel, Coventry is not 4x bigger ;)

So what? Then you need to add all the cv postcode towns on our area which extends to Southam and Nuneaton so the population is well in excess of 700,000

You were saying Grendel?.
[h=2]City boundaries[/h] Coventry forms the largest part of the Coventry and Bedworth Urban Area.
The protected West Midlands Green Belt, which surrounds the city on all sides, has prevented the expansion of the city into both the administrative county of Warwickshire and the metropolitan borough of Solihull (the Meriden Gap), and has helped to prevent the coalescence of the city with surrounding towns such as Kenilworth, Nuneaton, Leamington Spa, Warwick, Rugby and Balsall Common.

The town of Wigan has a population of just under 100k but the greater community takes it up to what you see in the chart.

Irrelevant

how many big followings have you
had at the richo....based on just home fans theirs not much difference at all, anyway enjoy your trip to the league leaders!

The average away support at the Ricoh this season has been 853.

The average away support at the DW this season has been 834.

So, basically the same.

The lad was taunting us by asking the away support figures to try and say they had a better home support than us but their stats fall some 5-6k less than us.

No I have not! Wigan has a metropolitan borough of 317k. If you want to be pedantic, Wigan is 16 miles from Manchester and it comes under the "Greater Manchester area.

No you are. The equivalent catchment area of coventry would be a similar boundary reconstruction of 1974 and is 850,000

If you seriously think Wigan has a higher population than coventry you are deranged. The town is not much bigger than Nuneaton and the metropolitan borough includes towns as far away as Stratford Nuneaton Leamington kenilworth and Bedworth are to us.

So you either go on the county size or the town size - either way our catchment in 3-4 times bigger than theirs.

I have and I fail to see the relevance of the 1974 act which created a borough

Coventry as a city has a 3-4 time catchment of Wigan - if you take the borough as a catchment we have the same catchment.

If you really believe other wise it's ridiculous.

It's like saying a town with a football club in the borough of Wigan - let's say Leigh FC have the same amount of support potential as coventry as their borough has 300,000 inhabitants.

Lol

Why are you including towns not in Wigan but arguing any town outside coventry as a city is not part of the catchment area?

So does a town like Leigh have the same catchment as coventry as it's in the borough of Wigan?

Are you saying Wigan is 70% the size of Manchester?

Grendel

Well-Known Member
So what you are basically saying is the 1974 act and where the population sits in that act is the captive market for a football club?

So as Warwickshire is defined as such Warwick fc have a bigger catchment than CCFC

Is they what you are saying!

Come back when you have the population data for the town of Wigan.

For your data:

The Metropolitan Borough of Wigan is a metropolitan borough of Greater Manchester, in North West England. It is named after its largest component town and former county borough, Wigan and includes the towns and villages of Leigh, part of Ashton-in-Makerfield, Ince-in-Makerfield, Hindley, Orrell, Standish, Atherton, Tyldesley, Golborne, Lowton, Billinge, Astley, Haigh and Aspull.

Who gives a fuck about the population of Wigan?

I made a point that arguing we have more fans is a bit foolish given our much larger fan base.

SBK then made some laughable attempt to prove me wrong which ended with yet another ostrich egg on his head - that's two this week.

That's it really.

Wigan will come straight back down next season, Caldwell is a poor manager who has been masked by having a massive budget due to still having premier league parachutes. Once the parachute payments dry up and with attendances in decline I expect Wigan to drop over the next 10 years to their natural position of league 2 or below.

Never really associate Wigan with football rather that inferior rugby code where 13 thick Yorkshiremen walk in a line and frequently fall over as they advance in tedious progress down a muddy pitch.

attendances declineing ??? hardly amount of fans from other clubs saying we would be getting 5 6k this season....laughable.. and to the idiot who thinks cov average 5 to 6k more home fans than us that would mean you get 15k home fans hahaha have a day off

You've passed 10K (just) on 2 occasions all season both local derbys. We were getting 17K when we were in the top 4. You can bore off aswell with the council politicians arguing about populations
