Ticket prices - a huge gamble by the financially prudent SISU (6 Viewers)

Droning on about what? My only point is its pointless droning on about sisu needing to throw money at TM, because they arent going to do that.

The reason I posted what I did, is because we already have 2 threads on similar subjects. The OP wants cheap STs and Investment, its very likely we made a loss from reducing the STs last season, that impacts directly on Mowbrays budget. The STs are still one of the cheapest in the league.

We'd all love an owner who will gift the club money, but we don't have one, we have this bunch of c.... There have been plenty of teams that have challenged and been promoted in the 4 years we've been in this league that have a lot less resource than we do. If putting the tickets back up to pre sixfields prices means another £300-400k for TM to spend then its the right decision. This season has shown that if the football is good people will attend.

TM just needs to be more savvy with his scouting and signings next season and we should be challenging again. We weren't far away this season.

I thought TM had the best scouts working for him? Obviously not according to you.

But if a player like Fleck says just a bit more financial backing this season could've been the difference, surely with him being in the position he is at the club, he's qualified to say that. In which case, surely just a bit more investment in the right areas would pay dividends for our owners. Most sensible posters on here aren't asking for the millions and millions or free season tickets you mention, but we had a great chance for promotion this season and if someone like Fleck (who I'm sure knows more than anybody on this forum) say's just a bit more financial commitment may have been the difference.

The alternative of continued financial prudence from our owners is going to keep us firmly rooted in this league. Also, we are not going to pick up an Armstrong every season and take his goals out of CCFC and our league position could've been very different.

What was Wigan's budget?
They still have parachute payments (turnover £28m last season), and las season their wage bill was £26m (£30m season before that), so you would imagine this season at the lowest it would have been at least half that if not more.

Would totally agree with the highlighted sentence up to November 24th... After that relegation form.

TM and Venus have had to set up the scouting system from scratch, he's even said its not fully embedded and will take a couple of years to come to fruition.

So are you saying that Wigan throwing all that money at this season has brought them success and promotion?

If you must twist my arm for a figure, then somewhere in the region of 500k-750k should bring in some good players to see us cross the finishing line safely.
There you all go! another post to get your teeth into :)

Wigan still have parachute payments, their turnover even dropping out the championship will still be over £20m, ours is about £5m. After saying no one expects us to throw millions are you now suggesting we throw millions and match Wigan?

More back and forth, we need owners to invest. Another million quid and we could of won this league and then you get the benefits of championship income and increased gates.

This is a piss poor league and we are lucky in fairness to sisu have a fantastic manager best in the league in my opinion. Back him with money and investment doesn't seem a massive gamble to me.

Genuine question... If our budget was 6th to 8th in this league where did the higher budget teams finish? excluding the obvious Wigan budget.

No problem with cash neutral stance as "investing" in a football club looks like a sure way to lose your money. My gripe with Sisu is their lack of honesty (new ground for example) and their lack of transparency and communication of what is really going on. The whole Northampton debacle which ripped the heart from the club and from which we are still suffering. Add to this the lack of any real substantial plan forward either on or off the pitch you have a state of stagnation. We have no stadium with no long term plan in place, we have an academy whose deal runs out next year, nothing in place. All of the talk is about the need to own a stadium to generate money. Very little seems to be done to look at ways of generating money in our current situation, lots of ideas for that from people on here for raising money now without a stadium.
At least we have a shop now but very small and along with programmes, outsourced which I presume means less risk of loss but reduced profits also. Everything has a feel of "small time" about it. The really crap way of selling tickets for the past two seasons for example. The match day experience can feel really flat compared to other clubs (Sheffield Utd for example). Some of this can't be helped, with yellow and black increasingly prominent in the stadium, with the feeling we are very much the tenants in what should be our own ground. The atmosphere was much improved last year. However, the cynic in me feels that Waggot's motivation wasn't to improve atmosphere but to save money on the rent by closing the stand behind the goal. I think a far better idea to improve the atmosphere and the look and the feel of the stadium would be to open up both end stands to home fans (could still have half a block segregation Tesco end) and to have the top half of the stadium closed until we can fill it. (Go down the steps when you enter the stadium bowl rather than go up). The whole feel I get with Sisu is if we're not losing (much) money, the club can stagnate until the final court case finishes.
I hate the fact that a franchise has blown in and I hope they go bust and clear off sooner rather than later. But why have they been so proactive in trying to get bums on seats and we haven't? Why have they got their flags all over the traffic island outside the Ricoh and we haven't? Surely the club could challenge the council on that?
i think there is more hope on the pitch thanks to TM who seems, at least from the outside, to have put things on a more professional basis. I would also hope that Chris Anderson does have the best interests of the club at heart and will make decisions in the future that reflect our needs, not Sisu's, as far as he is allowed. A real test for him is showing that money from player sales is given back to TM. If the club is meant to be self sustaining then extra cash gained in this way should not be needed to simply keep the club afloat. I would have thought that some of the JM money did go to finance the Jodie Jones deal.
shame about ticket prices as I think following the lead of Huddersfield, Wigan and Bradford it would have been a boost and given a real feel good factor to the close season as well as helping the team on the pitch if ST were discounted in the way they were at those clubs. The money back thresholds are so high given our lack of success to be almost meaningless. However, if we have a good season, I think price increases will be quickly forgotten.
If Sisu want to be taken seriously they do need to show they care, not through shed loads of money for players but by truly buying into the infrastructure of the club, working with what we have and where we are now. An ideas man or woman in the mold of JH would be great, to keep us in the limelight media wise and also to generate that much needed cash, most of which would come through getting people to believe again and to enjoy coming to the games and returning regularly.

So would it be fair to say that the teams with the higher budgets finished above CCFC?
It's hard to say without knowing the exact teams, as teams with lower budgets will have also finished above us. Sheff utd, posh and maybe Oldham are below us

You'd imagine Sheffield United are the second highest budget, maybe Bradford but the cheap season tickets brings limited revenue.

I would imagine it goes something like this....
Wigan
Burton
Millwall
Bradford
Walsall
P'borough
Sheff Utd
CCFC............... I would also think Blackpool would be way down at the bottom of that list.
I don't know for sure just the same as every other wannabe Statto. but think it might be somewhere near ;)

I doubt Burton or walsalls wage bills are bigger than ours, walsalls owner runs a tight ship.

Do our owners not run a tight ship then?

As we played 5 loanees all season I would think that at least those will only be paid a fraction by CCFC.
I know other teams also have loanees but it is down to who does the better deals.
This would make it pretty hard to work out wages of players without knowing the deals in place for each one, and as we have got rid of most of our high earners I believe ours would be quite low.
Another thought as we do not own the ground our club staff bill will proberly be the least in the league as we have so few.

They haven't thrown any investment at it? They've been given a chunk of money to spend.

I know it was parachute payments, point is they had money and they spent it. Sisu, Arvo, Greedy wankers or whatever name our owners like to go by get money given to them to spend. I'm not asking for millions like 'Stupid' says but if a senior player on the inside says just a bit more backing probably would've seen us over the line, that pisses me off when our 'owners' have a massive pot to draw from.

I pulled you for something stupid you said, where in my posts did I say we should spend what Wigan have? You were the one talking about Wigan and all their money. If you want to re-read my posts just to make things clear for yourself, I've said just a bit more investment, you know, like what a senior player at the club has said.

If Conor Thomas is on such a high reported salary it does distort our budget, whilst it is clearly a cost that needs to be included, it is a deadwood cost from the championship and possibly teams like Barnsley have a few in their squad as well.

Could be a SISU bluff, we may be spending big but not giving the impresssion to the selling clubs that we have big cash so they don't inflate their prices. A hope rather than a genuine belief.
