Our club do need to pull their finger out, I haven't been contacted to say why I haven't renewed my season ticket thought they might have noticed by now and even sent me an email. Wasps for all their faults just seem to try harder to get the fans while we sit on our hands waiting for them to come.

I've made points on other threads about how poor we are at this sort of thing. People also need to remember that although SBITC use the CCFC brand, their remit is not to be the marketing department, although their work should have a positive affect on supporter numbers. SBITC do attend events, I've certainly seen them at my son's school.

I do remember the club advertising for marketing and communications officers and was amazed that the salary CCFC were offering was effectively minimum wage. It goes to show how bad we are at even the most basic of stuff that even the club's website still lists Kieran Crowley as Head of Communications - he now works for the FAI.

Over the summer months, there probably isn't a weekend that goes by without there being a kids football tournament or gala day. It wouldn't take much for CCFC to have a presence would it, especially as we're in the close-season? I've said before that the whole JSB programme should be free for kids and every kid of Primary school age in the region should get the chance to sign up.

The difference in marketing terms between acquiring a customer to a brand and acquiring a fan of a football club is that you might, over time, change to another brand. It's rare that football fans do that. What I've found from talking to friends who are Rugby fans is that they'll quite happily go and watch any old shite. If Wasps left the Ricoh tomorrow and Saracens moved in, they'd become Saracens fans overnight. Football doesn't work in the same way and our marketing team are missing a trick by not targeting the youngest fans and getting them hooked.

As I said in a previous post, what happened before is totally irrelevant. We can only deal in the here and now and react to what is happening right now and Wasps are trying to ensnare as many new fans as possible and we should be doing exactly the same.

But you've always said that our supporters will not go to their games anyway and also they pose no threat to us.

Now you seem to be suggesting they have a targeted campaign to take potential supporters of the football club and make them wasps fans.

You've over simplified that Grendel. They are targeting kids (aged 7 and under) who might not yet have found a love for sport of any sort. My love for CCFC comes from the fact my Dad was a season ticket holder and took me when I was 7 for my first game. Some kids don't have sport loving parents so might not have ever paid any attention to sport.

Marketing is a competition for scarce resources (customers). Before Wasps came along, we had a number of sports teams in Coventry, but CCFC usually got the lion's share of the take up without trying too hard. Football is popular, City have played Premier League football etc. Blaze and Cov RFU were probably also happy with the share of what they got from a fan perspective and they probably didn't have to try too hard to get them either. I agree Wasps are targeting fans that could be City fans of the future, but destroy us? No, I don't think so. They're just better at this stuff than us.

Went to Miners Welfare Park Bedworth where i live this afternoon for a walk in there was an event going on called Party in the park.Went a little walk round.plenty of families were there plenty of stalls fun fair ect.A stage and a small ring for games ect .One of the stalls was Wasps where children were having ago at tackling a supposed rugby player. they seemed to be enjoying it.I also noticed plenty of their flags the kids were carrying Those kids will take those flags home and remember what a great time they had.Might even turn them into fans.Sadly no CCFC stand o well another promotion opportunity gone missing no wonder these children are becoming more interested in the oval ball than the round WHERE IS OUR MARKETING DEPARTMENT definely not in Bedworth this afternoon would not have took much a few cones a couple of young players and some office staff taking details of people who might be interested in bringing their children to watch THE SKY BLUES even giving them a voucher to get a discount on tickets.Very little cost but plenty of P R,Let no one on here blame Wasps for our problems look closer to home.

Where have I always said our supporters won't go to their games? I know of City supporters that DO go to their games.

Think I have said that not many would due to many being either in the football camp or the Rugby camp.

I am talking here about kids who just like sport in general and can probably be swayed one way or the other.

I know for a fact of two people who could have gone down the 'Rugby' route but chose football. This is historically, so nowt to do with Wasps or whatever.

Think you are missing the point. A 5 or 6 or 7 year old might never have been to a sports match before. You take that kid to a rugby game then rugby could become their game. You take them to a football match, then they may well be hooked to that.

Same too with cricket or whatever.

I have known people who had absolutely no interest in football at all and I have taken them up the City and some of them have become hooked.

I dare say exactly the same thing could happen with Wasps. A kid who likes sport, given free tickets to Wasps, becomes hooked.

And no, I do not believe Wasps are out to destroy Coventry City. Just think they are trying to get as many new recruits to games as possible.

I stopped the emails by buying a season ticket.
You probably get 3 because you keep changing your user name when you get black balled due to continued abusive emails.

I get e mails as I logged onto their website to get ticket offers which I have shown on here. However I then automatically was assigned to them from two other sources.

So we have to change tactic and get out there and attend everything locally and promote the football club.
No player worth his salt will refuse to give a few hours of their time now and then to work on the stalls. Can you imagine a youngsters face and joy if he scores past RCC or Burge, the latter more likely than the former, and get the outfield players to teach youngster how to kick/pass and shoot, then give them a flag or T shirt and like Otis and ccfcway says you have them hooked for life.
Simple and cheap gifts can make the club hundreds/thousands over the following years.

We are a middle of the road third division football team with a budget to match.

Probably the most embarrassing and pitiful thread I've ever seen on here.

I doubt the club has ever attended an event like this in it's existence. Ask yourselves why wasps are and why a club already in a community for over a century isn't.

That's just moronic, of course they should be out there promoting the club.
In my neck of the woods whenever there is a fate , fair etc Norwich and
Ipswich are all over it, and rightly so.
We go to grand national and international Beatles week in Liverpool every
Year and again the local clubs are always out in force.

When you say , I doubt the club has attended an event like this in its existence.

To suggest our history and standing in the community should mean the club
don't have to demean themselves by doing these sort of things is just very
