Opening Post in a blind fury demanding Thorn be removed, and then in the same breath admit you have no idea as to who to replace him with. I honestly dont see the point of replacing him with anybody yet, there is no investment coming into the club, they have cut their cloth accordingly and it will be a miracle if we stay up with this team under anybody's leadership, so lets get some stability at some level in the club. Allow Carsley to continue learning, allow Rioch further time to mould our academy (which is now producing players) Its the only way in my eyes for the club to survive and prosper.

Thorn, Carsley and Rioch all seem to be singing from the same hymnsheet, Carsley is bridging the gap between the 1st team and youth team, he is in charge for the reserve games and takes training sessions for the academy. However if we go down then we must not sell everybody once again and bring in a new bunch of kids, we need to keep the likes of Bell, Platt, Baker as in that league they will be vital and we will start the season as one of the favourites.

Hardly blind fury, more desperation. The three you mention might well be singing from the same hymn sheet - but what good is that doing? We've won 2 games all season. And let's face it, we are going down and we will sell everybody because that's what we do - and with SISU in charge it's definitely what we'll do. I see no hope at the moment. And a change in management might bring some inspiration. What other club do you think would take Thorn as their manager? SISU are killing our club and unfortunately Thorn is most definitely not the man to stop them....

It has been said before, on this thread and elsewhere, that this 'Thorn to stay / be sacked' debate has zero real relevance. Thorn was promoted from Chief Scout to his first managerial position and given the post for a year (as far as I'm aware). I would be shocked to learn that there are more than one or two managers in this League who are on less money. The only real factor is that SISU would have be willing to pay to sack him and then pay someone else into the job (possibly including compensation to their club). We were shocked to see they had scratched together the cash for a one month loan. Do you think they would generate the funds for this nameless manager that appears to be the solution? I suspect the only option for SISU would be Carsley... do they pay enough attention to the football at Coventry to be even thinking this through? No, money and money alone talks to them. And so this is completely irrelevant... Thorn is here to stay as he is unlikely to walk. Our League position suggests we are going down. Whether he is the man to save us or not is moot... the point is that he is our man, that there are more deserving architects of our downfall, and that any such debate on here is just generally people sounding off at their displeasure in seeing the team they support go down without a whimper (which, if the League ended tomorrow, is exactly our predicament).

I definitely do not subscribe to the 'Thorn out - now' stance, nor any 'he is the best thing at our club' stance (although this doesn't actually appear to be the stance of any on here). He is here, we still try to play a degree of football but remain very disappointed with our lot. I think SISU have dictated this lot, but they are in place - just like Thorn - 'til further notice. This season will probably see the lowest ever League finish in my lifetime. I'm not looking forward to that. But I'll renew my season ticket next year. I'll cheer on any decent play by any player or manager at Coventry. And I won't be advocating any 'sack the manager' response until I am at the end of my tether with the style of play and decisions made. For me, Andy Thorn has still some way to go, relegation notwithstanding. Whether that makes me more defeatest than realistic, I don't know.

I've just thought of another conundram. What if you are a Thorn in / SISU out type of guy.

So a new owner comes in, invests money and sacks Thorn.

Guess you take the fact that SISU have fooked off as being good enough

Macca - as things stand I am in the SISU out / Thorn in camp but if by some miracle SISU do feck off and someone comes in with some serious dosh then would I want AT to go and an experienced manager with a track record to come in. Its not a case of AT is a great manager because he isn't, certainly at the moment but I firstly doubt anyone else could get much more from this group of players in the long term and secondly that SISU will pay off AT's 12 month rolling contract and appoint someone new. AT has made plenty of mistakes, seems to have trouble motivating lazy sods like Sheff and Bell, has taken too long to realise that whilst the diamond is a nice system he doesn't have the players necessary to make it work and some of his subs always seem negative rather than positive during games. Also the fitness levels of the side certainly seem lower than under AB. So I am no Thorn lover but feel this is looking for a scapegoat when the real culprits for our predicament are SISU - would a better manager have done more with this bunch, maybe but doubtful.

Was going to say exactly the same thing. We may go down anyway, but I don't see how anyone can say we will go down anyway. Said yesterday, when Gary Mac was in charge exactly the same thing happened. The players were crap, the team was poor, we were going nowhere and the team had no hope. Look how that one panned out with all those no-hopers in our team.

You are optimistic to imagine SISU are going to 'try' to appease this number of Coventry fans by sacking Thorn and employing someone else. Unless there is an attachment of 'who' should be tried (someone who would ideally be free to employ and would take home something comparable to Thorn in terms of wages, presupposing that SISU pay Thorn out of his relatively meagre contract), is this argument actually valid in any real way..?

Don't know how we are certainly down if we change manager, how does that work, unless your.
A) A claivoyant.
b) Have a time machine and have seen that nothing is going to change with a new manager.
If thats the case were down and will be no further forward than we are now under sisu if we get a new owner because we do not know how the new ownership could pan out.
In 3 - 5 years time we could still be in the crap so what the hell lets keep sisu and all give in.
Roll on league 1 can't wait.

I think it's not that we all dislike Thorn's efforts with what he has been dealt but the last half dozen games there has been a switch to a change of manager now because of the way in which we have continued to perform week in week out that is not getting results.
The manner of defeats suggest we are making mistakes not because we are a shocking team by any stretch of the imagination. It's for this reason and the beleif and perhaps realisation that Thorn is not capable of the job after all.
We can blame coaches but the buck will stop with the manager and he must make his mark on the squad. He can sack the coach but he is going to be held accountable for our results. Those results by anybodies book are now causing great concern as we seem so toothless under his stewardship and make the simplest of errors that end up as goals against.
The inevitable must come and soon or Thorn's optimism actually starts paying off. I do believe he still has the dressing room and the players still believe but sooner or later they will all awake to see the nightmare staring at them. I hope Thorn can pick up some needed wins very quickly as we head into the holidays season fixtures and if not I fear he will be fired to give someone a chance to turn it around.
Odd though isn't it that we have 2 wins in some 19 games and we are optimistic we can win at Pompey? Perhaps if we can put our finger on that we will surely have our answer. Or are we just losing sight of reality until it's too late...
