To be honest other than the East stand it was a dump below and behind the seats.

The West Stand was dated but the Main Stand had had a new roof and new seating, as had the Sky Blue stand whilst its roof had been improved and strengthened. So apart from the West Stand needing tarting up there wasn't significant investment needed, and certainly not the level of investment needed to build a new stadium.

The West stand was falling down it would have struggled to get a safety certificate if I remember rightly, that was one of the main problems need a new stand they could not afford.

Agreed it but evidently couldn't afford it.
If you are in debt what security do you give in case of default? CCC would have found themselves over a barrel if they did.
Do what other councils have done. CCC purchase HR, club pays an affordable rent. When purchase price has been paid back to CCC ownership passes back to the club.

Replace one stand or buy land and build a new stadium, bankrupting the club.

I suspect the fomer would have been cheaper than the latter.
How much did the east stand cost.
Oh and Fisher said he could buy the land build a state of the art 30000 seater stadium with training facilities for less we are still fucking waiting that would have solved all our problems.
Then they could have told Wasps XXX Higgs and everyone else to do one.

No idea. Think a lot of people were so into a new stadium by that point there wasn't much rational thought put into anything.

In an ideal world the council would have come in with a fresh pair of eyes and realised the whole thing was bonkers and looked for alternatives rather than taking over the Ricoh project.

I would rather they had just rebuilt the West Stand, and couldn't care less what Fisher ever says. We should have stayed put.

Yes agree we should have stayed put, the west end was a old but I Loved it.
But the pitch that came out into the carpark and the sliding roof did sound good.

No because Highfield road was falling down needed millions spent on it that was the problem.

I think the East Stand showed what was possible and I wish we'd have updated rather than moved. Obviously not speaking about every fan, but none of the group I went with or sat with at HR wanted to move to a new stadium. The old guy I used to sit next to called it Richardson's Folly and I think he was spot on. It's ruined this club.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, of course...
