I get e mails as I logged onto their website to get ticket offers which I have shown on here. However I then automatically was assigned to them from two other sources.
Yeah right. Of course you did......enjoy the egg chasing did you?

Yep, get all that. Will be hard to compete at their level, but a simple 'beat the goalie ' or 'meet the players ' would cost next to nothing.
I was a fan anyway at the time, but I remember Trevor Gould coming to Potters Green fete way back when and I was so, so happy.

Really made my day, I was chuffed to bits and that was just because he was a real life Coventry City player.

That's just moronic, of course they should be out there promoting the club.
In my neck of the woods whenever there is a fate , fair etc Norwich and
Ipswich are all over it, and rightly so.
We go to grand national and international Beatles week in Liverpool every
Year and again the local clubs are always out in force.

When you say , I doubt the club has attended an event like this in its existence.
Well maybe there's a lesson to be learned here.
To suggest our history and standing in the community should mean the club
don't have to demean themselves by doing these sort of things is just very
Arrogant. I certainly don't think we have anything to be arrogant about, do you.
Grendel is arrogant about everything isn't he? ;)

Where have I said that?

Ah, that's right, I didn't. :)

Well you said minimal cost. Do you know how much an agency company to provide data capture charges?

I wouldn't be arrogant enough to assume I know how a marketing person works in an environment such as a football club without myself having any qualifications in marketing.

I have never even mentioned data capture.

Is this let's all play a game of making excuses what we can't do? ;)

No-one is saying go crazy with it, just try and do as much as we can.

I would much prefer a beat RCC or Addai or Burge than a snazzy stand somewhere.

Simple can be effective.

If we are in completion with Wasps (and many people think we are) then we should be trying all we can.

Out of those 3 I would prefer Burge please, as would fancy my chances. ;)

Who has said they know how a marketing person works?

Can you point me in the direction please.

The marketing department at the football club will be I would guess one individual. I've liaised with many retailers over the years who have similar turnover to CCFC and the department is one person - at best a marketing graduate.

The marketing budget will be very limited. The marketing person will have to look at fixed advertising (usually letters, text and DM) database management and database communication strategy (a difficult task unless the organisation has Kerridge or such like) promotions, events and VM strategy.

Awareness marketing is very challenging and even more so from a limited budget. It would, with respect, be absurd in my view to do any type of event unless you do it professionally, it would be shoddy and it would have negativity to the brand.

Let's look at this even then.

What is it you want to achieve? I assume it's an extension of the database. You have to, therefore, have some form of data capture mechanism. So if it's a young audience you are targeting you would probably offer a reduced JSB subscription if people give their details. You would want a reasonable demographic that fits the audience you are targeting and evaluate the numbers going, you would have to employ professional data capture staff as I can assure you non professional staff are hopelessly inept at this. You could, if it's a big event, offer a prize - free tickets to first game if you supply details.

All events cost and all events have to have financial evaluation to see if the cost and the cost in time justifies it.

Marketing isn't a walk in the park - especially on a small budget - it's complex and everyone who has zero idea of the profession thinks it's the simplest thing to do.

Don't think anyone has said it is simple have they?

You said simple can be effective and you don't need a "snazzy stand" - from my 25 years experience in marketing I would disagree.

From my 1 week of marketing at college, I would agree.

So basically you signed up to the Wasps website so you can provide them with free advertising on a CCFC fans forum.

And you call Italia and others Wasp fan boys. People in glass houses and all that.

Grendel is in full on argument mode today.

Seems to be arguing over something people are not arguing about. :)

It's laughable and of course he has to stick in the compulsory 'I know better than you stuff.'

This is a good thread, not an embarrassing one no matter how differently Grendel would like to dress it up.

Do you need data capture for a player to go into a school and just chat to the kids or take them for a sports session?

Well obviously you do, cos I of course haven't got 25 years of marketing experience.

25 years! That's almost a quarter of a century I believe.

Don't you also need the availability of players? Were they available?

I will ask them. I am I'm a position to ask as I have 25 years of experience watching players. :)

I'm not talking about this one event mentioned in the OP, Moff, just talking generally.

It's good that the club do get out at school fete's and other summer events. Clearly they're not going to get to them all but I would ask how many do they do? Do they get outside of Coventry? Where can you find out where they're going to be and when?

Seems to me that getting out to a captive audience is pretty basic PR and something that the club should be taking full advantage of, especially in the summer months when there's no football on and an abundance of events to target. They could have a separate page on the official website stating where they're going to be and when, maybe they do this already. Can't say I've noticed though. Same for the official facebook page and twitter page.

All pretty basic stuff.

I think they were doing a fundraiser at a school not so long ago with the speedshot thing.

They and sbitc usually put it on social media

As far as know it was People in Action nothing to do with Wasps and Grendel can take the piss if he likes but if Wasps managed to interest just a handfull of kids that handfull are probably lost to CCFC.It is far easier to lose fan than gain them.

So it's nothing to do with the council initiative that makes Rugby the city of Sport then?

That would be useful for them to shout about. They have a website that could easily have a 'what's coming up' section. If they're doing a lot atm, it'd also help shut up the perception that they're not...

Just waiting on some final details then SBITC will be on here also promoting their stuff :)

Whilst that's laudable, it's still not the club. No part of SBITC's remit is to promote CCFC, that's CCFCs job.

The club might put up players to go to SBITC events but it's not and never will be enough to just have that as your community effort.

I've also recently found out that SBITC are based at the Ricoh and pay their own rent.
