I think it as been about 4 years now (approx) since we have been talking about building a new stadium.

Only a few weeks ago TF said the Butts is one option but there is still another one outside of Coventry for a fully integrated model.

Do you believe we have the capibility and genuine intent to build this new stadium.

I assume the Butts idea will never get past planning application stage.

If SISU are telling the truth about this surely now is the time to press ahead with these plans. People can hardly complain if they say......

We can't negotiate a long term deal at the Ricoh.
There is a clause stopping us been at the academy long term.
There was an attempt to stop us developing the BPA.

In the past I was one that said its stupid and pointless building a new stadium outside of the City. I felt SISU may have struggled to get genuine support for it.
Now the other parties have set it up for them nicely. So surely if they are genuine, now is the time to show it?

Part of me did wonder if all this furore was agitated by SISU for this purpose.

I don't know, do they want to in their heart of hearts? I doubt it or we'd be a lot further down the road.

Would they do it half cocked on a whim? Probably given previous form.

I've said since day one that if the club genuinely feels the Ricoh isnunsustainable then we should build a new ground, ideally in the city centre. Unfortunately the club have had several chances to prove they're not full of hot air and failed at every one.

Which is why I'm all for pushing them to come up with some substance, and pushing anyone else who can influence it to make it as easy as possible to happen.

Let's do, rather than talk. Let's stop wasting hot air on who's to blame, let's see an opportunity and push it a little closer to reality.

I totally understand and agree with your point Nick. They're not the only ones that mislead, lie or do underhand things. But then the other factions can as they have a "good hand" and even a "trick up their sleeve". SISU have nothing more than 7 high and their trying to bluff their way through.

There is no way on god's green earth* that they will buy a site or put up a mammoth cash outlay to develop or find any type of site!

*But then I'm an atheist, what would I know about god's will?

BPA is viable in that you CAN build it up to 25,000, and they'd still be room for a separate student accommodation building and on site parking for several hundred cars. The site appears deceptively small, but actually is bigger than most realise. I think those of us who remember the old Butts stadium with the cycling track will testify to that, but it is tight yes, but that is a good thing imo. So what are the obstacles? Political? For sure, but any more so than building on green-belt on the edge of town? Is 25,000 not big enough? Perhaps, and then there is the issue of the academy. But tell me, why is it so important to have the stadium and academy on one site? It doesn't happen elsewhere. Crucially, you would actually get bigger crowds at a central site than some bleak and windswept middle of nowhere effort. Anyone who has been to Colchester will know that it is soul-destroying.

The other key fact is that BPA would be driven forward by CRFC and it would be their planning application - that is crucial. It would also be much much cheaper to develop BPA - no (or minimal) land acquisition costs, no new infrastructure to speak of (aside from maybe building on the railway embankment to create new access to Albany Road), but all minimal.

It is by far the more viable proposition imo, and I think we should get fully behind it. I feel we will at least see plans for it, and when we do a lot of people will warm to the idea.

I agree about the academy not necessarily having to be on the same site, in fact, it's so tight, I would just concentrate on getting the stadium in there.

Would be interesting to know if the site could be extended across into what is currently the Butts park, I'd imagine there's fairly strict rules about that type of thing.

However that could throw up an issue between CRFC and SISU. Why would the rugby club want to sacrifice alternative income streams on the site to accommodate a bigger stadium that they don't need?

You don't need it all on one site
BPA is an awesome location.

My only worry is trusting SISU to raise the capacity with demand

15k is not enough to start with and it is a shame to build a new stadium that can't rise to 30k ( we can dream about owners with the means to get us to the premier league)
