Bands you loved but had sort of forgotten about ... (3 Viewers)

and you have now found you love all over again.

I'm sure we've all got albums we have loved tucked away somewhere and not played for years. Have you revisited any of these artists recently or long after their album's original releases and then suddenly remembered just how brilliant they truly were?

I think we can all say I love such and such a band, but sometimes only when you play their stuff do realise their degree of brilliance or just how much they mean to you.

Have a trip up to the Lake District and back on Monday, so decided to stick a load of new songs on my SD card for the car stereo to listen to on the long journey there and back. It is an 8 hour round trip.

Anyway, always loved XTC, but on playing some of their stuff again I had forgotten just how brilliant they could truly be.

So stuck a load of XTC tracks on there and then came across my Ben Folds/Ben Folds Five collection and remembered just how brilliant they could be and I fell in love with them all over again right there and then.

Loved that stuff so much I immediately went out and downloaded some of his/their new stuff. It's really good and without listening back to the old stuff I wouldn't have come across the new stuff that's out there now.

The Bees are another one. Forgot how good they could really be.

It's like a warm fuzzy feeling of remembrance, but with a new freshness.

Others too of note were Soulwax, Depeche Mode and the Super Furry Animals.

So, have you all come across something you have revisited after a number of years and fell in love with it all over again?

Never heard of them. What sort of sound do they have, Daz? Akin to any other band so I have some idea?

Its hard to put them in a bracket Otis, they played some great instrumental stuff I'd say they were influenced by moving hearts and also one of their songs were in my opinion influenced by Dirty old town it's called a requiem for the innocent
They were pretty big on the U.K. Folk and Irish scene early to mid 90s brilliant live
They used to always finish with devil road down to Georgia

Saw Big Country live a couple of times at the Hummingbird club in Brum years ago,and on the radio recently they played King of Emotion by the band and so since then I've been listening to lots of their stuff. Forgot what a great band they were and it was sad that Stuart Adamson died so tragically, as he was the main star of the group.

was listening to Gaz Coombes solo album Matador this morning. Pretty good.
Saw Mansun at the Warwick uni many years ago, surprised they never made it bigger.
Love the Super Furries.
A band I was listening to recently that I'd forgotten about was Lemon Jelly, good for chilling out to.

Listened to Travis debut album the other day for the first time in years. That was quality before they went dreary and mainstream.

Love SFA, Radiohead, mansun too. SFA were quality at the Kasbah 4-5 years a go.

Totally agree with you on Travis. Their first album was really good and had energy and edginess to it. After that they went all twiddly twirly and only made music a great gran would like.

Yeah, Gomez! Got their first two albums too and loved them. Really thought they were going to be massive, but they seemed to just fizzle out after a quick flutter with stardom.

Doves were fantastic too. Must dig their albums out.

I have over 700 CD's so it is going to take me some time to wade through them all.

Have Manics and Garbage albums, so must give them a listen to too. Went off the Manics a bit when they started introducing strings and went a bit mainstream, but there is still a load of good stuff in there to be found.

I was into Gary Numan in the late 70's ealy 80's,Recently discovered His album from late 2013 Splinter.
Probably his best it sounds fantastic,If your into synths and a unique voice i would say give it a listen.

I went to see them at the N.E.C when they were on the Green tour when I was about 14, It was my first proper gig and I have never forgotten it.

So, inspired by this thread I finally set up the system my brother in law gave me this afternoon. Today I have been mostly listening to standing on a beach by the cure and seven singles deep by the icicle works, both cracking compilations

Yes he did, not sure about demos but he lost a fantastic record collection in that fire. His brother Mike, guitarist in the band was/is one of my best friends.
