Southampton preparing £3m bid for Lukas Jutkiewicz

SOUTHAMPTON are preparing to swoop for Coventry City’s Lukas Jutkiewicz, the striker who got away from St Mary’s a decade ago.

Although the Saints are five points clear at the head of the Championship table – with a cushion of eight points plus a vastly superior goal difference on third-placed Middlesbrough – manager Nigel Adkins is looking to bolster his squad for the second half of the season.

And one of his prime targets is Jutkiewicz, who was born in Southampton and played in their Academy alongside the likes of Theo Walcott and Gareth Bale until he was 13.

Adkins would ideally like to secure him on loan before Thursday’s deadline with a view to a full-time switch in the New Year.

And although the Sky Blues, severely weakened by the summer exodus from the Ricoh, can ill afford to lose another of their prime assets, they may be tempted by the opportunity to make a substantial profit.

Jutkiewicz cost £300,000 when he arrived from Everton in July last year and is currently rated in the £2-3million bracket, underlining his progress during City’s 4-2 defeat against his home-town club when he added his sixth goal of the season to a typically whole-hearted display.

Although the Sky Blues rebuffed Middlesbrough’s offer for Jutkiewicz earlier this year, chairman Ken Dulieu – recently installed as director of football – could now try to whip up a bidding war.

Jutkiewicz would certainly relish the opportunity to swap the Sky Blues’ relegation battle for a push for the Premier League with the club he supported as a child.

But Coventry’s fans would be furious at any more departures, especially in light of tonight’s match against Cardiff City which sees the return of recent favourites Ben Turner and Aron Gunnarsson.

It says they would ideally like to take him on loan before Thursday before making it a permanent in jan.

We all know what's going to happen - they will agree a deal 5 mins before the loan deadline and we won't have enough time to bring someone.

I certainly don't think we're down anyway, but I would take the money providing that (and here's the crux of the matter) the majority of it could be given to AT to buy three or four or five lower leaguers. We need numbers and to be honest as much as I like Juke he ain't got the fire power to haul us to safety.

It's his home town club who are top of the league. He'd be mad not to go.

Not bothered about Cranie either. Rather have Richard Wood.

You know that the 'a deal worth £3m' means £750k-1m up front with the rest as add on's we'll never see.

Very strong chance because on the back page of the Southampton paper too.

I'd take the 3mill but where would the dough go? Sisu's back pockets.

Time to show your cards SISU. All the rumours about your intentions will either be proven or disproven with what you do.
Sell him and not put the money back in the team shows you have one intention and thats to do a runner as soon as you can recoup some of your money to pay off the numerous directors we now have.

Doesn't matter is it's only a bit up front. If you recall we have already spent against next season's Season Ticket sales!!

We'd be mental to turn down £3m for Jutkiewicz. He has looked poor in recent weeks in my opinion, I thought he was our worst player on the pitch Saturday. Hopefully its just a blip in form/confidence.

I don't get the bad rap Cranie gets from a few fans, easily (alongside Keogh) our best defender. Cranie has a bit of culture on the ball and has improved massively over the last year.

every player has their price - £3m for him is pretty decent. Dont want him to go but I think that £3m would clinch it. I wouldnt loan him first though

Btw All the info I have is we bought him for nearly £1m not £300K!!???

If selling Juke, Cranie and Clingan means that SISU can recoup as much money as they can and can expect too and then they Feck Off then it would be a brilliant deal in the long term as we would be rid of these faceless, uncaring scum. I accept we are down but with new owners, be that Hoffman group or whoever, who are willing to back the team maybe next season in Div 1 would be a good one with us pushing to get back up because if we are saddled with these cnuts all we will get is even more cost cutting, more sales and more stagnation and decline and a long long stay in Div 1 at best and liquidation and oblivion at worst.

You never know boys, this may be good news in disguise. This may be the tipping point for SISU to go assuming they put the 3 million in their pockets that is. I do not know any one on this forum that believes the monthly running costs are as much as they are saying unless their are paying down the original investment. If you work out roughly 4 years at half a mill a month thats 24 big notes, add the 3 mill from the sale of the duke and it may be enough for them to bail. I know their are better finance men than me on the forum but if in fact those numbers were true we have been insolvent for the last 4 years. The other point is if the Duke were sold from under Thorneys nose it may be the last straw for him, you would not blame him for throwing the towel in would you? PUSB

It was undisclosed (of course): I read figures from 300k up to 1m, but I'm pretty certain that the full 1m was after add-ons.

Ultimately, as far as strengthening the side goes, we may as well let him go on a free for all we'll get back of his fee. And I'm amazed that some people see this as a good thing, i.e. SISU cashing in before leaving. What's more likely is that they'll stay until everyone else that they can flog is gone until we are just paying/playing the youth team and not making a loss. They think they'll be able to sell on and make money on their investment then, and only then.

Absolutely!

Bringing in one new player this summer and no loan signings haven't indicated their intentions whatsoever.

Neither did letting our best players go for free when their contracts expired (going back to Tabb at least)

Neither did producing a slight-of-hand move with their 'investment' and 'wiping our debt'

Nor was giving each successive manager less of a budget.

No. It will all be on whether they sell Juke that will determine our views on how well they've ran our club :thinking about:

Yeah, I was thinking something similar..this isn't exactly new, is it? It's not exactly make or break for them, either. They can carry on screwing us hard for as long as they want. We just lie there and take it now, like we're pretending we're somewhere else..

If juke is going to be sold in the next transfer window and any other saleable assett we may get a bid for I don't think we will see anyone, because if sisu are after as much as they can get before they go then they will stick around until the transfer window closes then go if they are planning to go that is.
This will leave any new owner on a real hidding as we will be up shit streak literally, without any real chance of trying to save the season.
We know from the past that sisu will not reinvest the money from any sales (even though I always tried to play devils advocate and give them the benefit of doubt) and will just use it to try and get any losses back that they have, thats what they do make money for their investors who don't give a monkey arse if it's at the sacrifice of a football club in the midlands somewhere.
So all I can see is a big sale of anyone who they can get money for before they go, IF THEY GO which I think they will after the transfer window closes as they will have nothing left to sell only our passion for the club but thats not for sale.

3 mil is a good price and I think we should take it.
Expect Clingan and Crainie to go too in January as they seem unwilling to sign new contracts.

The money will go to secure the finances and I would hope AT get 25-30% to reinforce.

Many still go with the line: 'Sisu will pocket the money' ... why would they?
They will surely use the money to stabilize the finances, but there are no history to back suggestion that they will take the money out of the club.

Is this comment about Jutkiewicz for real? Sell the one player who scores goals - do you think McDonald or O'Donanvan would be adequate replacements. How anyone can be positive defeats me - another nail in the coffin.

Cranie is a good reader of the game and good on the ball, he seems to get bullied by big strikers is not the best aerially and doesn't come across as very vocal. Good defender at this level but only with someone who can command the defence next to him.

As for Juke 3 million up front is an ok price for him but we all know that AT will see none of it and it will be used to keep the club running until the end of the season, it was obvious if the Parkin deal went through Juke was going to be off to Middelsbrough. Parkin is back at Cardiff now so I wonder if we will see Parkin come in and Juke go out before Thursday.

Which I think it a really important point regarding Cranie and Clingan. I'm all for blaming SISU but if players want to leave then they want to leave. That's up to them.

I agree but I don't think you should let your best players get into the last 12 months of there contract before you start talking about renewals.
I know others disagree but you are always playing dangerous game waiting until the last 12 months before renewals start, by this time agents and other clubs have already turned the players head.

Juke's deal has been in the pipeline since transfer deadline day and talks have not really stopped with a few clubs since then, Juke, Wood are defo on the way out .. Also Clingan is not keen to sign with SISU still in control of the club, so unless SISU leave all will be going out the exit door some sooner rather than later.............

If these players don't want to sign then do we want them here?
Ok they maybe some of the better players we have but if they don't want to sign then weather it was at the begining of the year or now then they don't want to play for us in the future as they know we are sinking fast and they can get better contracts, play at a more settled club.
They knew I should imagine what was going on here more than us when players left etc and they were not going to be replaced so I don't think it would have made a differance when contract negotions started to be honest

Yea, we'll get on fine with just the youth team! Honestly, would you want to work for SISU? How de-motivating do you think that must be?!
