I'm guessing this Wigan fan is probably between the ages 15-21, he has probably never known Wigan as a club before Whelan bankrolled there rise to the premier league and thus thinks they are a massive club. Enjoy it whilst you can as you've got the next 40 years of traveling to Halifax and Southport.
And Coventry.

Remember a game against them in 2005, a night game we were in the bottom 3 they were top, we lost 2-1 but it wasn't that close. The teams including the transfer fees. Seems like it was money well spent, Jewel had been in the role for 4 seasons to achieve 2 promotions. 4 years after relegation there is only 1 significant transfer fee and Trevor Benjamin playing for Cov

Seem to remember the same thing being said of Blackburn when Jack Walker
passed on, but they have just found there natural level again.

Have we found our natural level then?

No I think the goings on at our club have been anything but natural.
I just meant when J W died / left there was alot of talk about things
he had done/put in place to safeguard and ensure a prosperous future
for his beloved club. However in reality they could not sustain a
premier league future with there fan base, without his cash.
Mind you if you can reach the Premier league today with all the
money sloshing about you no longer need a big fan base to stay there.

Please explain?

A club that has spent 8 of the last 11 years in The Premier League, won an FA Cup, gets better attendances in relation to town population and sport tradition has to be viewed as one of the biggest clubs in the league, no?

Yes I see us and Sheffield United as bigger clubs only due to Premier Legaue history and nothing else. Why are Bradford, Millwall and Barnsley bigger?

Must admit you had a good run in the Premier league (13 seasons)... When you've spent another 21 years up there, come back and brag about it ;)

I have officially heard it all now, Wigan bigger than Coventry, err no never have been never will be.

Bolton are a bigger club than you, Wigan is a dive and Rugby is the number 1 sport.

Now run a long before you get detention.

Giving them too much credit there SBK...2005 - 2013 was there one (and probably only) run in the top flight.....

...that said....they've still got a far better chance of making it back there than we ever have though.....

You see Sheffield United only bigger due to PL history and nothing else? Ffs.

Wigan averaged 1700 in 1995, that is why Barnsley, Millwall and Bradford are bigger.

Anyone remember Wigan taking a massive 93 to Spurs away in the PL?

Yes that's right a MASSIVE 93 following for a 3pm Saturday kick off.

Dont care if was bottom of the league that ladies and gentleman is truly piss poor.

We took thousands to Southampton away when down the bottom knowing we be relegated in the championship.

Enough said.

How do you define a big club then?

I take top flight history, trophies and fanbase into consideration. That's why Sheff Utd, Coventry, Wigan and Bradford are the four biggest clubs in League 1 in that order.

On second thoughts I'll give you Bradford but Millwall and Barnsley? Really?
