Wilson Woodgate and Johnson together should play about 12 games between them so could we add a few more names please.

Mowbray closing on Championship Defender..

Mowbray isn't closing in on anybody,in fact the only players that we will attract are the one's that no else wants, and then they would rather be else where..expect the new season to be even shittier than it normally is
Zzzz

I guess it would be season long or half season, can't see why not if he is a big unit who will stay fit!

Not trying to be over negative, but I have to say I am now getting a little alarmed at the signing situation.

Most people agreed we needed at least 5 permanent signings, plus a good few loans. Two weeks until the season starts and we aren't really any closer to getting those.

I know last season we were last minute, but this year does feel a little worse. Again, don't want to be a panicker, but is anyone else just a little bit concerned?

Not just yet, I probably will be around the start of August if there isn't anything.

I think with the loans, the other teams want to go their business before letting people go.

Valid point.

I think for me though, I'm more concerned about permanent signings. They're the ones that should be coming in first really.

Head says it'll be ok, just can't help being a little twitchy.

I have always been quite calm about the transfer situation until this week. I am getting slightly concerned now. We were told 3 signings were close to signing with McCann and one other this week...

I know the market does not close until the end of August but I feel that the squad we have at the minute is to young to compete in this league.

I strongly believe we need 5 permanent signings and another 3-4 loans. The depth in the squad is very poor.

Can't argue with that TM I'm sure wanted permanent signings at the end of last season etc but I'm sure most of if not all of his main targets have gone elsewhere & whilst focussing on them others have gone elsewhere.

I get the feeling there will be 3/4 loans coming in to bulk up the squad (numbers & probably physicality wise) whilst still in hope that as the season starts a few players that would be quality additions that are probably still without a club but have higher wage demands then have to cut those demands and maybe potentially fall into our budget.

I do hope it's the latter but then the concern is why haven't those players been snapped up & how long will it take for their fitness to get up to scratch?

Correct. All free transfer signings are players nobody else wanted and who don't want to be there and never succeed. You name one player in the history of football who signed on a free and was a success, not a single one exists. You just try.

Gary McAllister joined Liverpool on a free transfer and was a success and highly regarded

Esteban Cambiasso was also instrumental in helping Leicester City retain top flight status in their first season back in the Premier League

Oh, and a striker by the name of Robert Lewandowski

Not really, just need another 2 defenders, I think a young striker will come from a Premiership club, but the deal won't be done till late in the day.

17 days till the season starts, then 5 games in first 2 weeks.

I can see Sheffield United or Charlton signing him.

It's bit of hyped up story based on someone we are interested in but no where near to signing.

I have heard that Mogga has missed out on some of his initial targets. Then again not many managers always do get who they want.

The fact Mowbray has struggled to find a centre half for so long makes me think they should offer Reda something. Even just a short term deal.

If he doesn't find a club or we get adequate Cb's in I'm sure he will be offered something, I can't help but think TM's comments the other week about it being a no goer were probably just to keep any hype down as the fans will get all over the top about signing him like the Baker saga.

He seems to fit the profile we want.....But too many if buts and may he's in the equation.

We need two CB's anyway. We seem as far away as ever from signing them.

Sol Campbell Tottenham to Arsenal. Ruud Gullitt AC Millan to Chelsea. Dennis Law Manchester United to Manchester City.

Peter Beardsley released by Newcastle United and went to Carlisle...later had a lot of success at Liverpool and Newcastle United I believe.

Need to stop saying we should sign Reda on a pay as you play basis, why would an injury prone player ever agree to that deal

Kevin Long's career is somewhat strange, he will be 26 in August, has played 48 games in the last 4 seasons - never held down a regular place at his host club, loaned out regularly and they want to loan him out again, clealrly don't rate him good enough for the PL or the championship, not sure why Burnley are holding on to him.
