looks like thats the key that lost us the play offs

home losses and draws to
colchester 3pts
blackpool 2pts
doncaster 2pts
fleetwood 3pts
oldham 2pts
swindon 2pts
rochdale 3pts

all scrappers, mugging us for points, is the most frustrating aspect of the season for me.
forget about the late draws away to swindon and late loss to bury and thats another 5 pts, plus pathetic home and away showing to a poor scunny , another 6pts

we could have walked it grrrrr.

all of the above below us in the table (bar scunny) so man up is the key, too many lightweights

out of all the games i saw, and possibly did more aways this year than i ever have, walsall were possibly the only team that i can say, were the better team than us, if they'd kept their manager they would have been champions , so as frustrating as we had it , i would be fumming if i was a walsall fan, their real chance was this year, they'll lose the main 4 players in the summer i would imagine, they gotta pray for the play offs

Could easily point out that poor calls by refs and linesman have cost us the 6 points we would have needed to make it Sheff utd the red card that wasn't and the goal they said didn't cross the line, arma had a couple of goals given off side them at were not can't remember who it was against but Andy rose had a good goal chalked off in a game we then drew. It's all a game of what if at this stage

I'd be willing to bet that they're all big physical sides for the main part. I'd also go with SITE in that the refereeing in this league is shit and getting worse from what I can tell and that didn't help us when our younger smaller squad were getting bullied. In more than one game I saw the ref seemed to ignore it and this only encouraged it ti get worse as the opposition just kept pushing and pushing the boundaries.

To be fair, we did better against the physical sides, Bradford, Millwall.

Whilst I accept the run from December to March was unacceptable and the results highlighted point to what might have been, created disappointment

were there any gamers where we got the points and really shouldn't have?

Surely every team in the division could point to injuries, bad referee decisions, games they should have won.

I am taking this season as a building exercise where some decent foundations have been established as to how the football side operates and a start made on securing our own players going forward not loanees (or so many). We haven't finished 8th or above very often. Hopefully we use that to push on

i dont care for refs decisions , penalties, offsides, the point of the thread was we were guttless and out scrapped by teams, at home, that clearly we should have beaten

If we were a not physically equipped to scrap as you want (and we had few players that were) and mentally lacked strength compared to other teams then there should be no surprise we failed to beat more physical sides filled with seasoned professionals at L1 not young boys. So it was not clear we should have beaten other sides it is just a fans expectation based on previous history and view of size of our club compared to others. Reputation counts for nothing

You would say Sheffield United were a team of scrappers, finished above them

Fucking nonsense, inability to arrest a slump which began in December and continued to March, that despite signing 6 new players, the facts stare you on the face. Finishing eighth is mid table to me behind sixth placed Barnsley who at xmas were 22 points behind us !!

Brilliant analysis. Have you ignored the first 3 months of the season deliberately?

Would you be happier if the season went in reverse order, i.e. win 4 of the first 5, then a long slump followed by a great run to finish just outside the play offs? I bet you would.

Do you know anything about football ? For a start a season is 9 months long not 3. and that's the issue, yes the first 3/4 months were good, even exciting from what we had been served up in recent seasons and there's usually always wobbles in a season and it's management job to sort it, it wasn't, they didn't seem able too despite bringing in 7 new players, 4 of them have hardly played. Don't tell me that's acceptable.

Doncaster hit the bar against us at home last minute. Blackpool missed a 1 on 1. You're right about Walsall though. Home and away, theyre the best team i've seen this season

Exactly, you selected a 3 month period you silly billy. Over the whole season we've finished 8th, probably as good as we'd have expected last August.

You fail to grasp the truth, yes I accept eighth is better than it has been for s few seasons, but going from top all be it briefly to mid table in 4 months is frankly a disgrace. Truth is we never really competed for a play off spot, we had a lead of points which were whittled away slowly but surely in front of our eyes and let's be honest were more or less out of a top 6 challenge since early March, and that's taking into account 7 new players on the books.

Could have been worse ....... werent Notts County in the top six last season come November/December and this season played in L2?

Frustrating, made worse by winning 4 of last 5 but over the season a step forward that has to be built upon by CCFC

Enjoyed our football this season
two wins off the play offs.
Be dissapointed if the only way to get those two wins would be play shit huff ball.
TM with another summer to sign more of his types of players I am hoping will get us those extra two wins and do it in style that entertains and makes people enjoy the match as well as the win. Not that strange feeling when you have watched a really drab affair but feel good because you scraped a 1-0.
i want both to really enjoy the skill and flair but also the win

I have to agree with this, people say look at the whole season not just the beginning. Yet they are only looking at the mid to last third.
the whole season we finished with us two wins off the top 6,
last season we were one defeat off relegation
TM has had one summer an one January.
A large chunk of his budget will be tied into players he hasn't chosen.

I am confident

Out of them games, 12 points lost conceding goals in the last 10 minutes

The fact that the season is seen as a success by most is exactly why the owners don t need to chuck more money at the situation. They would be mad to invest further when the fans are happy as they are

Because responsiveness to fans is something they're famous for.....have a day off.

and there's my point
Scrapping doesn't mean thuggery like Sheffield , it's mental strength and management.
Ultimately it comes down to tm as he has a track record of slumps . I think he needs to look at himself and change the record sooner rather than later.

If we had stuck away every penalty, we would probably have made the play-offs. Need a penalty-specialist next year. Wish we could get David McGoldrick back.
