Season ticket holder so i see this lad every week

At first i thought yeah this kid has the lot but recently my thoughts on this lad have fallen big time.

• He never plays the football forward. He plays safety passes which doesnt help the team advance further up the pitch. Its almost like playing with 10 men sometime because he doesnt actually do anything other than pass the ball sideways or backwards

• Thorn said he can tackle, not in my eyes. He's weak and his actual tackling ALWAYS results with him diving into players and not actually standing up and tackling properly

• When in front of goal, you can see the panic in his body and like many other city players the chance goes begging,

• Him and sammy are far to alike BUT sammy can pass the ball forward at times. Cov need a midfielder who can spot the movement of the strikers and play the ball into space when going forward.

• Gael does have one good point, he very rarely gives the ball away in possession which is excellent but sadly the ball goes side ways or backwards.

With Gardener coming in i would expect to see Gael dropped, purely because Garden is an all round better player in that position.

Feel free to slag me off but tell me why im wrong rather than saying im wrong.

I want Gael to be excellent because he seems a top lad but at the moment, he aint doing enough for me.

I think the whole team is really lacking in confidance at the moment and are proberly scared to death of playing to there strengths in case they mess up.

As a caller said(he knows him) on tuesday, gael needs to be in the CAM role, his ball control is by far the best in the team and I'm sure he can shoot but has pressure due to his age.
Yes he's not strong but he wouldn't be he's only about 5ft9 if that.

There does seem to be a general lack of confidence running throughout the team. Hopefully a decent run would be enough to change things in our favour enabling the definite ability there is in the side to shine through
Just seems that everything appears to be going against us at the moment and under those conditions it is difficult to play with any flair as it tends to inhibit ability.
It is incredible how a small change in fortune can sometimes be the trigger to move forward and I´m sure you´ll all agree that we are certainly due a small dose of luck.
Maybe a new face will be all it needs (without wishing to put pressure on Gardner)

Having a player who keeps it ticking over, plays it simple and doesn't give the ball away is no bad thing. Just we've got Clingan already doing that job.

In recent weeks he's tried to be a bit more adventurous and been less impressive.

Point 1, i think he passes the ball forward about as much as everyone else and as hes learning from the players around him, i cant really critisise him for this!

Point 2, i dont know what games you watch but defensively he is one of our better midfielders when it comes to tackling. He certainly puts in a hell of alot more tackles (and wins them) than Bell, Sheffers, Baker etc. Only one who puts in more challenges id say is Thomas. Sammy puts a fair share in aswell but not always as successful.

Point 3, he doesnt shoot as much as he should, but i dont think this is through panic; alot of our play has to go through Sammy (for some reason), and i think there was an instance on Tuesday when he could have shot but ended up passing to Sammy. I think this is something that has been trained into him (for some unknown reason). Id like to see him have more shots as i think he may have scored a few in the academy?? Might be wrong.

Point 4, him and Sammy are very alike and I dont think they should play together. However more recently, id say Sammy has given away alot more possession away too softly than Bigi. I also believe Bigi is always looking to play the ball into space, but our players are never alert enough to get onto the passes / move into the space.

Id like to see Bigi get a bit more set play action tbh, or even Gardner now he's here. Sammy did once have the ability to create a goal / score a goal from a set piece, but this season, hes looked very off the boil when it comes to set pieces.

Yes he's young and yes hes in at the deep end but all i want to see is ball going forward and not backwards all the time. There has been so many opportunties where he could have played the ball forward but rather than make a mistake he opts for safety. If hes plays the ball forward but gives it away you aint going to get no complaints from me because hes young, its shows hes sees the run or gap but just hasnt nailed his timing down which can be coached.

We have had massive bad luck for sure, last minute goals, deflected goals etc etc but the longer it goes on we're sadly going to miss the chance of playing Villa next season when they get relegated, lol

We could really do with a couple of wins hopefully starting tomorrow maybe a goal off someones arse or something just to change our luck and build some confidance up as I doubt it's not just the fans who are starting to get a bit down now with it all and just wondering themselves when that next wins going to come from.
Maybe with a couple of wins under our belt hopefully some of the players shackles will come off and they will start feeling a lot easier on the ball and try things that they have not dared or tried to do, just hope it's not being coached out of them and the young players at the clubs confidance is not damaged too much.

I think this relates to what i said in my previous post that most of our football seems to have to go through Sammy everytime.

Its almost like we use Sammy as a play maker but unfortunatly when you need goals, its no good having a defensive minded player as a play maker. I do think Sammy tries to get too involved when he doesnt necessarily need to, and is the main cause of our backwards / sideways passing

Agreed, especially on point 4 - can't remember if it was saturday or tuesday but Bigi was playing some through balls more football minded strikers would read. Plays the ball forward more than Sammy who of late has been giving the ball away poorly which is unlike him. yep agree with that but he can find a pass when required. I suppose in many ways Thorn is at fault because there so a like it stops any free following football through the middle. With that said Thorny has his hands tied behind his back and can only play with what hes got. Thorn is without doubt the manager for us even though he seems to make strange sub decisions at times but again that comes down players available i suppose.

We massively rely on Sammy and perhaps over played hence why mistakes have crept into his game. WHU were poor i thought and got lucky that night. Cardiff however were better but i think we matched them. Its good see our young lads putting in good shifts against the more senior players of the division but how long can we keep dropping points due to lack of experience.

I was asked Tuesday night, Would i take relegation but guaranteed a really good season in league 1....i couldnt give an answer. The reason for no answer, we would probably struggle in that division as well

He is a steady young lad IMO who passs the ball around well. As said before the whole team pass sideways and backwards. He offers nothing in front of goal though which is the only dissapointing thing for me, never looks to drive into a scoring position for himself and is more content with passing.

I wouldn't drop him though and think he's solid for us in the position he plays. I expect sheffers to be on the bench with gardner in the diamond tomorrow.

Gael has it all to go to the top and will get better with experience as his decision making, consistency, positional and tactical awareness improves. We are very lucky to have Gael at the club so lets cut him some slack, if he was sold tomorrow we would all be up in uproar at SISU. Lets not question if he is good enough for us when in a few years time he will be too good for us.

No!! I think that bearing in mind he has played as many as a whole 11 games for us and is now several days passed his 18th birthday, this is a perfect time to decide whether he's good enough or not.

Well said. Yes, he did try a fair few against WH, as did Sammy. I took it to be a clear tactical adjustment, and Gael is at least playing more advanced of Sammy, and Sammy is driving on a bit more often than earlier this season. Gael, on Tuesday, just looked knackered from Saturday still-as did Cyrus.

The best pass by us all match on Tuesday was Sammy's lovely lofted ball over the Cardiff players head to the RW. The opposition player was trapped in two minds, went for it too late, and was caught out; it really was inch perfect. And guess what? It went FORWARDS!

In my opinion he going to make an excellent player. At this stage of his career he should playing the odd 20 minutes here and there. I just love the way looks up, chooses the right pass. Get off his back and start to back him, not slag him.
