So if this is a forced takeover... (7 Viewers)

If I am understanding your logic correctly - it is easier to lay a Sparrow egg than a Goose egg. I suspect you would struggle to convince the Sparrow though.

The Champions' League set up is primarily designed to increase revenues imo...I agree with you about Celtic & the like...the competition doesn't actually reslly start until the quarter finals. The likes Barcelona, Real Madrid & a few others just have potential banana skin matches to contend with up until then.

So I am still not convinced it is easier to qualify for the Prem play-offs &/or a Euro semi-final in Rugby than football.

...onwards & upwards PUSB

Not sure I agree with your analogy, although it was an interesting analogy

The reference to the league set up, was the Rugby Competition set up, and the Celtic teams, related to the Welsh, Scottish and Irish rugby teams such as Scarlets, Connaught, Munster etc.

I was though only referring to Cup comps, not play offs etc, which are a completely different set up. I suspect whichever we may end up agreeing to disagree, and that's fair enough.

We dont need to own our own stadium, but we do need to access all revenues. Without that it will and has put potential owners off buying the club.

A lot of clubs dont own the freehold but have a long lease that means they lease and gain access to all revenues their 365 days per year.

A 23 day per annum rental agreement with limited/no access to revenues will put owners off.

The only other club in our situation, is Stockport county.

But we've been here before.

I think you have missed my point here.

It isn't about who owns the stadium or gets the F&B. We are heading in the direction of being homeless. Wasps won't negotiate until the legals are over. Can anyone see SISU giving up on the legal crap for the benefit of our club? So that could be the end of the Ricoh.

So the Butts next. Plans need to be drawn up. CCC have to pass these plans. SISU would have to pay a lot of money out. Can anyone say with any confidence that it will happen?

Otherwise then we are down to a new stadium outside Coventry.......

So where do we think the ground share will be? And all this while others are too busy blaming SISU for everything and not noticing how bad things have got.

We were moving on and building a new stadium, training ground and academy outside of Coventry.
We said we would not have done the deal Wasps ended up doing for ACL.
So the council managed to get a sports team into a stadium that may have been left empty they (morally wrong) have bought an attraction to the city to lesson the economical and commercial blow of the loss of CCFC.

I see.

Do you think it would have been good business (if we accept that the £6 million sale was good business ) to actually have valued the club based in the community - and allowed them the stadium for free on a rent of around £115,000 a year?

if you are suggesting giving the football club the stadium for free, who would they be paying the rent to?
Or do they just own the stadium but not ACL?
Or did you mean give them ACL for free.
Sorry I don't get your question?

Think he's saying that what they paid is more or less equivalent to£115.000 in rent
over the term of the lease.

I still can't work out why blaming SISU, being against franchise sport, and wanting our club to have its own home have to live separately according to some.

The good thing with all this I suppose is it seems less think it all has to just ATM.

Sisu said they couldn't accept it as it was set up even at Wasps price. If I read that right they wanted it with no debt and unencumbered.
Would it be acceptable to you for them to continue their actions to try and get it with those conditions. Would need to put ACL into administration first.
Are people blind to this fact and wonder why the council and Higgs have their arses in their hands with Sisu ?
I can understand from a CCFC fans point of view why this would give us what we want but you can't have it both ways when the council and Higgs fight back. We should have continued to negotiate and work towards a reasonable offer rather than start the rent strike and then leave.

Are you no longer using Northampton as a good example where councils help out the football club?

I bet there are a hell of a lot more in the HELPFUL column rather than the UNHELPFUL one. We know who'd be in that way anyway.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone so incapable of differentiating fact from fiction.

Makes no sense to me at all TBF

The sense is when you frequently say councils have to do the right thing for all taxpayers - which of course is nonsense anyway.

The statement was drawing comparisons to two other clubs.

Forest is the most significant one. The club took loans to expand the stadium in the mid 90's.

Due to their financial position even then they had to find a guarantor for the loan. Nottingham council did this as they saw a benefit that ground expansion could make the ground attractive to international matches.

By 2004 with nearly £5 million still outstanding forest stopped paying. They didn't even advise the council. The council had to immediately pay a £200,000 interest payment and then paid the loan.

There was talk about the council taking the ground off forest or winding them up.

In the end they didn't. They decided the tax payer money was valid as it ultimately the football club with all it's history and all it's community benefits was worth protecting.

It's believed (though never publicised) a long term arrangement was made to pay the loan back.

The point is that if mutton Lucas and co were in Nottingham no doubt they'd have repossessed the ground, made the club pay an extortionate rent and no revenues and when they went bust found another club from London to take it's place.

Personally Nottingham are a council I would be proud to have. Oh and this decision against the taxpayer made no difference at the ballot box either.

I think most sane people blame all sides don't they?

People need to be informed it is all sides, somebody like the Trust need to come out and say that all parties are screwing us over here.

Grendel those were different times would Nottingham council do the same today would they have the money?
I dough it look we have a few council employees on here not all Coventry ether they know what has been happening in their sector my own wife is a council employee it changes every week as they have less and less money to try and run everything.

BTW I am not saying it was good business because I don't genuinely know, I am just your average Football supporter.

Wrong imo

There's gold in them football hills!!!

Theres only gold if you get to the promised land, you only get to the promised land if your investing £10-15m above your turnover and even then its not guaranteed. Do you think wasos have the money to spend £40-50m on us over 3 years in the hope we do a Bournemouth?

I thought CRFC were all for it? They seemed to be keen enough. Meetings with architects, etc

Look I met an architect even had plans drawn up but never did it. Happens every day they have stated they don't want a 25,000 seater stadium and if what you lot are predicting that Wasps are trying to screw them over then CRFC won't need a stadium themselves.
