In 40 odd years I have never had any trouble with any, including when out in town, at the football, being stopped in my car etc.
When we won 2-1 at Spurs all those years ago to stay in the premier league, I was standing on my seat and fell off it whilst a little worse for wear straight onto a Met officer knocking him over. Him and his mate couldnt stop laughing, helped me to my feet and we had a joke about it, he wasnt angry or upset, he just thought it was funny, as did his colleagues.

I am not saying that some Police arent tools, like any job you will always get some, but not all.

Who said all? Who even said that there is quite a few?

I have respect for the job they do. Most do it for the right reasons. But some people try to deny that there are some that shouldn't be doing the job.

Exactly this. One of my best mates is a copper, now retired, and I still play footy with a whole bunch of them on a regular basis. They are regular, decent human beings obliged to deal with some of the worst situations (and people) you can imagine. None of them are perfect, and there are definitely people in the force who belong on the other side of the bars (seemingly like the officer assaulting a man already in custody, here) and a few others who see it as a personal power trip.

However the majority of the ones I've met are exactly the kind of people you want doing the role. It's the actions of another officer here that ended up bringing all this to light, so don't tar them all with the same brush. That's as bad as those that assume all footy fans are brainless hooligans....

good and bad , but the balance is totally leaning very much in favour of the bad , hats of to pc x ,but this thug should be locked up and all those who coverd up, out of a job. when I left school in 1980 you could not get in the forces ,police or fire or ambulance service with a criminal record ,nowadays the ones in litteraly get away with murder

Were the Police that day were acting on the instruction of the club or ACL regarding banners. Would the police have acted the sameway had it been a WASPS rugby fan. Whilst I recognise that football still attracts a minority of troublemakes compared to rugby, that I was in the stand about 2 blocks away and that was not a highly charged armospher there was no risks / threat which warranted a heavy handed approach.

It was an ugly incident that was avoidable.

I think the club stewards probably acting under instruction to allow no banners, police probably just stepped in when it started getting messy and predictably made it worse.

I talked with the chap who was assaulted at the Millwall match and fair play to him for going all out with it.The compo he got was high and surprised me to be honest,didn't think he would get that much. Bet they'll have second thoughts on slapping a fan about now !
